    Please note that in the “SR/SX” model Tacoma’s, 2020 at least, there is no wire harness from the passengers side front to rear. I had to improvise by running the harness inside the frame rail and ty wrapping it thru the holes in the frame. I did this by placing a fiberglass rod on the outside of the frame rail and ty wrapping to it, thru the hole. Other than that the plug and play OEM harness is simple to install as you show in your video. The OEM part number for 2020 is PK3B6-35JS0.
    PS: mine is a 2020 Tacoma access cab with the 6’2” box.

    • @tomgregory5814
      @tomgregory5814 Před 3 lety +1

      The video is good relative to the installation. I just routed the harness inside the frame rail rather than in top as noted above. I also didn’t use the metal ties as shown as they aren’t as flexible as the regular ties and are further away from the heat inside the rail. So far no problems. Let me know if you have questions.

    • @tomgregory5814
      @tomgregory5814 Před 6 měsíci

      Unfortunately I totaled my 2020. Luckily I got a great settlement from my insurance company and replaced it with a 2023 SR. It too has no wire harness on the passenger side, so will be installing the harness in the same manner as the 2020.

    That you for this! I installed the factory kit using the instructions and help from your video. Routing near the exhaust was the most time consuming but it was otherwise smooth and easy. I bought the recommended 3M sealer ($30 tube) and used about a pencil eraser amount of it; in retrospect it was unnecessary to use the 3M seal. An zip tie or piece of duct tape in the same spot would accomplish the same and save $30. Anyway, that you for the instruction!

    You’re a better man than I.... you said it took you one hour. I just finished up and took me three hours exactly. Three things I can suggest to people that are going to do this :
    1. Print the instructions in color. The black-and-white instructions are crap you cannot see what they are talking about.
    2. Unplug the camera wire at the tailgate and bring it through, it makes it much easier to put the new body clips on the wire.
    3. The orientation for the new clips: the springy tabs face to the left (facing front of truck) on the body and the tailgate when clipping them in. The groove on the right hand side of the holes is meant for that little tab on the wire holders.
    And just an interesting note.... I never noticed that the truck has a "hood ajar" signal. I noticed this when I tried to test lock the tailgate and my hood was up.

    I just installed this kit. I could see that I needed more clearance to fit the wire protectors at the tailgate and the bed. I rigged a small platform with a piece of plywood and a bench. The plywood rested on the bumper and the bench. I partially removed the tailgate on the passenger side, angled it rearward several inches, and laid it on the platform. The extra three inches of space made this part of the job much easier.

    Great guide for this install. Thank you for the time and effort you put into it. I have a 2016 OR and everything was exactly like you demonstrate in the video except for one thing. The body plug on my truck had some wiring running through it already with a rubber seal. I had to improvise here. I made a small hole in the seal and ran my wiring harness through it. I applied some silicone around the area where I made the hole to seal it from moisture. Only other thing I would say, as many others have also commented, would be that the music added NOTHING to this video. When youre pausing and going back throughout the install the music is unbearable. Cheers

Additionally, an employee at our dealership said that you can't have both the power tailgate lock and the bed lighting kit. He said we will need to chose one or the other. That makes no sense to me as they don't appear to be related or wired in proximity to each other. Can you clear that up for me? Great video! That same body plug on my 2021 Pro has wires coming from it so I guess I’ll have to pick a different spot.

    Is it the same kit and installation as 2022 Toyota Tacoma OFF ROAD? Also, my truck is manual transmission (no key fob, just the regular key with remote door lock/unlock). It is my very first truck and I’m novice about trucks and still learning. U

      Not sure if you pulled the trigger on it but it's the same install process. I just finished it on my manual tacoma. You just gotta buy the right part (long bed or short bed).

    I just did this. Before you remove the factory clips, note which way it is inserted. The hardest part was these clips, they were a very tight squeeze.

    I have a 2020 TRD OR and while some of this works fine there is already a wire going thru the grommet under the seat. How is this resolved? Cutting into one of them?

    • @Rybay
      @Rybay Před 2 lety

      I just cut the one off that came already on the wire and then cut the side of the one already in the truck. I added silicone around it and followed the rest of the video. Took under an hour.

    That was a good video, everything was in focus, and you could see what you were doing there’s one thing that you didn’t explain though. The body plug is there a body plug on that harness? Is it on the wire already?
    And please get rid of the music absolutely horrible, because it doesn’t need to come up that loud in between your talking. We’re not at the discotheque.

      Yes body plug is on the harness that will connect to Vehicle harness.The body harness for the tailgate actuator has a female connector and male connector . as shown at 10:00. so male connector from body wire harness will connect to the vehicle female harness and the male connector that was disconnected will plug in to the body wire harness. Hopefully I answered your questions.
      And music I will try to remove it. Before I thought it will be boring without it 😂

      Great video, you did an excellent job!! Thank you for that. My question is, when you removed the body plug under the front carpet to feed the cable thru, i saw a hole in the body plug at the end. Is the plug with hole came with the part? Thanks👏👏👍👍
