  • Wes troubleshoots and repairs the air conditioner on a 1997 Ford F-150. This truck has a broken blend door that requires replacement which entails pulling the dashboard and steering column. The part cost only $50 but it would cost a lot more to pay a mechanic to do the job.
    Welcome to “The Stanley Way” channel where we will cover just about every project that a typical American family will encounter. This is not a “pro how to” channel, just an ordinary guy videoing his own projects.
    Current and future projects include converting two bedrooms and a bath into a movie theater, installing a hybrid water heater, cleaning and painting the garage floor, building a mega shed, Kiwico projects, installing a hybrid solar panel system and many auto repairs.
    We will also post videos of various DIY science projects, mountain bike rides, and whatever else we like to do.
    You may learn something, you may not, but somewhere along the line you will probably laugh as Wes documents even his most embarrassing mistakes.

      Backed up evap case or not , I was not paying a mechanic 1000$ just because he said the dash “ had “ to come out. The door needs to
      Be trimmed a little bit yes even the bottom hinge part. I just did the yesterday and I have hot heat and ice cold air. The dash doesn’t have to come out and the door is 35$ at oreilys.

    My vacuum line is broken near the firewall. I believe it is the one that connects to what I believe is the mode actuator. The hose shown in 19:20 of the video. Is there a way to access this hose to change it out completely without pulling the dash apart?

    • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před 23 dny +1

      Did you mean 9:20? If so in order to replace the entire line I think you will have to pull the dash. But there is no need to replace the whole line if you see where it is broken. You can buy a rubber coupling that fits over the plastic vacuum lines. You can slip it over the broken portion and then add new lines as needed.

    • @TheKevinChaz

    • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před 11 měsíci

      I don’t know what else it could be if the vacuum system is good. There is a vacuum reservoir on the right side firewall that could be cracked. I would check that, the engine compartment vacuum lines, and the lines behind the glove box.
      Sorry I can’t be more help but maybe check the vacuum system again. Vacuum leaks can be very elusive. Check during idle also, sometimes you can hear the sucking noise and as you run your hand around the area, the noise will change leading you to the leak.

    • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před rokem +1

      I don’t think it has one, I didn’t see one during this job and I have removed the dash on this model F-150 and Expeditions many times. I have never removed a dash for a cabin filter. There is always some type access. I am pretty sure there is no cabin filter.

      @@TheStanleyWay thank you for that information. I believe the same I think they didn't add cabin air filter til 99. That's what Google says. • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před rokem +1

      @@josegovea7123 you probably have a bunch of leaves, dust, or dirt clogging the evaporator coil and this has also clogged up your drain. If you see on the video the evaporator is enclosed in a plastic box and there is a drain that comes out by the firewall. Make sure this drain is clear and you can also try to clean out the evaporator with water. There are a few videos on CZcams showing that. Try that first.

      @TheStanleyWay I wish, I cant even remove the left panel, but at bottom, I can see the actuator hanging from the connector, so what I did was to replace it, leave it hanging and turn the hot air on and off to see if it moves, and it doesn't. so, if i’m getting heat. but not cold. there’s a chance that it’s just the door itself not able to switch to cold because the door is broken? i verified that the switch is rotating. but i’m not sure if it’s broken like yours. so i’m thinking maybe my door is also broken.

    • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před rokem

      You are correct, it very well could be this door. This particular truck the owner thought he had no A/C. Turns out the A/C worked great it was just the blend door stuck on heat and heat will always over power the A/C.

    • @TheStanleyWay
      @TheStanleyWay  Před 6 měsíci

      @kaylahowell7696 no heat could be this same problem. Find the coolant hoses in the engine compartment that go through the firewall and into the cab. Once the engine is warmed up, touch both hoses to see if they are warm. If they are warm and you have no heat it is probably the blend door. If they aren’t warm you could be low on coolant or have a blockage that doesn’t allow coolant into the heater core.
