For the first time in one of these tool showcases, I feel like actually downloading the majority of these, because they are actually really useful.
I’ll add to this, this makes me want to swap to MacOS
@@Blodwynnn I swapped recently and these apps and the others Snazzy has recommended have made the transition so much better
@@garethbuckley8739 if Macs were gaming friendly, offered a way to transfer my several TBs of storage from my current desktop over to a MacBook without purchasing less effective, less intuitive and more expensive external storage units, I’d sell my current desktop in a heartbeat to be on macOS. No matter the most extreme extents of deep Windows customisation I delve, it doesn’t look or feel half as good as stock iOS does and almost always gives me incompatibility and performance issues.
At the moment, my ideal plan of action would be keeping my current PC, using it for gaming and a storage/streaming hub between all my devices and any other specific odd times when its graphical performance and 32gb of memory are required/preferred, but then spending the rest of my time on an M1 MacBook Air in conjunction with my iPad Mini 6. Oh how I crave to have input device handoff & continuity camera access
Quinn is an old school mac user, and not a millenial influencer ding dong idiot running their facehole without engaging their gray and white matter
@@Blodwynnn more or less what i have, a linux pc for gaming and a macbook pro for doing work
What I really appreciated was that you weren't just suggesting the apps, but you went through them, you talked about your use case or the main features of the apps, and THAT makes them really helpful or makes us understand if we would really need an app or not. Thanks Quinn!
Thanks!
@@snazzy Sir is there something like Velja for the iPhone?
Couldn't agree more!
I can honestly say that I haven’t heard of any of these utilities and I’m probably going to install most of these now! Thanks for a very informative video!
As someone who has, begrudgingly, been using Windows instead of MacOS for about seven years I was interested in what new productivity/convenience apps were available. I was incredibly happy to see some of my old go-tos are still around and the rest of the options Quinn presented looked great. In fact, once my M1 Mini arrives on Monday 10 of these apps are getting installed immediately. Thanks for helping me get off on the right foot, Quinn 👍🏻
Glad to see there’s still some awesome free apps out there in an age of subscription based apps being the default now
Things you can't avoid: Death, Taxes, Ads or Subscriptions 😭
Thank you fellow nerds for these wonderful gems.
Something that oddly enough is more prevalent in the Apple/Mac ecosystem. The quality of the paid/subscription apps is sometimes higher than free/open-source apps available for Windows/Linux, but very often they are not and ask prices that (to me) are ridiculous for what they offer. I guess the economics make sense for those developers, but that also means that the Mac user demographic likely keeps this situation intact as enough people are apparently willing to pay too much for very little functionality.
Which makes me grateful for videos like this that show that there are indeed free apps out there that are awesome.
Thank god, its starting to get ridiculous
@@creesch This is what I noticed when I made the switch to Mac, too. The "cost of living" in macOS is much higher.
@@creeschthe most egregious one I’ve seen is an app called Rewind. It records your screen constantly and you can go back in time to see what you did or even search through any text shown on your screen.
The catch? It’s $30/month for 10 rewinds. Just 10. Absolutely wild.
This has been one of the greatest list so far - and I am really impressed because I did watched most of your previous recommendations, and usually will only download maybe 2-3 out of the list. This time has been pretty awesome, downloaded almost all of them!
You never disappoint when you make these kind of videos! I had just discovered Shottr a couple of days ago, but you still showed me features I was not aware of. So much gold in here that I need to watch again and again. Thanks Quinn!
