- The snow is out there in the mountains if you go looking for it. The Arctic Cat Alpha rail breaks on us again. But, sometimes, wrecking snowmobiles is part of the sport! We all love to sled, even if we are destroying the snowmachines #whompit

I'm wearin my Ski-Doo T-shirt today you guys
1000 Likes in the FIRST 24 hours unlocks the secret video 🤫
I did my 1/1000th part.
Please don’t go to skidoo. I’d say a majority of your viewers watch for Cat, I know I do!!
Let’s see the old m8 out for a rip
Made it
Time for mighty whitey
Looks like ol whitie is getting going after all
Love seeing both of you gentlemen work the camera. Great work.
That calls for some cheap beer. Also probably the most underrated snowmobile channel. Love all the pre snowmobiling content and content after sledding probably more than the actuall sledding.
You guys certainly keep it real with sledding. Bent Ben we miss you
Really enjoy watching your videos!!
Yea. Definitely enjoyed the outdoor camping with your pops, the semi longish sled trips.
Good job!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks for making them!
So excited love the content matt
🤜🤛
Great videos guys. Matt call the guys at K-Mod. Their skinny rail is SICK. I got a 14 Whitey myself and built my own Alpha skid similar to the K-Mod skid. I love it.
Been a fan for two years now even the trike vids lol lots of support from bonnyville AB bro fyi lots of good parts at the dump zt&bp
Keep up great content!
I have a 19 alpha also. This is a great channel. Some good ol’berta boys showing what man sledding is really like. I think you unloading procedure was a major issue for this failure. Is it much harder to pull the try fold ramp out?
You're right it looks like it got tweaked taking the sled off the truck...
Hey Matt, remember all the years I hauled around that Krazy Carpet. Back a bunch of foothills over we had one of those locked up tracks. The boys ran back to Robb and bummed a aluminum toboggan thingy that they ended up buying.
Both sleds down and the snowbikes are still running? Now that's entertainment :D
Faaack. Well your not the only one with cat carnage, I busted my oil tank wide open in the back country! Stole a bit of oil of a couple buds, threw it in tank to mix the gas get me back to the truck
Whatever ya gotta do! 🤣
so sorry for your trip but way to stay positive. still whomp it !!!
Love your videos guys, all do respect but man I am glad I run skidoos.
Come on man! Damn! Good on you for keeping a level head man I would have been loosing my mind lol
No way those zips worked ! Good shit guys
I rode a 1100 turbo for years. It was fun but unreliable... Switched to a 850 backcountry... Best decision I could of made... Those ski doos rip!!!
thanks for doing the research for the rest of us. now i know what needs to be reinforced.
maybe changing the rivets with some bolts will be enough🤔
love the vids keep up the great work
I'll keep up the research 🖖🏻
pin'd omega railbrace, or switch to twin rail iceage bomber rails. I don't think anyone has broken either of those systems
Poolaris turbo mod sled szn!!!! 🏔️❄️🌨️
I built a twin rail but I'm waiting for a track still. 165s are hard to come by. Want to stick with that pitch I really like it.
Ended up ordering a lynx track
Get 18+ rails, the front arm 14+, link rod 17+
Madparts in Sweden make a brace, that goes from tip to tensioner. Very good part.
Hey Matt! Mabe backing off the truck and having the Alpha land on the TKI wheels helped break it..???
Food for thought....
Such a bummer... those factory skids aren't where they should be. I wonder how like a more recent skid is like from 2023 if any updates? That's getting expensive either way.
I hate to say it (coming from a cat guy), but you should maybe go with a Doo whenever you change sleds in the future... that way Shaun has is Poo, Ben has the Kitty, and you'll have a Doo for a trio. Unless the new Catalyst will meet expectations, that could be something else to look forward to.
I know this is not the time but the only words that come to mind is that ski doo fealing
I have a skid problem all the time! Because your missing 1. Lol.
Is that place hard on alphas, or does the alpha need some additional durability testing?
Still rocking the ABS airbag... where are you getting replacement handles and cartridges..?
I’d assume they are expecting the glue/epoxy they use to hold it together and the rivets just locate it. Cause that doesn’t look like a lot of fasteners for what it’s gotta do. Also do you think the larger wheels with offset axles put more stress on that mount? I think it does as it moves position of the pull further from the rail which creates more leverage on the mount.
You might be right.
But, that's all stock wheel size and mounting. Just aluminum wheels.
@@syxxes oh, thought they were larger. If they are same size as stock I don’t see it adding any additional stress other than it doesn’t give any like the rubber coated wheel does. Unfortunate you’ve had such poor luck. I have an 18’ mountain cat and I really do love the sled. Want to go newer but don’t want an alpha… might have to buy a Polaris… never thought I’d buy a Polaris.
I remember unloading a firecat out of the back of a truck and cracking the bulkhead. Could have been the way it was unloaded especially multiple times stress cracked the rail
Artic cat should use you as the test mule for any and all advances on that rail.
Not sure if you noticed but the tow trucks were Jamie Davis trucks which are on discoveries highway thru hell. 😮
Second time riding my 19 alpha I did this… ripped the tracked in half, busted the chain case and bent the whole rail. I had an idea of putting bolts through to hold it together let me know what you do
Ol whitie engage!!!!!
well damn i liked that alpha, it might just be me but i think that thing runs a little weird at low throttle, sounds kinda like its struggling but it looks like it revs out of it just fine
It does! Cat engine runs a little rich so they like to run on the throttle. They don’t like to coast along.
