- Blink 182 - July 29, 1996 - Montreal at Underworld.
Newly uncovered footage, that was recently digitized. This is a rare gem. I did not film this show, but I received it directly from the venue owner. The copy I received is probably one of the only ones around, so it's fortunate I was able to find and digitize.
This show was right before Blink 182 became huge. This venue was at the back of the Underworld record store, which had a capacity of approx 250. A little over a year later, on October 3, 1997, they came back to Montreal and played at the Metropolis, which had a capacity of 2500. I have that October 1997 also up on CZcams.
Lineup for this July 29, 1996 show: Blink 182, Unwritten Law, My Big Wheel (a local Montreal punk rock band).
Note - Strung Out and Diesel Boy may have played this show. Or they may have played a few nights before this. I do have 25 seconds of the Strung Out show, but no Diesel Boy.
0:00 - Touchdown Boy
3:00 - Wasting Time
5:40 - Peggy Sue
8:30 - Does My Breath Smell?
11:16 - Sometimes
12:22 - Wrecked Him
15:06 - Apple Shampoo
17:54 - Depends
(20:24 - rap alpha version of Family Reunion + random rap lol)
21:17 - Romeo And Rebecca
23:35 - Lemmings
26:05 - A New Hope
30:12 - Carousel
33:10 - M+Ms
35:55 - Toast And Bananas - Hudba
This is such history holy shit. To think a quick 3 years later, theyd be playing stadiums is insane.
They're so tight here though I can see how. It was inevitable
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
to all the people who called blink 'posers' and 'industry plants'... they started playing genuine underground shows. They're as punk as can be
During M+Ms there's a girl near Mark singing and then he notices her and pads her head, such wholesome footage.
I always hear newer blink fans say blink was always bad live,. but us older ones know. they used to give their all. and it used to be intense. i saw them on this tour i was 14 i think. wild times
So glad to see them giving their all again on this current tour. Saw them for the 19th time in D.C. and they haven’t been this good since.. well maybe ‘96.
WOW This is truly a rare gem !!!! i was there at that show in 1996 . This show was during the 1996 Warped Tour . The Underworld skate shop was at the corner of Boul Henri Bourassa /Millen in Ahuntsic borough ( north of Montreal ) then . There was a concert room at the back of the skateshop where punk rock bands would play . I remember seeing Blink 182 . They came twice in 1996 and once in 1997 . The other 1996 show at the Spectrum downtown was during the SnoJam , . Being a skater in the mid-90s was just awesome . They came in 1998 at the cepsum ( university of montreal ) for the Dude Ranch tour . Those were the best years of my life . NOfx , bad religion , no use for a name , lagwagon , 90s punk rock was awesome . Those were the days . I believe they close that venue room at the back of the skate shop cause fire department has ruled it unsafe in case of emergency , if i recall correctly . The underworld close in the early 2000 if i remember well and relocated downtown , its now a grocery store at the old spot . I live like 5 minutes away from there . Thank you for uploading it . That was 26 years ago . Crazy how fast time goes .
You ve made me cry . Be guys on 90s has been very satisfied
I'm from Brazil, 28 years old, at the time I was only 2 years old, you are very lucky to have lived at that time.
Growing up in so cal in the early 90’s as a skater myself I can agree so much talent back then but not just Cali or the us propagandhi, I spy , swallowing shit were some of my favorites I’d include on my homemade compilations!
Sounds like you've had an experience millions could only dream of nowadays
Damn!
A rare time where hits like All The Small Things & even Dammit still haven’t existed yet in their live show setlist.
33:24 I’m pretty sure those were the most awesome 30 secs of that girl’s life: singing m+m’s next to Mark, Mark acknowledging it adorably, and then throwing herself into the crowd. Unbelievable shit
I know right? That was wholesome to see.
show this to whoever tells you Blink was never a punk band.
Blink-182 real punks
Punk 'till 1998
as much as I want to say blink is punk they were. Until 1998 when Travis joined the band. Scott made them punk and dude ranch is one of the best punk albums but that was the last time they were punk
@@elebeltran9916 They never stopped being punk, even when Travis joined they were still punk
@@mightylo5980 you are sooooo wrong. they went pop after dude. and Scott was a better punk drummer.
I've been listening to Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch a lot lately and even though I love all their albums, these are my favorites. Hard, raw, late 90s punk music. Thanks for posting this concert. I love it!
agreed ! totally different vibe
Crazy seeing this garage band level shit and realizing they would become one of the biggest rock bands of all time. The 90s were pure bliss.
The sad thing is that outside of Carousel, we'll never hear any of these songs live anymore.
Even Carousel is a wild card nowadays. Saw them the other night and we got Dammit and nothing else Dude Ranch or before
Why not?
@@ColinlmaoBecause their discography is so extensive now and Mark and Tom have more or less written off Scott due to their fallout. Dammit and Carousel are the only pre-Travis songs that I see staying in (or coming back to) the set list.
@@hermunkulus oh damn okay. Thanks for letting me know
Would love to hear Carousel, wasting time, waggy, enthused, untitled, emo, mutt, and story of a lonely guy live.