Wow. Out of all the videos I've watched on productivity apps for Mac, this was by far the best. Most of these videos tend to cover the same apps repeatedly and I always skip through trying to find what I'm looking for/never watch the whole thing. This was the first time I actually watched one all the way through without skipping and literally wrote down like every single app to download lol. You showed genuinely helpful apps that I've never heard of before and for stuff that I haven't been able to find the right solution for. & you went into detail and showed us how to use it AND a bunch of different things it can be used for. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and keep up the great content!
i love your content more and more these days. Well thought out and well presented with great production values and most importantly very good advice. This video is much like some of your earlier ones that opened my eyes to alternative apps youcan use and stuff that just makes the cult of mac a little less opaque. I will be getting almost all of htese apps and i loved the delivery and style so keep up the good work
Thank you so much for telling me about Orion! This is just what i have been looking for for years!!!❤
Thank you Mr. Snazzy! You’ve solved most of my current issues with Mac OS (as paid alternatives have gone defunct or been lost to OS and hardware transitions) in a single video. This video was worth my sub to the channel all by itself:-).
This is by far the best "Mac app video" you've made. The editing, pace and your persona is just great. Thank you. :)
Shottr and Dropover is awesome. I purchased the pro version of Dropover immediately. Thanks for the tips Snazzy.
I thought I had a good knowledge of Mac apps but this has opened my eyes to many I didn’t know existed - very useful indeed.
Photo and video apps outside the mainstream Photoshop/Final Cut would also be a really worthwhile.
Many thanks 👍🏻
Dude. Thank you for this video.
I lead a customer support team for a technology company and are literally going to use some of these EVERY DAY.
I’ve been a huge fan of your content for many years, and so appreciate these tips from one Mac power user to another!
Thank you so much for this and many other super useful videos. I really like your content, but your macOS Apps/Tips kind of videos are simply in a league of their own. In this Tech CZcams era there is a lot of quality content out there BUT you continue to impress me with different cool topics, your approach to them and your pleasant style of presenting it all to us! I've been using macOS for the last 20 years and I am constantly on the lookout for some great new macOS apps.. paid or free.. so seeing a video with some free new apps that can be useful is something that very rarely can surprise me. And even if it does, I would download an app or two, not more. I downloaded most of the apps you listed in the video and I am very happy with them :). Thank you very much and as always stay snazzy! :D
This is such a dope video. Exponentially improved my workflow. Thank you!
Orion for the Win, Quinn this is the best application you have recommended. Finally I have icons and text on my bookmark bar. I finished watching your vid in Orion - this is just awsome, all these tools I do use capture quite a bit on my work machine (writing documentation) so I will give Shotr a go as well. Will look at the other tools as well, thanks for putting this together!!
quinn this was an absolutely incredible video. thx so much for posting :) usually the "best mac app" videos are full of stuff i already have. i can always count on you to find absolutely incredible free apps that are actually useful. content is absolutely amazing as always :)
Thanks for the useful recommendations! I went through some lists of free/open source apps when I just got my mac, only to find out that most videos on youtube only recommend the obvious choices that I'd already installed by that point. So thanks a lot for your research! :)
Snazzy never disappoints. Never.

In Snazzy we trust 🙏
Yes he does
For the first time in the "FREE APPS SHOWCASE" world, I am actually downloading more than one tool. These are so useful. Thanks a lot. Stay Snazzy.
First time viewer and subscriber, and this was incredible. The one question I have is what program do you use for filming where your Picture in Picture video was changing size etc. That looked incredibly professional and engaging. Thank you
Oh my gosh, this video was absolutely amazing! Your way of explaining things is both entertaining and informative. I was completely engrossed, eagerly soaking up all the knowledge you were sharing. This video was truly outstanding, my friend!
excellent tips! 👏😎
Just downloaded shottr and one of the best features, in my opinion, is control + option + cmd + O (default shortcut) which lets you perform the same action as taking a screenshot over a text or QR code and it copies the detected data in your clipboard.
Oh wow! Didn’t even know about this!
Great video mate. That hidden bar is superb. Just discovered your channel and loving the vids.
Velja, the most useful thing you didn't mention is that it allows to open specific links on specific browser profiles, so you can open work-related URLs on the work profile automatically
thanks.. similar to velja, for iOS, any app or trick to use youtube links in any browser like orion/edge/chrome/firefox INSTEAD of CZcams app?
