I wonder if the perception that ISFJs are not interested in typology comes from the fact that many ISFJs who are interested in typology mistype as INFJs - this also could be because for every video about ISFJs there is a dozen about INFJs, even though supposedly for every INFJ in the world there is a dozen of ISFJs. I think typology is neat, practical and organised - while also dealing with people - so should be quite interesting to ISFJs with their Si, Ti and Fe.
I really appreciate and support you being clear and honest with how you point out when you are saying something from your experience or your opinion INSTEAD of getting rid of these nuances in your claims and claiming them as absolute facts!!

Now that society is moving away from a Si dominated society to Se/fi (SP) lol, you are starting to see how absurd and irrational it is to get labled, dismissed and write off for simply being you. Clearest explanation of Si I have yet seen. I don't think the introspective quality of ISFJs is given nearly it's due in the MBTI community. They are constantly reflecting on and cross-referencing their memories with the present, analyzing and reanalyzing their experience. The ones I have known often give the impression that they are lost in thought without being completely detached from themselves, as an intuitive might be. I would venture to say that many have as well-developed a Ti as attributed to INFJs. My experience with Si as an ENTP is limited, coming from unusually intense or negative experiences. It's like the details and impressions that stand out as most important get written into the hard drive of the mind. Those details are the facts of what happened. It could be what was said, what someone did, how they did it, the details of an object, or the tension of the room. It becomes the reality that cannot be ignored or danced around. The range of what I can reasonably consider about that thing, event, or person in the grip and afterwards is then limited by a sense of that foreboding reality.
Your Revisiting the Types series seems to be continuously improving, both from the original series and through its own progression, and I think this could be your best yet. Here, I think it's mainly because it comes in stark contrast to the standard "worker bee" description, instead using blatant abstractions normally applied to the other types to describe functionality, but also because more care seems to be taken in contrasting the ISFJ with the types illustrated, and because you provided very thorough-yet-context-sensitive explanations of the functions. Really enjoyable!
This is by far the best video I have found describing how the functions of an ISFJ work together and compare to other functions (I like it even better than the first video of this series). I just noticed, too, that the video script is available to view. Thank you thank you so much! I am not an auditory learner by any means. I have to rewind videos over and over to process everything. I wonder if this is common to ISFJs or its just me. Regardless, offering both video scripts and the video, plus all the diagrams is so wonderful. It allows all types of learners to benefit from your content. :)

isfj's may appear long suffering to the rest of us, but i believe their very constitution allows them the fortitude to just outlast us; they kind of "rest in" their obligations.
I find that ISFJs often struggle making large jumps in creativity, but once they have a starting idea they run with it very creatively. I have been thinking about this for a while. Could it be that their Ne drives the creative process while at the same time stunts them from initially making those jumps of choosing what to do in the first place?
INTJ, 5w6 here: Michael, when I listen to your videos, it reminds me of being a competent enough musician to both comprehend and appreciate the degree of depth of even the most developed artist's works, while simultaneously being baffled by-- and inspired by!-- the level of complexity and intricacy it must have taken to birth that art. 22:10 Hahaha this is exactly like me but with US/UK pop music history. As an ISFJ I find joy in learning how different genres have taken influence from preexisting ones and how cultural/societal forces have shaped musical movements. There are not many noticiable musical movements anymore mostly due to the nature of the Internet age, but it’s still interesting to learn about musical trends tho.

