  • This Camry with 130k miles came in leaking from the back of the engine. There was sign near the top around the valve cover all the way down to the oil pan. The timing belt was soaked in oil as was everything in the timing cover.

    Thanks this video saved me the time of finding the oil leak on my son's 89 Camry. I changed the timing belt, idler pulley, tensioner, and water pump while I was in there. That right side motor mount with 47 pieces was a real pita so I didn't want to have to go in there again. Thanks again. Great video.

    Ive already seen the jafromobile videos, Its interesting to watch him prep and put the coating on, The interesting part was when he sad it takes a really long time for that stuff to gas out. He also did some test with solvents and cleaners to help identify whats gonna kill the coating. He found a lot of stuff that will kill it too.

    Thats a 'Gerotor' type pump if anyone is interested. They work well and have been around for eons... do a Wikipedia search on gerotor for more.

  • @skydivenutta

    The kinetic energy of a liquid coming out of an impeller is harnessed by creating a resistanceto the flow. The first resistance is created by the pump volute (casing) which catches the liquid and slows it down. When the liquid slows down in the pump casing some of the kinetic energy is converted to pressure energy. It is the resistance to the pump's flow that is read on a pressure gauge attached to the discharge line.
    Note!!! A pump does not create pressure, it only creates flow! Pressure is a measurement of the resistance to flow.

      Ok that is like saying the Sun does not cause plants to grow. It just creates heat and light. The heat and light cause the plants to grow. The sun does NOT cause the plants to grow.
      Now back to the pump, if that pump breaks, then there is NO pressure. No pump, no pressure. Maybe the pump was creating the pressure ? It's all semantics anyway.

    For anyone else doing this job, you may have noticed it’s a PITA to get that spaghetti gasket to stay on the block while you install the oil pump cover.
    What I did was liberally apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) the the galley in which the gasket sits, and then i pressed the gasket into place and it stayed long enough for me to install. No issues so far, and IMO cleaner than RTV for future maintenance. Good video though as usual, Brian!

    A comment about string. When I used to work on airplanes,.. The crankcase on many airplane engines is split vertically. The repair manual says the parting face is to be sealed with cotton string and a permatex shellac type sealant. It works!On my Camry, I put a string on the sealing face on the thin area between the oring "stain" and bolt holes, using Gasketcinch to hold the string in place. The o-ring is installed in the block as usual. It seems to work. I would agree with the comments that say they could change the seal every time they change a timing belt.

    Those "GLOVEWORKS" orange (or green) gloves are fantastic! they are hands down (no pun intended) the best gloves I have ever used. They are super strong and I often can use the same pair 3-4 days without tearing them...and they are ribbed for her pleasure lol so when your hands are covered in grease or oil you still have some gripping strength.

  • @topherd1011
    @topherd1011 Před 3 lety +1

    Change your oil.. every 5,000.. no matter what.. and you likely won’t have these issues. On that engine tho.. once you get 150K I would just go ahead and plan on adding the cam, crank, and oil pump seals to your timing belt procedure. But again.. a simple 30$ oil change is going to save you expensive headaches in the future.

    Pressure is created by resistance of a oil gallery or an appliance

      weaver yeah he is, if the output side is under pressure / resistance then it is the high pressure side. It's not hard. Saying that it's high pressure side isn't exactly valid but isn't it lower than the intake side? Making it the high pressure side 🙄

    • @skydivenutta
      @skydivenutta Před 6 lety +2

      As I said there is no pressure created by a pump only flow the is no pressure side no low no high there is only flow created the pressure on both sides of the pump will be equal.
      The circuit is an open type atmospheric pressure system the only pressure that is created is wen the oil flows to a given area the area creates pressure due to the restriction of oil galleries
