  • We travelled from Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Penang, Malaysia using Grab Taxis, Train and Boat.
    The Grab App is an easy and cheap way to get around Malaysia. To use the Grab app you need data, so get a local SIM card!
    The train tickets we pre-booked online and we were in economy class. The train was brilliant, air conditioned and even played movies!
    The boat tickets we picked up at the boat dock, and they were very cheap! It was a lovely smooth ride.
    All in all, our very first travel day in Asia travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang went without a hitch!

    The nasi lemak has no standard of taste.
    Its always has a difference taste based on where you bought it or who make it.
    Some seller make it spicy like you just put a fire in your mouth, some make the sambal sweeter like a candy (the east coaster nasi lemak seller like to make sambal far more sweeter).

    Thanks for the lovely vlog for the journey from KL to Penang by train. I was looking for the train where one can sleepover (on the train) overnight but this one would do too ( I suppose). Not sure how long is the train journey. So once you both reach Butterworth, is there a long walking journey from the train station to the ferry station? I was thinking of bringing my elderly parents to Penang ( from KL) but I am worry about the long walking distance.

Morning time, local ppl will prefer go kopitiam ( coffeeshop) have breakfast , u can try hand brew hainanese coffee and charcoal roasted kaya benggali bread with half boiled egg. They are perfect match. Besides, u can have noodles e.g prawn noodle (Hokkien Mee), Curry noodle, Wantan mee, Asam laksa, char kuey tiao etc.

    The RM2 Nasi lemak is if its a stall by the roadside next to a smelly drain and the portion is very small. You will need 3 or 4 packets to satisfy yourself.
    They were eating in a restaurant in a major town; hence, I would not call it a rip off. Though for RM5, it would be nice to get a bigger portion and served on a plate. Prices do vary between vendors so its still not that outrageous..

    Wish you’d consider losing the background music or dramatically reduce it. I think most people would prefer listening to the real sounds in the train or of the surroundings. The music is annoying. Otherwise thanks for the video.

      Hi Edwin, i hold my hands up. I did not choose the right Nasi Lemak! I will just have to come back and redeem myself :) I have added Village Park on our list for when we return to Malaysia, thank you for the information :)

      @@TrueLoveTravels the nasi lemak you had is call "nasi lemak bungkus biasa" usually cost around rm1-2 max rm3. "Biasa" mean normal, without any dish like chicken etc.

    You guys are from UK. A little Pound get converted to Ringgit gives you so much of ringgit money. Our ringgit is nothing for you. Why cant you spend your holiday in more luxury way in malaysia. Rather than using grab, you can use the taxi service supporting the taxi drivers. Rather staying in air bnb you can stay in 5 star hotels. Rather eating in cheap restaurants you can dine in nice and better restaurants or hotels. we malaysians can able to spend more in your country with pounds more than you spend in malaysia with ringgit. Sorry Im just curious. Is UK people so stingy or poor? Pls clarify.

      @TrueLoveTravels  Před 4 lety +4

      Hi Key, I am sure that there are lots of people that enjoy the luxury hotels and fancy restaraunts but being travellers we have a small budget and travelling to us is about learning and experiencing new cultures and we don't need posh hotels and fancy restaraunts for that 😁

      Just because these tourists are from developed countries and we automatically assumed they are well-off. On a 80/20 rule, only a minority is able or willing to spend exorbitant costs on their holidays while the rest of us common folks prefer to stretch our dollar or ringgit further to enjoy more. Why need to pay for an Evian when one can have our very own version, Spritzer? I feel only by going on a shoestring budget can one truly indulge in an experience which connects to local people and their way of life. There is no way a high-class traveler would want to eat at a roadside stall or take public transport. They would dine in posh restaurants which isn't lacking in their own countries. Why would they need to do the same here? The gist of it all is to immerse oneself into the local culture and perhaps able to take away something, whether good or bad from all these experiences that will serve as a permanent memory. From another Malaysian.

      Please don’t be an arsehole. Expecting European tourists to spend as if cash is raining in their continent and us drought of wherewithal is utterly hideous thing to say.