I am an ISFJ and I just discovered your videos. I find it so interesting that not many ISFJs are really interested in typology. I feel like I have fallen down a rabbit hole, I can't stop reading about it because it all makes so much sense. When you got to the Ti portion of the video I finally felt like I understood Ti child. I've seen so many videos about this but no one has explained it very well and it makes me frustrated because it's a missing puzzle piece for me. When you described it here that the ISFJ is like a detective with their Ti it made sense to me now why I am so fascinated by type. Yes, it is technically theoretical, but in my mind it all makes so much sense when looking at my past interactions with others and just I observing other people in general. It does feel like a puzzle. To put together the puzzle of a person and understand them better is very rewarding. It has also helped me to better understand myself
I am also ISFJ, but considering Typology is essentially an "unpractical" but interesting conceptually thing, it might not appeal to many Si types. (Maybe Se too?) But I like to think of Typology as a way to give me a way to understand people. I don't rustle my feathers if I don't know someone's exact type, I just like to use typology stuff as a way of going "Oh this person thinks/acts this way, this can be explained how how typology describes it".
@@AngeVNs Yes I definitely see it that way too. I feel like typology helps me understand my relationships with some people better. Although it's not like a scientifically proven thing, I find that with the people I am close to it has been pretty spot on. However, some typology channels don't always give the best descriptions or they are totally off. I think that is because of stereotypes and also that everyone is different, it would be impossible to measure that someone of this type will exude every behaviour. It's more that maybe someone has a tendency.
As an intp, my isfj mom makes me feel stupid with her dominant Si. It's almost unfair that she doesn't have to say anything when im talking theory with her but i have to be able to keep track of dates, deadlines, bills, where my phone is, etc so she gets to show me up constantly
With the idea of the here and now as a saying and concept in my mind, I'm getting that the Se/Ni axis is here and future and that the Ne/Si axis is here and past, with the former looking, possibly, slightly to the past and the latter looking, possibly, slightly toward the future. My therapist had me take an MB and I came up as ISFJ . . . . . and now I'm well deep in the rabbit hole of investigation EVERYTHING I can find on this personality type. Yeah, I think the MB might be on point.
I very much identify with this video. I do think that the way an ISFJ uses Fe can cause others to see them in ways that don't line up with who they actually are. It's their own fault, really. If the person they interact with isn't "worth" much to them, they're not going to put the effort into trying to explain themselves. If the person they interact with IS "worth" much to them, they're going to us Fe to please that person, and often ignore their own deeper preferences because of it. Personally, I consider myself very analytical. However, because of my concreteness and realism, I am aware that all of my analyzing often leads to realizations of hugely obvious things. And so there is not much point in discussing all this processing I did to point out something to someone they already knew from their own preference-based processes. It's probably because of needing to base it in experience that it takes an ISFJ so much analyzing in order to "come to terms" with the obviousness of reality. Those are my initial thoughts, anyway. Notes: I identify as ISFJ (based on results from MBTI instrument as well as personal research confirming ISFJ as my "best fit" type). MBTI geek as of 3.5-ish years ago, MBTI Certified Practitioner as of 1 year ago (yay!), and continually VERY humbled and intrigued by the insight of others (such as this video) and how they describe the various functions. Thank you for what you do.
I can relate to the idea of being very analytical in pursuit of 'obvious' truths. I would say that the detail oriented nature of the isfj is sure to make NO assumptions and uses step by step logic to formulate an airtight 'proof' of their idea which, while perhaps somewhat obvoius to others, certainly will not have been developed as painstakingly and thoroughly by the intuitive types.
Guys, it's pretty ridiculous how he describes every type in positive terms but when he does it for Si using types it's "this is so biased, they aren't as good as you think", it's not like he's making ISFJ look better than other types and the commenters are trying to balance things out, rather he is making every type look equally good and showing equally positive sides, but people in the audience already see ISFJ as inferior and thus see any attempt to portray it in literally the same way as every other type to be biased. No one ever comes to the INFJ video and says he makes Ni look too positive rather than showing its negative side, even though you could make exactly the same criticism!
In other words i would like to know strategies on how to manage my thoughts according to my ISFJ personality type, to be able to be "happy" in my daily life...
Great stuff, as always. One quibble: On Fi disregarding what others want and doing its own thing instead (16:37), Fe is just as guilty of doing the same it in it's own way. You even alluded to it in the bit about sadness and pie at (15:21). Although this interaction is obviously simplified for the sake of the video, I've had similar exchanges with Fe users sometimes. At such times, they seem to follow a thought process where they skip to the conclusion that giving pie is the kind and considerate thing to do, without first asking: 1) although people generally perk up when I make them pie, does this person like pie? 2) and are they even able to eat pie? And more importantly, 3) why are they sad? 4) in this particular instance, is it even possible for their sadness to be alleviated by pie? 5) and could giving pie actually sadden then more, despite my intentions? That is, Fe sometimes defaults to solutions that it deems to be objective and universal, but which don't actually apply to the current situation. And it may even reject protests to the contrary, in an "nevermind that you don't want pie, have some anyway--I know what's best for you" sort of way. Of course, the usual "not all Fe users, not all the time" disclaimer applies. But for the sake of balance, I think this needs to be pointed out.

17:34 You hit the nail on the head. I had observed this in Fe types and it is the main reason why I have trouble getting along with some Fe types. I'm an Fi user and experienced this behaviour as very enforcing. This lead to quite some misunderstandings. I think there is a general communication problem between Fe and Fi types.
Love this video and all of your work. One question: why do talk so much about dominant intuitive types in your videos about sensing types? I notice this a lot in mbti writings. Is it because you are intuitive and think that most of your audience is, too? Or am I noticing something that isn't so?