When everyone is on stage, it puts into perspective just how tall Mark and Tom are.
yeah tom is 6'5
Hear Scott beating the shit out of those drums like they owe him money.
:DDD
Hahahahah yup!!!
Haha, I used to see them live and think “chill out, Scott…those drums have gotta last the whole show!”
ya he was a pretty basic drummer tbh. not surprised that they went with Travis instead
@wlndbeach nobody cares about the 90s jersey hardcore scene...or anything related to jersey really
I love finding footage of them playing Lemmings ❤️
This is why I love CZcams so much
Wow, Scott absolutely crushed it in this video! His drumming skills are on another level, and he's nailing every beat with incredible precision. It's impressive to see how he's taken control of his performance and delivered such a phenomenal performance. Scott deserves all the praise for his talent and hard work. He was a fantastic drummer for blink, and moments like these prove just how much of an asset he was to the band. Kudos to Scott for this amazing display of skill and passion!
Let's not forget to acknowledge the personal battles he fought along the way, as they make his accomplishments even more remarkable.
The albums he recorded with the band during his time were undeniably influential and helped shape the band's sound and success. His unique style and energy added a dynamic element to their music that resonated with many fans. It's difficult to imagine what blink-182 would have been like without his presence. Scott played an integral role in the band's evolution and left a lasting impact on their discography. Let's express our gratitude for the memorable era he was a part of and the incredible music they created together.
Dude you’ve clearly never heard of josh freese….
@@fseuss have you heard of Derrick Plourde?

@@briannasca3044 yeah, thanks!
You’re awesome! Thanks
This audience doesn't realize what it witnessed, LONG LIVE BLINK
Thats where youre wrong my friend, these people were more present in this moment than anyone at a show is today. All vibes.
The best show of my life! Glad it found its way on the tube !! Thanks Andy, whoever you are
Glad you enjoyed it. I have Unwritten Law also posted up, from the same night.
Damn even got a performance of Wrecked Him! This is fucking cool.
Wrecked Him is my favorite early blink tune along with Touchdown boy and Peggy Sue and Enthused💯
Am exactly at that moment right now. Sounds so goooood
Thanks for up
Thanks for this! This is awesome. Gotta love Tom at the end!
Awesome, thanks for posting!!
Wow Tom crowd surfing at the end of the set. I’ve never seen anything like that. Thanks for uploading, dude! Holy shit
More of a crowd dive than a surf.
Knew this was around but almost impossible to find, thanks Andy!
This is amazing! I wish I could just go back in time and be there for a minute!
I'm crying dude, I love this ❤️
This took way too long to get recommended to me. Thanks for this upload! Sick footy
This is sooo awesome :) thanks for posting
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude some extra rare Lemmings footage. To the camera man and uploaded, Thank you for your service
This is so fucking rad. Thanks so much for uploading!!
This is gold
Underworld records. Millen and henri bourassa. Best place on earth .. miss the 90s
So fucken sick. Thank you for this ❤
Toms guitar skills are underrated
Maybe, but they’re definitely not overrated. My bed they’re just.. rated?
its cool when he does his carousel solo he plays the 3rd riff up on the neck then next down lower he was fast. hes kind of a big dude big hands.
Only person I've seen get WORSE at guitar the more they played 😂. But nah I think he just got lazy.
@@RD24LFG kirk hammet of metallica is another example of getting worse
@@psydvckk they didn't get worse I just think they've played so many shows that they don't take it that serious. Personally, I don't think either of them are so bad that I wouldn't pay to go to a show, but I could see why some people would be upset.
Gotta say, these guys do have more talent then the average skate punk band. You equate Travis and yea they deserve to be arena rock headliner status
😊I've followed Blink182 since 1999 and seen them at several 😊shows in the UK 🇬🇧. Last seen them in October last year in Manchester UK 🇬🇧. Absolutely awesome as per usual. Thanks for posting this video 😊it's very cool 😎 😊😊
damn i’m happy i can see this
Back in 96, if you wanted to sing you got up and sang.
USEED was a punk band from Quebec Montreal , my cousins band , punk was huge in Montreal back then
Also, one of the most entertaining intros I’ve seen of Does my Breath Smell
Different era , different breed of people. Hard to find experiences like this nowadays
So true, and I'm so glad I was able to experience all of it!
😂 Kids are out there seeing great shows and having great times. It's just that we're old and time has passed.
@@johnmacdonald3649 Have you listened to modern pop? lol. It's definitely not punk rock vibes
It's Ed Sheeran and Justin Beiber. Adele and Taylor Swift. Blink182 was a golden era for sure
@@BobGnarley. agreed! Modern pop music is really quite terrible. But the punk rock kids of today are out there starting bands and going to shows in basements and back yards. Rock n Roll trends are cyclical and punk will have its day in the sun again.
