Better late than never! Still, I apologize for this lateness. Truth be told, I almost wasn't able to get this out today because of a number of housing related issues that thankfully have been resolved. But it did mean that there is no philosopher video today. Once again, my apologies.
Also, more apologies to all those who have so far emailed me via the email given on my channel -- there was some incompetence on my part that has led to the long gap of my not responding to really any of them. I will be trying to do that next week. Sorry about. Sorry sorry sorry. Bleah.
Next week, I will revisit the INFJ, and if all goes well, I will produce a nutshell philosophy video on the infamous Heidegger! See you then.

ISTP care a lot more than you think. They just don’t say it out loud but they’ll show it with their actions.
However, you will need to put efforts in trying to appreciate the way ISTP care though, as they don’t talk about it and do not like talking about it.

this is the first time i’ve heard someone describe the istp as the therapist/psychologist friend. that’s one of the things that makes my relationships so fulfilling, because i enjoy reading people and giving them objective advice when they ask for it. and usually people will just tell me things because i typically don’t judge them for it, so they see it as a way to get it out in the open but also sometimes they need a third person pov which i provide.

Ah yes, ISTP. The actual sister type to the INFJ, the only 2 introverts that operate in their internal world with both Ti and Ni. Carl Jung thought he might be an ISTP (Ti/Se). Of the warrior-monk archetype, the ISTP is the warrior and the INFJ the monk. Developing both, ISTP or the INFJ are both stoic, disciplined and detached.

Superp comparison! I always relate to istps more than any other types as an infj and I often see both types as "monks & worriors" like you mentioned. (Musashi & Takuan dynamics) Both internal & external roles can even be juggled around at times. I would venture to say if one thinks of oneself as an infj but doesn't relate to istps, they're not infjs. Simple as that.

Infj father here with two istp teens. A lot of what has been said here makes sense to me. The father child relationship creates some interesting dynamics. I have to force myself to stop talking/explaining things beyond a certain point otherwise I drive them underground. It is frustrating for me because I just want to resolve things but they can quickly become exhausted by it. When they open up it is often a seemingly unconnected barrage of questions which I never feel I am able to adequately address before the next question is dropped on me. There is a degree of harmony in the relationship and we enjoy each others company a great deal, but it requires a lot of discipline on my part and I can often get exhausted by their need for large amounts of sensory entertainment/experience. It has helped me to balance some of my own traits and I can see how both types can be complementary, but it does take consistent effort and mutual appreciation for that to work.

Having an ISTP friend is the most underrated thing in the world. If I ever need someone to be straight with me I know I can trust them to give me an honest perspective. I completely second your observation about the ISTP being the INFJs only therapist. As an INFJ, my ISTP friend is the only person I have ever felt an uncontrollable compulsion to share my inner world with, and one of the only people whose opinion I trust blindly, because she cannot speak less than the full truth. In some sense, she is the only person I feel like I can actually talk to like a normal person.

@Andy Dodds I don't have any specific suggestions for you, but I can give you some qualities of abilities that might fit ISTPs. Their abilities should be something that directly affects the world around them and maybe even have a combat element to then. It should be something that is heavily skill based and slowly developed because it requires practice to master. Once mastered, their abilities can be incredibly effective. However, if you want to build a weakness, that would be when they become emotional, their abilities can become unstable or destructive until they learn to master that part of themselves. Hope this helps give you some ideas.

    • @VTdarkangel
      @VTdarkangel Před 5 lety +1

@Andy Dodds That could work. I would add that they can develop a level of skill with whatever ability they are practicing that it can surprising and somewhat threatening to those who have it naturally. However, they can't do that with all the other types' abilities at the same time. They can only be a master 1 or 2 at a time.

This is fascinating to me. I am an INFP who was married to an ISTP. I also dated two other ISTPs, one for over two years and the other for about six months. It's really amazing to me how the S is for stupid, sort of stereotypes got going. My guess is, because ISTPs aren't all that common compared to some of the SJ types, and people who really dig deep into personality and typology do tend to be intuitive types, people assume that they are INTPs when interacting with them. I personally always assumed that they were introverted feeling types, because they were loving and caring without being overly emotional about it. In other words, I thought that they were like me, haha! They actually were all very emotionally demonstrative, but very privately so. Anyway, they are really my cup of tea. I just keep falling for them. Genuine, provocative, insightful, fun and interesting people that they are. Also, they dont talk when there's nothing to say and leave you alone mostly. I love him and find his blunt and cool demeanour very cute. He's so tough he didn't cry when he had stitches and he quietly observes everything and is a bit quirky, gets embarrassed about things others don't care about and cares a lot about things not being seemingly fair to him at times. He has observed others and taught himself to stand up on a surfboard and can drop into the bowl at the skate park after only a few tries. He's very observant and this helps me to understand I need to be more careful in some ways and try to narrow things down directly and simply and logically. Oh my goodness, the flitting eyes taking everything in LOL. True!
I'm interested in learning how to effectively discipline, teach and guide my lil istp, and what thibgs istp's view as important and priorities due to their cog functions.