I'm late to the punch here, but I'll still answer. A "dichotomy" is something used by the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator). It greatly simplifies the Jungian system in order to make it easier to objectively test for certain personality traits, namely E vs. I, S vs. N, etc. But the cognitive functions are, as the name suggests, *cognitive*. They are deep in the mind and hard to test for unless you are simply talking and discussing face-to-face with the person and dealing with them as an individual, which an objective test cannot do, obviously.

these impressions that the si users create are not always accurate. they are not penetrating and many times when a structure is established, they resist with all their might to change. yet, change if everyone around them insists, or if a force is great enough to cause the change. they will not defend truth as much as an intuitive will--or thinker--which will make them more adaptable. their si is not as perfect as you paint them to be. and actually i notice that they have a tendency to create a hierarhcy to like/dislikes in a person that they adibe by. the isfj's, esfj's, estj's, and istj's all do this and i hate it.
Not sure what type you are, but if you are saying that Ni is any more accurate, or flexible- it's not. Yes Ni searches for the truth, but will fail to find it. And even when Ni thinks it has found it, the need to be flexible and go along with others in place of being defiant or stopping progress can cause problems. So show a little understanding- we all have blindspots.
Long Ho This needs to be reigned. Finally someone notices! While I do not support blind chastising of si, because their stereotypical tendencies, there are reasons why these stereotypes exist. Si is a very rigid function, focused on safety. Everything revolves around safety in everything they do. This leads for a very scheming personality. people beware and learn.
Oh brother, a bunch of nerds that got picked on in high school. #ENTP here, learn to adapt. Si annoys me but I see it's benefits and use it to my advantage. Same as Fe when I need to influence someone. Michael Pierce is mostly right about these videos and quit nitpicking. Use these videos to learn how people think and use it to your advantage😈 I've learned how to manipulate all types and all functions have their pros and cons. Quit thinking about right or wrong but how you can use this information to get what you want in life.
I had to pause and replay a couple of sections. I don't think it's necessarily talking too fast -- more that some of the concepts require a bit of pause to analyze for certain type preferences. (I also identify as ISFJ.)

17:34 You hit the nail on the head. I had observed this in Fe types and it is the main reason why I have trouble getting along with some Fe types. I'm an Fi user and experienced this behaviour as very enforcing. This lead to quite some misunderstandings. I think there is a general communication problem between Fe and Fi types.

Love this video and all of your work. One question: why do talk so much about dominant intuitive types in your videos about sensing types? I notice this a lot in mbti writings. Is it because you are intuitive and think that most of your audience is, too? Or am I noticing something that isn't so?

I'm late to the punch here, but I'll still answer. A "dichotomy" is something used by the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator). It greatly simplifies the Jungian system in order to make it easier to objectively test for certain personality traits, namely E vs. I, S vs. N, etc. But the cognitive functions are, as the name suggests, *cognitive*. They are deep in the mind and hard to test for unless you are simply talking and discussing face-to-face with the person and dealing with them as an individual, which an objective test cannot do, obviously.

Well I'm expecting ESFP, but i get this weird feeling that that's the last one pierce will do.
these impressions that the si users create are not always accurate. they are not penetrating and many times when a structure is established, they resist with all their might to change. yet, change if everyone around them insists, or if a force is great enough to cause the change. they will not defend truth as much as an intuitive will--or thinker--which will make them more adaptable. their si is not as perfect as you paint them to be. and actually i notice that they have a tendency to create a hierarhcy to like/dislikes in a person that they adibe by. the isfj's, esfj's, estj's, and istj's all do this and i hate it.
Not sure what type you are, but if you are saying that Ni is any more accurate, or flexible- it's not. Yes Ni searches for the truth, but will fail to find it. And even when Ni thinks it has found it, the need to be flexible and go along with others in place of being defiant or stopping progress can cause problems. So show a little understanding- we all have blindspots.

Long Ho This needs to be reigned. Finally someone notices! While I do not support blind chastising of si, because their stereotypical tendencies, there are reasons why these stereotypes exist. Si is a very rigid function, focused on safety. Everything revolves around safety in everything they do. This leads for a very scheming personality. people beware and learn.
Oh brother, a bunch of nerds that got picked on in high school. #ENTP here, learn to adapt. Si annoys me but I see it's benefits and use it to my advantage. Same as Fe when I need to influence someone. Michael Pierce is mostly right about these videos and quit nitpicking. Use these videos to learn how people think and use it to your advantage😈 I've learned how to manipulate all types and all functions have their pros and cons. Quit thinking about right or wrong but how you can use this information to get what you want in life.

I had to pause and replay a couple of sections. I don't think it's necessarily talking too fast -- more that some of the concepts require a bit of pause to analyze for certain type preferences. (I also identify as ISFJ.)
