I look at the strange history of pop-punk's biggest band Blink-182, including:
    * How Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge met, Scott Raynor, early Blink-182 demos and "Buddha"
    * Signing to Cargo, releasing "Buddha" and "Cheshire Cat"
    * The start of fame with "Dude Ranch" and "Dammit"
    * Travis Barker joining and Blink-182's rise to fame with "Enema Of The State" ("All The Small Things" and "What's My Age Again")
    * Side projects like Boxcar Racer, +44, Angels & Airwaves and Transplants
    * Tom Delonge's departure from Blink-182, their breakup and reunion
    * Matt Skiba's arrival, "California," "Nine" and their influence on pop-punk

The video for Josie was filmed at my high school. I remember it vividly because Blink sent a VHS of the Josie music video to everyone who lived in the area. I watched that VHS probably over 100 times until it ended up ripping and coming apart inside my VHS player and breaking it. That was when I became obsessed with Blink as a 10 year old kid.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about Mark's cancer diagnosis and how that brought him and Tom together again. There's been rumours floating around about Tom potentially rejoining, maybe even with Matt sticking around. I'd be very curious to see what that version of Blink would look like. It's definitely all conjecture at this point but I think at least worth mentioning.

You know the Blink purists would hate it if Matt stuck around. Blink supposed to be a three piece, but I would be interested to hear what they come out with. I don't think it would ever happen with the four of them though. Maybe Tom rejoins the band, but that probably means Matt is out. And unlike every other band that would answer with "nah we're like brothers" they were like... "yeah, we'll break up if it stops being fun." So refreshingly honest. It was so weird to then watch them become such a huge important band.

Neighborhoods (extended release) is one of the only albums I listen to from track one till the end. It's Blink 182 perfection. Maybe they're not all bangers, or pop-punk hits, maybe they didn't record them all in the same place, sure, it lacks dick jokes, maybe sometimes I skip Love Is Dangerous - but the album is an exceptional showcase of Travis' skills. I swear we can sort of hear every one of the side-projects being melted down into these tracks, influences of +44, Angels In Airwaves and anything else they were up to distilled into something slightly more grown up.

Untitled is such a masterpiece! One of the best albums I've ever heard - lyrics, music, vocals, production - everything's perfect for me. And songs where Mark is calmly singing (as usual) while Tom is screaming - Feeling This, Stockholm Syndrome, Go or Easy Target - are just so full of tension and darkly beautiful, I can't even describe how they make me feel. I Miss You with it's hunting instumental and weird, oddly cool vocals is one of my favorite songs of all time. Easy Target too - it's like a super-concentrate of coolness.
And I really like Neighborhoods - maybe because I'm not a teen and wasn't really into blink-182 during my teenage years (MCR was my jam). There are a lot of very VERY beautiful songs, such as After Midnight, Natives or Kaleidoscope, but yeah, it feels like AVA with Mark, which isn't a bad thing for me by any means - I always liked Tom's vision and writing a lot more.

I totally agree on the album Enema of the state. It was my first album I bought and never regretted. I love every song. Also Rock Show and First Date are one of the best Blink-182 songs.

Everyone has their take on Blink 182, and I love to hear them all.
As someone who grew up in the same San Diego suburb as Tom, I am still a huge fan of everything he did from Cheshire Cat to the self titled Blink 182 album. I like his influences, and I like his unique expressions of what is catchy and what is creative and how to blend the two together.
Recently, I listened through all of Blink and Blink-adjacent-projects again, and I think I finally understand the logical progression from Enema of The State through Self Titled (including Box Car Racer, which is the best thing Tom has put out IMO). I think that the problem with Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is that it was a stepping stone album. It was the bridge between EOTS and Box Car Racer, and like you said, that Box Car Racer sound leads into their Self Titled album. The more I listen to it, the more it seams like a slow, intentionally calculated transition. For those who never got into or listened to Box Car Racer, I can understand how they could think the Self Titled album is pinnacle Blink.
Angels and Airwaves is Tom’s least compelling work IMO
it’s very Coldplay-esque and it just doesn’t feel genuine. Tbh, I’d rather just listen to him talk about aliens than listen to that music.
I could never get into +44 or anything Blink did after their self titled.

Tom's voice is the voice of blink 182. Without him the band will never be the same. Travis barker is the best drummer of all time.
One of my favorites that isn't as popular is Stay together for the kids. As I grew up in an abusive household this song made me feel not so alone

We have a music program in Australia (still runs to this day) called Rage and they would play the top 50 chart songs each week on Sunday mornings. Myself and no doubt much of the youth in Aus would get up early on a Sunday morning to watch the weekly countdown. I remember seeing the Josie clip for the first time and being hooked! Good times.

If you listen really close to Take Off Your Pants And Jacket you can hear the label executives in the background, chanting: "Well, the last album sold pretty well, here's a sh*t ton of money, now do it again!" (which to be fair is what Mark wanted to do anyway)

May I tell this story. I saw Blink 182 at Adelaide Uni Bar when they were touring Cheshire Cat. I went with an anarcho punk girl I liked. It cost $10 to get in the show. I thought that was a freaken rip off. I had sooo much fun at that show though. They were so much fun and played so well and played for freaken ages. They even played the song I had been screaming for them to play in the encore.... Loved it. Never got anywhere with that girl despite her having fun. Oh well, guess there is a Blink song about that..

Tom used to play in Tiltwheel, either before he performed in Blink or when they first started. I still have the Tiltwheel demo cassette from 3 different sessions where Tom is on there for a few songs, and two of those songs made it to Cheshire Cat. The first e-mail I ever got is from Mark Hoppus back in the late 90's, where we talked about Star Wars and about those Tiltwheel songs which they ended up using for their own. But yeah, Tiltwheel and Blink used to play shows together back in the day. The way I got that old Tiltwheel demo is because I wrote them after hearing their song 8 & 1/2 which was used during the credits of the Plan B - Virtual Reality skate video. I only know one other guy in Regina, Saskatchewan who has it. Davey asked us never to share it, but I already have it converted to digital. I can't remember the names of the songs right now, but if you listen to old Tiltwheel songs online, you'll find them.

This band makes me re-live that time when I was a teenager, chasing girls, trying to impress them and failing monumentally. Their darker songs like ADAM'S SONG, STAY TOGETHER FOR THE KIDS, I MISS YOU, etc helped me deal with demons I had at the time. I've always liked heavier music but Blink-182 was a game changer for me because it taught me to be happy and deal with the shit around me at the same time. I'm 36 YO and I still listen to their music, few bands managed to have that staying power with my music tastes over the years.
