@McBossBrine if Apple were to make the move to a objectively better chip set, then the industry would be forced to move with it, ie removal of the headphone jack and the boom of Bluetooth audio devices. I Strongly believe the same can be said that if they were to move to an epyc based system/threadripper system, that either at the same time as launch or quickly following such software would be patched optimising performance. That's why I have 0 idea what all of this Mac Pro hype is over. Who on god's green earth wants to have an Intel workstation when AMD is launching 32 and 64 core CPU's that demolish that 28 core Xeon?
@Julien Lindauer Sure, but it should be priced appropriately when you can throw together or even order a PC with like a 3950x or 3970x that costs less than even the base Mac Pro but delivers infinitely better performance than a fully spec'ed out Mac Pro with the 28 core Xeon. And if you're wanting a machine with 0 concern for price, then you even have the 64 core 3990x that makes the Mac Pro look like a punch line.
Cause apple sheeple love overpaying for apple stuff.
@Julien Lindauer You say that like companies and studios aren't made up of... people...
@Julien Lindauer yes, and a decent number of Mac users use them in thier home offices. I've worked with more than a few that went the hackintosh route because the iMac pro wasn't what they wanted and for the money the old garbage can wasn't worth the cost. Apple has a pro market they have been ignoring for years now.
@@nadtz The ryzenshine cost $4,375. And gives you 1331 score on Geekbench 5, while the 2019 imac 5k (not even the pro) gives you 1258 points for $2.699, so in cost/benefits you are losing a lot, sure in multicore the diference is higher but you are paying 40% more. Also, with the imac you get a 5k 27" display, one of the best displays in the world included. To you ryzeshine add the cost of one good 27" 5k monitor, you will be at more than the double of the cost of the Imac, and you wont get the double of performance in any test.

Really interested in how well an AMD Ryzen Hack performs in audio/music production, where REALTIME cpu performance (mainly single core performance) is utterly important, which is not really the case for video applications.
@@random_bit real time cpu performance is for recording live instruments and or vocals in studio production. The real time latency is most important for studio recording so there isn't a delay in what your recording/playing and the sound coming threw the computer monitor or headphones.
@@random_bit yes...the analog to digital converters in your audio interface has its own latency and then the computer has to put that information threw a DAW(digital audio workstation) and whatever effect plugins that may be used to enhance that signal, then computer sends that all back threw the audio interface to the monitors or headphones. Most audio programs for music production also rely on single core speed and are yet to spread the workload out to all cores efficiently. I use the i9-9900k for the IPC/clock speed at 5.0ghz. Hopefully with driver updates for multi core processor we can see future music production programs utilizing multiple cores efficiently. I believe 16core/32 is the limit outside of a program DAW named Reaper.
@@random_bit lol...sounds like latency is a pain to us both....I read that ARM based processors are not far away from giving us a new architecture to take latency and clock speed to much higher specs that with RISC base chips that are needing high power and producing alot of heat. Do you have any thoughts on that future direction?
I'm building mine right now with the 3950x, once I get it working I'll try to make a video showing how well it will perform and how is the latency when using large projects with multiple virtual instruments. I'm still a bit skeptical If's going to be just as stable as my macbook is...we'll see.

How about a threadripper build with some of their insane cpus?
I'm pretty sure macOS currently actually crashes if it finds more than 63 threads which means anything higher than a 32-core TR (with one core disabled) won't work, unfortunately. However the 64-core version isn't even out so far anyway.
defi well that’s definitely interesting. Hope more threads are supported in the future
@@CoffeeD_1 Probably only if Apple decides to use anything that actually has more than 28 cores, as that's currently the highest core count they ship with the new Mac Pro. Knowing Apple, I doubt that will happen as they barely refresh the Mac Pro to begin with and the chance of them actually switching to AMD processors is slim enough as it is, let alone the chance of them using Threadrippers.
@@luciascarlet " let alone the chance of them using Threadrippers." If Apple switches to AMD then Threadripper is only way to go because Ryzen doesn't have the features needed for the Mac Pro (mainly the massive amount of PCIe lanes).

Hey Quinn, really inspiring video, but it's important to let viewers know that in addition to the things you mentioned that don't work, there are a couple other big issues: 1) no power management with AMD CPUs. 2) though thunderbolt 3 is on the motherboard, there is no current evidence that it works under macOS. In your video, you didn't show any examples of a thunderbolt 3 device actually operating. Does thunderbolt 3 work reliably on this rig? Can you demonstrate it connected to a thunderbolt 3 device that shows it moving data at full 40GB/s bandwidth? Thanks!
40gb/s data moving? there are not such a thing... he is showing one of The fastest ssd in the world... (AMD only) PCI gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSD and u can see the result of the copy and write numbers, 4gb/s. how to test 40gb/s data moving while ur main ssd can go up to 4gb/s.
@@flushroyal970 That SSD is doing 4 GB/second, not 4 Gb/second. Bytes vs bits. 32 Gb/second isn't shabby.
@ Exactly. Gb vs GB. They're two different measures. And there are many ways this can be demonstrated - show us a working 5K display, or two working 4K displays or a Thunderbolt 3 RAID transferring data at full bandwidth and is completely stable. If Snazzy Labs can demonstrate this then I'll believe AMD Thunderbolt 3 works but they haven't in this video. And so far there's no evidence inside the large AMD Hackintosh Reddit community of *anyone* having it working. So I'm simply asking Quinn and @Snazzy Labs to show us some proof. Just because the motherboard has the ports doesn't mean they work reliably. ;)

why do the 3950X, when there's the threadripper 3970X, I'm wondering how it compares to that 50K Mac pro.

I would really like to see how the hackintosh holds up against the new cheese grater. Will you do a comparison in the future?
Where can I get the build instructions and part description for this build ?
