After spending a while in Kuala Lumpur, it was time for us to head a little bit north towards Penang. The place we wanted to explore was George Town and the only way to get there was either by train, or by bus. The train and bus however only took you to butterworth and then you had to grab a ferry from butterworth to George town.
George Town is a one of the cultural cities in Malaysia and bases it's pride on food and culture. George town is also known for it's wall art that is a must see whenyou here. We also had to try Nasi Kandar, a popular dish that is native to Penang
In order to explore the town, we rented an awesome little electric motorbike, honestly one of the best ways to explore George Town in Malaysia.

Kaya(the jam) is made of coconut milk egg and sugar.
The main ingredients of kaya jam are coconut milk, eggs and sugar. Cooked and stirred constantly over a low flame for a long time 😅
Thank you for the short tour of George town..loved the exciting tour on ebike. Definitely want to try it. I had been to Penang back in 2015 and we enjoyed it so much. The street art is so real and has a 3D effect which I don't find anywhere else.
There is also a Blue Mansion which is so huge with so many rooms and all with intricate designs. Also loved the Penang Hill funicular train.
Oh man I want to go back again.

the KAYA toast is basicaly a toast bread spread with Kaya instead of jam or butter. so KAYA a type of bread spread used in malaysia. its made from eggs, milk, and other ingredients, it turns into a golden brown caramel like cream. its sold in tins on many supermarkest all around malaysia. kaya is used for cooking bread, baking cookies or cakes as well. it has a very interesting texture and a light sweet taste. kids would love it.

As the artwork you read earlier, the wooden stick and the food containers on each side of the stick are the kandar. The common way of serving the nasi kandar is by pouring all the different gravies onto the rice as it was in the olden days.

Suggest your guy go to GURNEY drive and PADANG kota , not far from town.. try the yummy (Pasembur Rojak)..

The Chew Jetty - if i'm not mistaken, the early chinese immgrant build them on sea, since back that day, taxes need to be paid for those who stay on land (the island). So, if you stay off the land, some sort, you would not need to pay taxes..correct me if i'm wrong, since i did read it somewhere...just forget where 😬😬
The seller told you a different thing about Nasi Kandar. Nasi Kandar doesn't mean putting different gravies on your plate of rice. To 'kandar' means to use a length of wood or bamboo strung on one shoulder to carry something on both ends.. Seems that many many years ago, Indian Muslim food sellers used this method to sell their wares. So the name nasi kandar has become a 'legend' and it is famous in Penang as there are many Indian Muslim immigrants living here.

Apa yg anda perhatikan tulisan itu adalah tulisan di papan tanda kedai2 seluruh Penang. Jadi jika majoriti kedai Cina atau India memanglah ada tulisan Cina atau India. Tapi kalau ikut tulisan di Signage atau papan tanda jalan dikekalkan bahasa Melayu & Inggeris.
Kamu kena faham, mereka melancong itu pada hari bekerja bukan pada hari minggu, dah tentu ramai pelancong asing yang kamu nampak bahkan orang Bangladesh yang bekerja di sana. Kalau mengikut sejarah Malaysia pada waktu Inggeris menjajah, mereka membawa ramai orang Cina dan India dari tanah besar. Jadi kalau nak disamakan dengan negara Indonesia memang tak sama sekali. Negara Malaysia ini sebuah negara yang majmuk & berbilang kaum.. Pemimpin Malaysia kena mengamalkan dasar ekonomi terbuka.
Walaupun negara kami mengamalkan dasar ekonomi terbuka, tapi kami punya juga jati diri, kami punya Sultan di setiap negeri yang menjaga Adat-adat istidat Melayu, Agama Islam. Sebab itu negara kami tidak benarkan kahwin campur suka2, di mana seperti di Indonesia emaknya Kristian & bapanya Islam, manakala anaknya tersepit ditengah2.
