Houston, just a cool idea for you. Take an aquarium, an all acrylic one would be cleaner looking, but build a base that it can sit on upside down in your new tank but a few inches below the water line of the tank. Then fill the aquarium with some of your ponds water and turn it upside down, still under water, and slide onto the base to hold it. Make sure your base it sits on is open on the bottom and it will give your fish, when you get them, a cool spot actually above the pond to come up into.

Put some Koi fish in there they are beautiful
For the scaping of the pond I recommend getting some more sand for the bottom and a couple rocks and make some sort of cave because of the bass bluegill and catfish also I large log for the turtles in the middle

We used to have a cattle water like that that we used for our kids for a swimming pool we all loved it.
Maybe put an island in the middle so your turdles can get on the island. A big rock with other rocks around it for fish to hide under and step up to the turdle island. You are doing a great job.
Make sure the turtle has basking rocks to be able to get out of the water. They need to be able to dry out and warm themselves in the sun

Sun perch are pretty and stay small. There's several different types of them so you would have options. I figure you could probably catch some with your net/trap at the creek. Good luck with your pond, Houston.

For the island, do a board and set chains or ropes on the bottom, fastened to some rocks. It prevents tipping, and is an easy project!

My wife was furious today when she found out the 4” long nose gar we caught in a dip net ate one of the fish in the little fish tank 😆 hey Houston, do 2 of the most common species for your area...bass, crappie, sand bass, catfish....add some sand/rocks to the bottom and some wood from yalls creek. Can’t wait to see the pool pond series!

You can get dechorinating granules on Amazon for about $20. Called Vanish by Chrystal Clear. It will be useful for water changes. I use it in my koi pond works instantly.

Today my 7 year old brushed his own hair and asked if he looks just like Houston!! It was to cute. I think so the fish you named would be awesome in there!!
We have. 3x6x2’ deep tank buried in the ground next to our back deck with gold fish and shiners in with a waterfall filter and bubbler. We have planted water lilies, arrow plant and a grass in it as well. We use a stock heater during the winter and the fish have survived in this tank for 14+ years.
Years ago neighbors of ours took one of these stock tubs and made it into a pool for their kids so a few years later somebody gave me a 6-ft diameter stock tub the plastic Rubbermaid time and I had an above ground pool kit and I drilled the holes installed the tubing set the pump next to the tank and I had what I called my tubby and it would sit in the sun all day long and when I was done working in the yard I'd get my suit on and go float in it and relax. It lasted a couple years then I got a new one not realizing I would be getting a hot tub after that so I've been trying to sell the newer one no one wants one for their kids
I work at A farm store part time and we sell out of tanks in the summer because of swimming pools. The value is too good until recent inflation. I have an 8’ poly behlen tank that we have in a 10x10 6’ tall dog kennel to keep the little kids out. We’re on a farm so we hit it with chlorine tabs then drain and refill as needed.

I've used galvanized troughs for gold fish and water plants. A healthy dose of duck weed will help to oxygenate the water too and they can eat it as well. It multiplies quickly.
Love it we have the same at my house we have catfish and bream that we caught on the Suwannee river and a few from Malloy swamp love you guys

after the rocks go in as many crawdads as you can catch. they clean the bottom and are fun to watch.
The pump motor and such would fit great in a Rubbermaid tote with vent holes drilled. Also, if you use marine thru hull fittings, the tank can be plumbed a little better. Good luck! Love the channel!

Oh..and the have little solar "lily pad" fountains..they are small and you just lay them on top of the water and it creates a tiny fountain to help aerate the water..and they look cool too

You may need to put a top on to keep the big dogs, etc. out of the tank.
They make the things called dunks I think to keep mosquitoes out of it when there is still water somewhere

We had friends with a fish pond of similar size. The little Turtles ended up climbing up the filter hoses and getting out. They had to put a bowl shaped backing against the side so if they tried they would fall back in and not out. Eventually they changed the pond to a pre-made one. It will be fun to watch yours evolve.

@@cadenfunk413 not necessarily..I live 12 miles from town and always had a well. Then a few years ago, town ran water aaaaall the way to the boonies. Weird we have city water out on the farm. They might be closer to town and have city access.

Being under the tree, are you concerned of a lot of debris falling in the pond? Also, do you have any concern of aerial predators steeling the pond's inhabitants? Installing a mesh/net cover?

I recommend trying to get some sort of metal net to prevent the wildlife from killing the fish enspetialy the gold fish

When my brother and I were kids we caught some catfish minnows in our creek. They were a bit bigger than tadpoles but had whiskers of catfish. So cute.

I wouldn’t recommend keeping bass in the pond. they will try to eat anything smaller then them and grow fast. you’ll end up with a very fat bass with nothing else in the pond. turtles will eat the goldfish too.

You should get him a 410 cause I bet the raccoons are going to find those pretty quick and if he can shoot them while there running away those fish could love another day
Raccoons even caught our mosquito fish which were no longer than an inch or so.
Better put some wire across the top, raccoons will have a picnic out there.