Wow props I really like Orion it's everything I wish safari would be with more customizations and extensions. I would like to see compact tab bars, but it's not there maybe in a future update. Thanks for the video very informative stuff!
Thank You, Great video as a new Mac user I am feeling overwhelmed and a little bit lost, but recently I have found your channels and a lot of stuff is starting to change. Again thanks for making great content.
Cheers
Dang, like a lot of people I watch too many of these ‘free add-ins’ videos. But this was great. Lots of great solutions to organisational problems, with lively but always on-point intros. Many thanks. Subbed

Dropzone is better than dropover

That's already in the video description.
Man IM LOVING the freebies. Especially raycast I just couldn't get into alfred but now I have something I like more than spotlight. Shottr as well absolutely insane especially for me as I screen shot multiple times a day. Dropover is once again amazing. Orion HOLY love the speed and feel of safari but man the add ons in Firefox is just better imo. Now I have both in one app. Imo this video had better apps than your other videos (not a bash just rather a compliment to this video). I have never watched a video and downloaded this many apps that I truly expect to stay on my Mac forever. I don't mind paying for apps I JUST HATE this subscription model.
I wonder how long raycast will be free for….
@@makasete30 yea I'm not sold on raycast. It does a lot of cool stuff but nothing that Alfred couldn't adopt. The latter has been developing for many many years and they have a clear business model. I am however happy that there is some new competition in this Spotlight-on-crack space.
Man, you are awesome! Loved the video, your humour and, of course, the incredible app selection. Downloaded them all. Kudos!
This is an awesome video, I love Later and Shottr. I've also downloaded Raycast, I'll check it out when I have a little free time this week. I use Alford by it's been acting up, so I've reverted back to Spotlight as my go to. I"ll see what Raycast fits into my day-to-day usage. Thanks for sharing.
I am super glad that I found you, I am a Windows user for years now and I have hardly spent time with macOS and I always had this misconception thinking that I have to pay for all these nick nack softwares to get a better experience and manage Macos which is completely free if I am using Windows. But your suggestions make me think that it isn't going to be that hard to switch. Thanks a lot mate, this video was an eye opener for me.
As a developer I already know I will love Raycast (7:07) as there are already so many Extensions that tap into so many corners of what I do daily. Also love the Keyboard-Based navigation it uses. I have found out about it through this video about 2h ago and am still setting it up with all the stuff I want and it feels absolutely great 😂
Yeah...us developers really love the keyboard navigation.
I actually dowloaded like half the stuff you recommended. First video with a good list of apps. Thanks mate.
Really enjoying these videos, love how you feel so down to earth and explanations are practical.
Oh my god you're a lifesaver. I have an HP gaming monitor which even at lowest brightness, is really bright for nights. I am in love with the Quickshade. Thanks a lot!!!!!
I would certainly include "DaVinci Resolve". It's has a free version and does Cinema Camera Editor, Color Grading, Audio Editing, 3D Editing, AV Database and renders out to suit most platforms on the web, all in one program.
Man this is probably one of the most valuable episodes for Mac that I've ever seen. You have won another subscriber.
Fantastic video (as usual). Dropover and ImageOptim are now on my Mac. Thank you so much 🙏
The Shottr one was so useful, its basically windows native tool for screenshots. Big thank you!!
What's wrong with Shift+Cmd+4 tho?

This was absolutely amazing - loads of new stuff! I really think these software-focused videos are an area, where you excel. Would love to hear more on email alternatives til Apple Mail.
I recommend Spark! Lots of great features, and it looks good too!
This is the first video in ages that actually helped me. Kudos!
Your video has been very helpful and fun to watch! =) My favorites are Shottr and CopyClip!
wow gotta admit, after a while i just started believing that continuing to watch these videos just becomes reduntant, but goddam, so many gems in here, this is great.
