  • Hello and welcome to my channel. This DIY channel is dedicated to the Overlanding Build of my 3rd Gen 2016-2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. I hope you follow me through the entire build experience and I hope that somewhere along the way, I can help you in some level - and that we can learn from each other. Please be a Tacoma-buddy and hit the subscribe and notification bell buttons, cheers!
You've heard about pick-up truck tailgates being stolen. To deter an alleviate this, here's a short video tutorial on how to install an inexpensive tailgate lock on a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro (3rd Gen Tacoma) to deter thieves from driving away with your tailgate.
TIP (by one of my viewers @Grove Tucky) as some people are having a lot of trouble removing the T40 screws: It's easier to remove the factory bolt if you remove the tailgate. Just unhook the cable, open the tailgate to about 45 degrees and lift. Rest it on a towel on your bumper. Hit the bolt 3 or 4 times with a punch. Removal of some of the corner seam sealant using a blade maybe required (as it maybe too thick for the lock bracket to fit).
To purchase this (and shout out to Christian06 of TacomaWorld.com!):
    1. Become a member on Tacomaworld.com (create a user profile)
    2. Send money PayPal: bugdoctorchris@hotmail.com
    3. In the notes, provide:
    - your name
    - shipping address
    - your Tacoma generation
    - your TacomaWorld username
Price: 3rd gens are US$25, T45 tamper proof screw US$3.50 (optional)
I hope you find this helpful, please hit the subscribe and like buttons.
Thanks and until the next video!

I just installed mine yesterday and wanted to add a couple of pieces of advice. It's easier to remove the factory bolt if you remove the tailgate. Just unhook the cable, open the tailgate to about 45 deg. and lift. Rest it on a towel on your bumper. Some people are having a lot of trouble removing the Torx bolt. Take a punch and hit the bolt 3 or 4 times helps. I had to remove some of the seam sealant from the corner. It was just too thick for the bracket to fit. I used a razor blade to shave it off. Upon installation, I used a 5/16" wrench to turn the tamper-proof Torx that I bought with the kit. I hope this helps. Great video by the way.

Hi H M, sorry, I thought I responded to you already and my comment maybe a moot point now but at any rate, yes it is a challenge to remove that screw out. I had to assemble a tool using a small ratcheting wrench, a bit extender and a T40 bit (see 1:15 mark in video) to loosen it up you can grab and turn it by using a pair of pliers to further loosen and remove it fully.

Loosen the bolt just enough until you can use a pair of pliers to slowly rotate the bolt head until it's out.
