I'm in the process of changing to a Ryzen 3950x RTX2080ti build after 2 decades+ of being a Mac user ( it won't be a hackintosh, don't need the hassle ) can't wait to finally be able to get my teeth into some high end graphic rendering. No way was I going to spend £6K on a basic Mac Pro when I can get something faster with decent graphics for half the price.
No idea what Apple are even thinking with this new machine to be honest ( if it's ever released ) I mean, the base model has an AMD Radeon Pro 580X for crying out loud, it's like some kind of dumb joke for people with more money than sense.

@@random_bit real time cpu performance is for recording live instruments and or vocals in studio production. The real time latency is most important for studio recording so there isn't a delay in what your recording/playing and the sound coming threw the computer monitor or headphones.

    • @rocnroll0065

@@random_bit yes...the analog to digital converters in your audio interface has its own latency and then the computer has to put that information threw a DAW(digital audio workstation) and whatever effect plugins that may be used to enhance that signal, then computer sends that all back threw the audio interface to the monitors or headphones. Most audio programs for music production also rely on single core speed and are yet to spread the workload out to all cores efficiently. I use the i9-9900k for the IPC/clock speed at 5.0ghz. Hopefully with driver updates for multi core processor we can see future music production programs utilizing multiple cores efficiently. I believe 16core/32 is the limit outside of a program DAW named Reaper.

Hey Quinn, really inspiring video, but it's important to let viewers know that in addition to the things you mentioned that don't work, there are a couple other big issues: 1) no power management with AMD CPUs. 2) though thunderbolt 3 is on the motherboard, there is no current evidence that it works under macOS. In your video, you didn't show any examples of a thunderbolt 3 device actually operating. Does thunderbolt 3 work reliably on this rig? Can you demonstrate it connected to a thunderbolt 3 device that shows it moving data at full 40GB/s bandwidth? Thanks!

@ Exactly. Gb vs GB. They're two different measures. And there are many ways this can be demonstrated - show us a working 5K display, or two working 4K displays or a Thunderbolt 3 RAID transferring data at full bandwidth and is completely stable. If Snazzy Labs can demonstrate this then I'll believe AMD Thunderbolt 3 works but they haven't in this video. And so far there's no evidence inside the large AMD Hackintosh Reddit community of *anyone* having it working. So I'm simply asking Quinn and @Snazzy Labs to show us some proof. Just because the motherboard has the ports doesn't mean they work reliably. ;)

@wO Having used regular macs, how do hackintosh fares in terms of reliability? Any special quirks or problems that are a pain in the butt?
I really like osx/macos but buying a disposable computer for that much money is dumb.

Here's an acid test for you: Run Logic Pro X with as many plugins as possible before it hiccups. Also, is there an AMD chip that can match or beat the Intel Xeon 28 core?