2 i use daily are:
- rectangle, which allows you to send the selected app to another screen, or another position within the same screen, all with keyboard shortcuts. a must for at least people with multiple screens, but great overall
- fluor, which allows to bypass the FN keys (volume, etc.), for a specific program only. great when using software that uses FN keys for shortcuts, but when wanting to use the keys as intended otherwise (hope i explained this well enough)
Never heard about Orion. As a Safari user, I will give it a try.
I always find a new app to use in your videos. Thanks for Shottr this time!
Awesome video. These apps you highlight really make my Mac experience better.
I liked Orion a lot but I'm trying ARC right now and I really like it so far. Would love to see you review it.
I’ll have to check it out!
@@snazzy Good luck getting an invite!
@@thisisayushpandey I'm assuming they have some sort of line-jumping mechanism for reviewers. If not Quinn can hit me up and I can invite him. I still have an invite left 😁
@@StuartGelin( I'll rather hit you up and get the invite myself lol)
@@snazzy Arc is amazing, you should really try it out.
19:30 There's a better alternative for *true* screen brightness control called MonitorControl. MonitorControl supports Display Data Channel (DDC) in addition to software dimming. Works like a charm. Maybe something to include in your next "macOS free apps you should be using" video?
Cheers :)
MonitorControl is so good, big vouch
Came here to say this
Yes, MonitorControl is a much better option and it's 100% free too!
Flux is the winner
@@ghost-user559 Flux is a product of a different category. It does not support hardware manipulation via DDC.
Thankssss. I'm currently using windows because of my job, but when i return to mac i'll for sure revisit this video and download almost all the apps, amazing quinn, as always.
Thanks for the suggestions! FYI the Hand Mirror link in your description didn't work, for some reason. Super helpful info-I appreciate it!
Orion is AMAZING!! I found it a little while ago, and I love it, can't wait till they bring it to Windows as they've planned for the future, so I can completely get rid of Chrome! Now OnyX on the other hand, I haven't heard of them In so long, I hear more about Clean My MacX more than anything.
Wish the tab layout/look was like Firefox/chrome because I feel like safari looks weird
i just installed Orion to try it out and its incredibly slow and laggy. unusable for me tbh. im on a 2018 intel MBP, maybe its only usable for people on apple silicon? or maybe its because im on Big Sur still. either way its awful currently.
@@vvvictoriav5958 I agree
@@vvvictoriav5958 Super smooth for me. Running on m1 currently
@@Ankazarwarrior yeah I updated to Monterey as I’ve been meaning to for ages, and its still totally unusable. So looks like it’s really only optimised for m1 and up
Awesome apps. I like how you just stare at us for a second after the end of each app. 😂
Great video as always Quinn! So helpful to find all these FREE utilities!
i like to think of myself as pretty good at finding apps like these, and yet like 6 of them i did not know, so thank you! Thank you for making videos that are actually useful and not just the same as others. I love your channel.
I don't think QuickShade works like that, because the mouse pointer stays the same. I think it uses an accessibility API, or it changes the colour profile.
Also, what Mail client do you suggest, that also has an iOS client and supports handoff etc. ?
Would also like to know about the Mail client
hey how do you get the temps, voltage, etc reading at the top bar? Thanks

This vid popped up on recommended for me. Being quite the nerd, I rarely find anything new from these types of vids but Dropover was an instant install / buy and Hidden Bar was an awesome replacement for my old copy of Bartender. Thank you sir!
Man, I just started using a mac, and the apps you're talking about in this video are so useful! I appreciate your work!
Literally just got a new M2 MacBook Air. Snazzy, the Lord has impecable timing😂.
I'm having trouble finding if Orion is open source, the application being source viewable or open source is a must for me.
It's not. Their stance is that, open source == safe
@@encyclopediablender I’ll continue using Firefox.
Lol, it's really cute how sweet you are freaking out over the shottr features 😂 I like nerdy stuff as well and some of the features are cool, but I litterally don't know where I should use any of those apps. 🤷🏼♀ But it was fun watching you 👍🏻
Heard of and use a fair bit of the apps mentioned, but cheers for mentioning Later and Orion browser adding them right now!