My mom use to send me to my room as punishment but I loved it. I think I would have benefited more by getting an explanation. If I already knew it was wrong and did it anyways, then a spanking. I know most people think that’s wrong but I don’t. Also of course real world punishment. Meaning if they throw milk on their sibling, they need to apologize and clean up the mess. If they break something, they need to repair it.
I always did poorly in school. Not because I disliked learning but because I wanted to learn every aspect of everything and that’s just not how schools work. There’s not enough time for that. Second off, when he tests his ti theories on you it is because he loves you and wants to share them with you. I do this with my mom but one time when I was explaining my rationality to her, I had the realization that she was using me to feed her ne, in other words my idea was only interesting to her because it was a cool thought experiment, she was not going to be convinced of anything nor was she going to use it herself. I felt cheated and tried to avoid talking with her for several months. We (istps) consider interactions to be experiments; gathering data for how to live our lives. Because suppose ,if we want them to appreciate us for what we are and what we are doing, we have to let them into our lives and let them see what we are doing and share our process with them, include them as much as you can...so that, when we finally accomplish things, we won't be going upto them after a month of being isolated...and say ,yo I did this and this...and they won't be excited as we are, and Fe will be hurt. We'll be like meh, people don't appreciate my value....when instead, if we let them in our lives, sometimes, their understanding of our accomplishments or knowledge would be on a deeper level.
I ,of course, am still working on this myself.... but I think, accepting that we need to let people in our lives and live with them, be there for them when they need help, even emotional help, is a first step.

I like how you avoided stereotypes and gave a comprehensive overview of the deep nature ISTP can possess. While many of them I've seen on Reddit, for instance, are rather immature in their personal development, those kinds of people didn't skew your interpretation thankfully.

Like the way that I show not to really care about other people which weardily makes people feel comfortable and be able to unload their thoughts, or ideas on me, good or bad.
Oh and also I have made people be offended by saying the word "homosexual" when referring to homosexuals, instead of using the work "gay". Or saying that "transexual women" are men, even with surgery and injected hormones are still male and not women. But it's great when they get mad because I immediately know who I have to cut off completely. I will not entertain these ideas.

Thank you again Michael Pierce. I've been brought here from the revisiting INFJ video. Interestingly, what you describe here is what I do. I start from facts or what we all can see and then dive below to understand how it all works. I see or rather look for the stuff other people don't see. I think I am an INFJ and understand Ni as starting from facts or the appearance of facts on the surface and diving deeper and deeper until I feel I know what is going on ultimately with this or that aspect of reality. What results eventually seems like more facts and is just 'what it is' as you put it. It becomes another aspect of reality now better seen. I also find it impossible to accept concepts that I have not thought through and synthesised with the rest of my understanding for myself. How much of this do you think is just an aspect of Se working with Ni as opposed to having Se leading Ni? How does the Ti independence show up in an INFJ differently than a Ti Dom?

I'm struggling so hard to figure out if I'm an ISTP or INFJ, as you briefly touched on in this video. C. S. Joseph teaches that the ISTP aspires through Fe to be the ENFJ and often appears to be an INFJ as the introverted/extroverted switch can be difficult. The INFJ then aspires through Se to be the ESTP and often appears to be an ISTP as the introverted/extroverted switch can be difficult.
I've always been naturally gifted with the physical world - sports, hand-eye coordination, art, mechanics, etc, but in my childhood I would also often criticize others for irresponsible and immoral behavior, such as drug use, promiscuity, etc. I have religious faith, and I neglect my health often when I'm on a roll and finishing projects. When it comes to maintenance, I fix everything on my car and in my house on my own, and my career is working as an engineer. But, all of my passions are sensory and art-related, being making and releasing new music CDs or shooting photography. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to Se and I'm confident in my work.. that is until I have to give a presentation live and in front of an audience, and that's where all my anxiety comes out.