@@johnmacdonald3649 We can dream brotha
This show is fuckin amazing. This kinda shit doesnt happen anymore
What an awesome find interesting to see them play before they became super big
Awesome!
amazing footage, thanks for sharing
I was at this show, did t have a clue who blink182 was, but I sure as hell had a good time, they were so entertaining but the minute I saw them play at the Vans warped tour I new they were going to be more than just a regular punk rock band.
cool story! wish i had more of these nowadays.
Underworld was such a great place, so many unknown punk rock bands played there, and like Blink 182 just blow up months or years later. Anti flag was another band that played there. Before and after all the shows the guys just hung around outside chilling with the fans or soon to be fans.
@@andrewscanzano4846 thanks for sharing!
How old are you when you come to this show..?
@@suryoardi7109 I was 18
So amazing in their teen!
great gem
Strung Out was not there. I was playing in MBW! Epic show! Thanks for the upload!
oh ok thanks for clarifying. Someone told me Strung Out played, but I guess that was another show.
i wish i could be in this pit. props to them for makin it, but a stadium show with everyone with their phones out is so fucking sad to see.
Great capture of a moment in time. Was this from the Race Around Uranus tour?
My favorit album 🔥🔥🔥
Sick show!!!!
Now if we can just find a live version of 21 Days I’d be able to die happy
wow thank you this is gem!!! do you have footage videos in Sno-Jam Tour '96?
No I do not, unfortunately.
The whole snojam tour at Spectrum can be found on youtube . I have it somewhere , it was available on youtube by a guy name Pedrhino who uploaded a few old school blink 182 shows back then . I have the set seomwhere .
I remember these days
Scotts got that one drum beat down...
Great set! They should do a tour where they play everything before enema of the state.
Still have my Cheshire cat CD after all these years 🔥
Same here bro, epic album!
Here I am.
merci man!
Hell yeah !!!
❤️❤️❤️
So cool to see them just prior to probably beginning to write Enema. Now they are headlining Coachella after reuniting and are absolute figureheads and legends in music alone regardless of genre
Lol what? Dude Ranch wouldn’t even come out until 11 months after this performance. Travis wasn’t in the band, enema was several years away
A swing and a miss
Wow 😮😮😮😮😮
20:44 the precursor to family reunion.
Apple shampoo early version vraiment nice
Wasting Time, M+Ms, and Carousel - their best songs imo
Amazing guys. Girls love extra. God bless.
Underworld was a punk store in Montréal. They organized shows in the store's basement.
Yep, not basement, but actually in a back room behind the store. There was a basement though, which I don't believe hosted any shows. I was in the basement once, did a video interview with Assorted Jellybeans.
Теряю свое время помню репетировали летом перед днем военно- морского флота..для выступления в городском парке..эх..было время.
Damn I didn’t even know underworld was around that long 👀
I wish they played "Sometimes" live more often; it's an underrated song.
Mark Hoppus no longer suffered cancer, he still on treatment, i doubt blink 182 will make gigs soon
So is Josie and tv
They played in Take Off Your Pants tour
Cool
bro im crying 9:18 Tom lost control of the situation, looks Mark, looks Scott and do that scream🤣
nice
I saw these guys open up for Cake back in the early 90's. Never in 1 million years did i think that these guys were the ones who would get famous... They were and always will be a slightly less tweeker verson of Green Day.
fucken rad footage
This is a really show...
Damn and they just headlined Coachella
It would take 2 more years for me to learn who blink 182 was at this point in my life.
Did u have a footage that they play EMO LIVE?
No
They look huge

Everyone talking about how great they sound in 2023. Ha! This is the real deal, not the washed up, auto-tuned cash-in mess that is the current tour.
The guitar riff for Peggy Sue's special was different... Soon become the special for I'm sorry! Gold
Yeah, Tom played it that way during the 96 Warped Tour in Miami as well.
It’s the I’m Sorry riff before that song existed.
hot take- Blink 182 peaked at the song "Lemmings." maybe not totally (but mostly), but damn it is still a decent song.
You shoulda seen my reaction when I found out Lemmings was on this shows setlist. It's Blinks best song in my opinion!
the fact it’s followed be A New Hope and Carousel makes it even better
30:39 me, shaking my head when listen carousel live version (fast intro tempo)
Tom plays his guitar parts almost flawless considering the amount of chaos on stage. Skiba can't even do it in a controlled environment.
It’s all about having that poise
Compare that to Tom being very young as well, It’s crazy that a 20+ year old Tom beats a 40-50 year old Skiba (or however old he is haha)
The man who wrote, what did you expect
@@andrejs1828 skiba didnt care thats why, hes singing and playing toms material haha and it wasnt even his style. He was just a bad fit idk why that ever happened
Yeah, Live, Tom played and sang impeccably up until the Enema tours where he became more sloppy.
Special footage
The best blink shows didn’t have Travis Barker ✅
dude that little jam at 32:45 is cool as fuck hahhawtff

For Me is the Buddha record the best…😊😊..i was 17 j…😬…scott Time…✌️
The REAL Blink! ^^
The time Tom did actually sing and didn't make drunk cow noises
touchdown boy is pretty hard to play that fast correctly. Even Tom can't play it right. Or most of their songs haha