My two favorites are Cron and Notion. Talk about a dynamic duo. They are amazing.
What do they do?
@@Kami_YT Notion is a super powerful note taking app and Cron is a calendar app
@@neekster28Better then floating notes?
@@Kami_YT I haven't used floating notes, but Notion offers SO MUCH functionality. The database feature is especially helpful for me.
@@neekster28 I might have to check it out, floating notes is just a small floating note you can copy and paste that is just there with like 4 colour options and it's very basic, but done well. Do you have a link to Notion?

Shottr is a godsend, thanks for the rec!
Thank you! Love your presentation style and personality. Some of those look awesome gonna have to check ‘em out.
The Later app is kind of redundant seeing as MacOS already allows you to create new desktops for different purposes.
I thought the same thing
Currently, the Later app is not allowed to run; something popped up about not being able to check for malicious code.
You've probably just put Shottr on the target for Apple acquisition if it isn't already with this review.
Something like Hidden Bar should also be integrated into MacOS (perhaps a wee bit more compact).
I'm not even a quarter of the way through and this is the best list of this nature I've ever seen... such a simple presentation of such useful utilities: thanks!
Absolutely lost it being called a “cutie patootie” so out of pocket I can’t stop laughing
Dropover is not free..
One of the best Mac tip videos I have seen. Thank you. Shared with the whole company!!
Hands down the most useful video I've watched these several months. Thanks always for the quality content!
Love ur videos, even though I have setup subscriptions already, I still found many of the apps useful! Thanks for the tip!
This is my favorite video of this series - very well done!
I've seen a lot of these types of videos, but this is the best by far. Downloaded most of these apps. Top class video
Been watching the channel since before you left for you missions many years ago. Still love the content :) keep it up and stay snazzy!
I love these videos and I’ve watched all of your past Mac apps videos 🥰 BTW what microphone are you using?
Thank you Quinn. installed a few of these which says a lot about the quality of what you post. most times I go meh and don't install anything!
i've had different macs my whole life. always complained about how inefficient some stuff is. didn't know powerful tools like these existed. thanks for this vid! gonna install most of them now.
this videos was well done and showed some useful apps, some of which I’m downloading. Thanks for the quality video snazzylabs
You do these every so often, and I always, always get something out of them. Thanks! I.l be adopting a bunch of theses 🤩
Oh man, great apps (I didn't know the most), some are wonderful! It's been a pleasure see your video until the end. Thanks! Bravo!
Man. Awesome video! Shottr 🤯
Great video. Love the "Dropzone, ooops no, Dropover" gaff at 7:02 I'm already using Dropzone because of one of your earlier recommendation, but might switch.
this is one of the best videos of all time, great job! downloaded 60% of the apps suggested :D

This is an awesome selection of apps! I actually downloaded some of them because they're really useful. Thanks a lot!
Some this got me really excited! Great video. I’m off to download
Brooo, I love your energy!!! It is hard nowadays to find CZcamsrs that really like what they do beside the money!!!! Keep it up !!!!!
I haven't used Onyx in quite a while, but back in the day it was one of the first things I would install on a new Mac. I am glad you mentioned this one, I need to go grab it again.
Like someone else said, the first time i see a video of mac apps (and i've seen a lot of them) and i download and find interesting and useful more than 5 apps xD what a great job you did on this video and i love the way you talk and explain things!
I got Later, Dropover, Copy Clip, Hidden Bar and Hand Mirror. Thanks for this video! Additionally, for window management I would really recommend rectangle. Can't live without it on Mac.
This is a great list! Some really useful little tools here-especially hidden bar, which actually makes it practical to run this many background utilities!
I've been using Shottr since this video came out, and it's definitely a game changer. I have to take a lot of screenshots for my Linux class and this makes it so easy to copy and paste the images into my word document. No more speeding to grab the screenshot in the corner of the screen and then drop it into the document. It's amazing!
Glad to hear it!! :)