@@stillburningstrong sounds exactly like the F7s waaaay back in '03 🤣 They don't like to putz!
sounds like its bogging and has a missfire haha
In the last video, i was looking at how flimsy that single rail setup appears. Actually yesterday watching your other video. Somehow, im not shocked that broke. They've eliminated too much stability, it seems. What a bummer man. All the best fixing it up
Hey man. I’m looking into a mountain max or an alpha for my first sled. I’m a big guy and I think I’d have fun throwing my weight around on the single rail. What caused the rail to snap here? That’s my only concern is the rigidity.
I wonder if always backing the sled off your truck without ramps often had anything to do with the rail breaking?
If that's the case it's a shit design. It will encounter much harder stresses in use than that.
When he back it out of pickup it touch the ground very slowly
Thats crazy. Put in some SS 1/4" bolts with nylon nuts
Mighty whitey coming up in the next video? And what was that dude pushing in the McDonald's parking lot?
How long of a truck ride is that trip for you?
Dang, too bad, that will end up being the strongest alpha rail ever built in the end. Do you think not using ramps to unload might cause those three wimpy rivets to break?
I've thought about it. That may have contributed, with that direction of that torque plate.
@@syxxes Could have something to do with the rough trails, and those big idler wheels could be putting some sort of excessive torque on things... but yea just those eedy-beedy rivets holding wasn't doing any good.
It broke because of all of those McDonald’s 😂
Top comment 🤜🤛
Trick for ya if you have to tow. Buy a long ass crazy carpet. Just keep it as part of your regular gear. Have some holes on either side of it and you can strap it around your track. That way the track doesn't have to spin under tow.
Matt you should get a 2018 skid for that alpha..... problem solved?
I love Cat, but I really wished they'd ditch that mono rail. If they offer a twin rail option on the Catalyst, I'd seriously consider buying one.
You need to take a call to some of the black cat's and ask what they do to the skids :P They realy abuse the hell out of the skids and not break :P
Good thinkin!
Grind the aluminum on all contact surfaces with 36 grit rollicking disc.use FUSOR 108B metal glue, and stainless steel rivets. The glue is what we use in the automotive world. Will never break again
Homer Simpson would brilliantly say "doh!"
Did you guys rebuild the wreck sled
Normal Arctic-cant vid. Just like the old days the Polaris riding and the Cat that can't
See Matt now you can twin rail the alpha and cut the old m8 down to a 141 twin rail lol
A single rail has some advantages and some disadvantages. Lol
I’ve said this before but I’m thinking solid one piece billet or carbon fiber is the only way to go with these single rail sleds.
K-mod makes a rear skid called a "skinny" for the alphas, it uses 2 ice age bomber rails mounted a couple inches apart with their suspension arms and hardware, still works with the alpha track. Another good option
Just a thought [ unload drop ?
Drill some holes in there and add some threw bolts
Shawn is a good guy. After all of the abuse he has taken for riding a polaris. Never once heard him badmouth cat.
What part of berta you from
"Whys that guy riding down the highway on a bicycle!?"
Time for the phaser to hit the big mountains....
Have Turbo G5 May have to help you out with for next ride
That's what we call cycles to failure on stiff parts. Little stress fractures over repeated fractures equals catastrophic failure.
When is that Polaris not at the dealer ?
Ik you definitely didn’t have as much fun but the real question here is with how small of a break it was did you save more money on gas and a hotel?😂
That sled has been nothing but trouble. Sell it and cut your losses. Skidoo Freeride is the sled your seeking.
they also break rails lol
Is that the new adjustable track length alpha!? 🤦
Brand new, this year!!
@@syxxes well now we know the next bmp upgrade 🤣🤦
Stock or walk
How does a new machine just break with normal riding.
A lot of the time, those whooped out trails are the hardest part of the day on the sleds. That's where Shaun keeps blowing shocks! Always the trail! lol
@@syxxes I restore old sleds and I rarely ever get a broken one in. I hate that new sleds are built so cheap, but cost more. Great videos, keep up the good work!!!
they build these new machines with cutting edge tech but no structural engineering
I swear 90% of these rail problems are on 19-20’s not sure if something is weird with those years “other then the through bolt” but it’s weird these years keep breaking and don’t see many 21+ with broken rails in these “weird” scenarios
And that's why you don't see arctic cats/Yamahas on the mountain.
Get it welded.
I was wondering about the reliability of that single rail…..
get some odi clamp on grips for next time
So glad I didn’t buy a alpha😅 these videos be popping up everywhere
I just hear and see Canadian and Irish 😶🌫️
Taking it out of the truck may have done that?
Those guys looks sooo tired, I mean, even the equipment give up given how low the energy level is.
2 are better than 1
Imagine if that happened in a bowl with 3ft of powder. little bit of bad and good luck at the same time
I'm amazed that you still put up with that skid after all of the problems you've had. Your videos have single handedly convinced me to stay away from the alpha.
I'm just like Shauna and his shocks. lol
I'm surprised airlines there isn't a single McGivor in your group... Those long zip ties would be a splendid solution.. just enough to get you back to the truck secure and safe...
Twin rails
3:51 I'm pretty sure I heard a Crack!
i burn thru about 7 gallons a day on my snowbike.
Why do they still make those monorail craps after all those failures hapening with this monorail heh, make it stronger !
it wanted to be a short track that day is all
The best way to not get let down by an arctic cat is to buy a doo and just ride instead.
Unloading from truck like that will do that. Poolaris turbo mod sled time!!!!
Nah,
@@rodirby5952 you'll see.
:(
but great entertainment for me
U can only beat the shit out of it for so long before it gives up .
At 973 come on sled heads hit that like button 🤘🏻
Should go back to twin rails
Ditch the alpha single rail
Today I blew the track of my firecat f7
Aww! Twinzies! 👍
oh i bet you do have skid problems
Sorry Dude That Sucks
