Tie Fighter Tuesday! Time to expand our KDR by farming more Y-Wings for the glory of the Empire!
Hope you are all having a fantastic day and I hope you enjoy!
We need more tiny Y-wing seedlings :3
Fun fact: The Y-wings you are engaging with ar newly made. the Clone War variant was larger, and a 2 seater with a Turret. The type running around in the Imperial era (not counting the actual leftovers) are a run of 3 different models of Y-wing design. One is a scout ship, one is a multirole fighter, the last is a heavy Fighter/bomber.
Reminds me of a Panavia Tornado
How many? Hundreds of thousands if not millions, Germans made 34,000 Bf-109s alone.
The Y-wings of the Clone Wars were BTL-B Y-wings. The first run, with complete hull covering and a larger bubble style turret that was manned by a dedicated gunner.
The two main forms of Y-Wings used by the Rebel Alliance were the BTL-A4 (such as those seen in the Battle of Yavin), which were single person attackers, with the ion cannon locked to the front and the BTL-S3 which were a two man craft with a 360-degree turret (often mounting an ion cannon) above the cockpit. Both versions were often used as bombers and heavy attackers. There was also a scout version of the A4 called the 'LongProbe' meant for long range recon and a variant of the S3 retrofitted into a courier shuttle that could carry 5 people.
I can only imagine that the ISB occasionally asks arms manufacturers to stop selling weapons to criminals and rebels, and the managers just start clanging two credits together until the Imperials walk out dejectedly. Like, imagine the US Navy going, "yeah, some cruise missiles fell off a truck and ended up in North Korea, I dunno, happens," and everyone just shrugs.
The Y-Wing is the most ubiquitous star fighter of the rebellion.
3-4 different models were built by the old republic and in the time of the empire, though the empire scrapped all in their possession and relegated all newly built to planetary defence duty.
The rebels stole, bought or saved from scrapyards all they could get their hands on.
I imagine those planetside are gonna have one hell of a light show from all the debris falling into the atmosphere.
That friendly kill came off your collision at 4:06. You can hear radio transmission from your squadmate who took heavy damage off of the hit. You were credited with FF for causing the main damage when they were destroyed.
Quirk of the engine. It's notable that the A.I. can change IFF to hostile if you destroy too many friendlies, but the A.I. will never turn their guns on A.I. no matter how many friendly fire/collisions they cause. It's a check only for players.
This had...interesting consequences back when I used to LAN this with my friends in PvP.
@@atmosdwagon4656 This isn't strictly true. If the AI has a 'Protect' order, then it will vigorously perform this order regardless, so if a friendly AI accidentally shoots the target its protecting, the 'Protect' AI will murder it and it can results in friendlies all attacking each other if they all end up with Protect orders. Its meant I've had to be careful when using this order when I've designed these missions :D
yeah. . . you'll get an example of that in the next video :)
(Mission 1) Today's Menu: "Oops! All Y-Wings."
(Mission 2) Oh hey! Planetary Fighters! One of my favorites from XWA!
seems like Y-Wings are the AK of starfighters millions made and used everywhere
The Y-wing: The T-54/55 of the SW universe.
loving these vids it brings back so many memories of playing this (the original) game.
@21:16 I would imagine billions of Y-wings were made during the Clone Wars, considering the industrial output of an entire galaxy. Plus, all the little planetary governments, militias, PMCs, and pirates that could have been manufacturing them either illegally or under license, and it would be reasonable to assume that I am underselling the number of Y-wings in the galaxy.
The only fighters that I can think of being actually *rare* would be fighters like the A-wing, since they're essentially bespoke fighters made specifically for just a few Rebel cells.
Playing the original CD Collectors version after missions I'd just fly around and enjoy the stirring mission success music. Bom bom bom, bapapa bom bom bom, bom pa-bom, bom pa-bom, badada bommmmm.