  • @davidmadisontheguardian

I'd like to add here, that my short bit of research on just a few types, shows me that this is MUCH MORE COMPLEX than what I had originally thought. And it excites me. Anytime my assumptions are proven wrong... I tend to get excited; because it means I've stumbled upon a gold mine; and I only need to dig further to come away with some tremendous insight which I'd very much like to apply as quickly as possible to my other ideas that I got from either contemplation or from the other rabbit holes I went down.
One such rabbit hole has been the idea that perception not only passively observes and interprets some 'objective' reality; but actually MOLDS it in the process of doing so.
I'm caught between the validity of my limited experience and the validity of thousands upon thousands of minds greater than mine who have spent years upon the same subject; and yet have not come up with my conclusions.
So, since I like paradoxes; or rather I like to solve them or bring them into harmony with one another... I've been thinking about the nature of consciousness; and how science has amputated many of its own limbs in the search to be more empirical.
You see, logic can tell us in what ways the variables that we think we know, can interrelate; but it cannot do the same with the variables that we have yet to discover. For instance, scientists run the exact same experiment hundreds of times, using many different scientists in their own labs all across the globe. And yet, one time, something DRASTICALLY different occurs. And they find out that a NEUTRINO that usually passes through most of the densest matter on earth; didn't this ONE time.
So, the scientists thought they accounted for all the variables, sealed them in a box where nothing could get in or out; and then suddenly, something PASSES THROUGH.
This can be likened to CONSCIOUSNESS. I have found that the simplest variant of a degree of consciousness on my part, or collection of primary brainwaves; and my Telekinetic abilities simply disappear. This is why patience is required; and why I believe that Telekinesis is still looked at as super fringe science or even pseudo science; because the conditions of the lab do not completely mimic the conditions of the outer world which allows one hours on end of time to SETTLE INTO, OR FEEL FOR THE EXACT BANDWIDTH OF FREQUENCIES NEEDED TO MOVE A PARTICULAR OBJECT and NOT ANOTHER.
CONSCIOUSNESS IS THE VARIABLE that scientists are missing. And other forms of energy, such as Chi, which the most refined devices cannot seem to detect.
I don't know if this makes me an INFJ, an INTP, an INTJ, an INFP, an ENFP... or WHAT; but I do seem to relate to a lot of what you talked about in this video concerning the ISTP.

Is our brain wired in such a way we end up here regardless or do life events
(traumatic or not) cause us to become who we have become?

  • @davidmadisontheguardian

I practice Telekinesis, which requires a super high level of awareness both internal and external. It combines, in my opinion, the concrete sequential and the abstract random. It requires almost a blind faith to get started; but as one goes along, one must constantly keep the conscious and the subconscious mind talking to one another.
For me it is a gateway to much higher abilities; and when I was a kid I decided that I wanted to be a grandmaster in the martial arts. But I knew that being good and even great was not good enough... there was this IT quality that you often hear about on shows like American Idol or Brittan's Got Talent or The Voice; but the IT quality cannot be canceled by outside judgements of its effectiveness.
The IT quality seems to comprise multiple things that come together in the right proportions. Having to do with a person's DRIVE and level of intensity, their insight, their spiritual attunement, their past life? experience, their genetics, the time of their birth and the circumstances that helped to forge the path; because a soul does not act in a vacuum; but rather, the environment works just as much on the organism as the organism works on the environment.
My hope is that once I am good enough, I can impart what I know, teaching skills that will open doors that were once thought forever locked to a human being.
For instance, through my own practice; but not having studied for this under a master, I learned that I could bring my own body from a state of bone cold while outside in the snow, to comfortably warm; and yet... as I said... I did not follow anyone else's path to discover this. It was simply a by product of my intensive and consistent study for several years of the paranormal; and not only study; but PRACTICE, constantly having to use my imagination to overcome obstacles that presented themselves along the way.
I would set a goal; and then strive toward that goal; and I learned that by being creative and learning to create the slightest TOLERANCE OF BALANCE between what my present skill level was; and the task required of me... I could enter the flow state.
Yet, even before I ever began practicing Telekinesis/Psychokinesis/Psionics/Internal Energy Cultivation and other related things... I found myself drawn to juggling and contact juggling. This was designed to help me better understand the yielding nature of the martial arts... the very misunderstood YIN kind of energy.