Imperial crew chief: He said what? Cool!? Boys, this is why we have the old slogan: It takes a college education to break it, and a high school diploma to fix it. 😉
The planet and her atmo glows :D This is one of the prettiest missions I saw so far!
The final email displays what we cal "Foreshadowing" lol.
Magz is tailgating again. Hopefully the rebel scum won't decide to do a break check.
I think we fixed that pole input lock issue in the most recent XWA Upgrade Patch 5.6.2, should be in the next TFTC Patch.
Fantastic!
Oh come on Magz, you were switching from missiles to guns because you were too close, and when said "Too close"... Just had to add "[...] for missiles, switching to guns!" 😛
I would imagine the Y wing was produced in large numbers since the Venator was a carrier/cruiser this would make them very commonplace. Add to the fact the private sector and other planetary govs probably bought a ton of them or had them manufactured.
Bro you stirred up a hornets nest, lol.
I really need to figure out how to get this game, you not only introduced me to cold waters I’m totally hooked, just don’t know how to do the mods
Buy X-wing alliance (1999 game) on either Steam or GoG. Go to the Discord server linked at the top of the video description, that's the server of the mods developer.
Server has a channel with links and instructions on where to download the mods (there are two, X-Wing alliance upgrade or XWAU and Tie Fighter Total Conversion or TFTC) and video instructions on how to install them.
Follow the instructions and play the game when done, if you run into any issues the Mods and members on the server will be more than happy to sort you out.
The ship you rammed was likely a TIE/in, when it was shot down by the Y-Wings you were credited with an assist due to the damage your ship had caused during the ram.
The clone wars was a galactic scale conflict so I’d imagine there where tens of thousands produced
You see, that's actually my greatest gripe with the Tie-Fighter games.... when playing X-Wing, it's not that far out to suspend your disbelief that a single very highly skilled rebel pilot can accumulate 100's upon 100's of kills and still not make a dent in the Empire's arsenal. But the other way around? I mean if the Rebels took so many casualties as they take in these missions...... they wouldn't exist for much longer, if at all!
I think this is why a large portion of the TF campaign is basically Imps vs Imps, there's only so many Rebels you can conceivably blow up.
If you look over all the missions most of the kills you rack up are Pirates, independent governments, Rogue Imperials or other factions. Actual direct encounters with Rebel forces are not all that common as Angel pointed out. Remember actual rebel ships in game always show up as green, If the target ship is any other colour, it’s not a rebel ship. Part of this is as said because of rebel kill counts but also because Tie Fighter takes place during the events of the movies.
Your first mission takes place directly after the battle of Hoth and the last missions involve you doing some covert work for Vader and the Emperor setting up for the trap at Endor. Too many encounters with the Rebels would run the chance of interfering with movie events.
@@ange1uk makes sense!
I am told there is to be a Twilek holo after another mission or two :D
So, do you miss the Y-wing blowing up and ripping through your tie fighter and insta killing you from the original game? This doesn't appear to happen in this game.
Oh, it can, I just have access to much better control systems than I did back in 1995. 1995 Tie fighter only supported 2 axis on a joystick, you had to press a button to roll while yaw was the default.
In this I have a throttle axis, pitch, roll and yaw along with just in general far higher quality precision controllers so dodging the mess after the kill is much much easier.
Or stealing the protein torpedoes. Plus trading.
IIRC you could change the laser convergence distance in XWA in some craft. x key?
So
Many
Y-Wings
So how close can you get to that planet?
“Wow”
I take it this is vr only?
Not at all, VR is just a thing you CAN do. The game was always originally a standard non-VR game.
Try freespace 2 ,with its updated mods and multiple campaigns I think you'd really get a kick from it.
Probably one of the best is the Wing Commander 3 mod. Its a parallel campaign to the original game and is one of the best. The Babylon 5 mods are great as well.
@@aaronhenley4741 I heartily agree The B5 mod is utter class, as are the blue planet campaign.
You know if you had done aileron rolls you never would have gotten hit. Because hollywierd has taught everyone all you need to do is aileron rolls.
