      I'm really excited to practice them now, especially learning to manage the auto-pilot during the missed approach -- keeping the HDG bug synced forward, changing the ALT to the missed approach climb altitude, and switching to HDG mode so when you re-enable auto-pilot it'll continue flying runway heading until you're ready to make the turn towards the MAHP. Lots to practice!

      It's hard for me to troubleshoot here, but the NXi won't enter SUSP mode until you pass the missed approach point (MAP) which is usually labelled with the runway number, e.g. "RW27 map". But, "Activate Missed Approach" should be available before the MAP.

      I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I found a site that lets you download the auto-generated CZcams transcript for any video. Here's an example using my NXi 0.8.0 video -- you can click the small green "TXT" button on the left to download a text document of the video transcript. Then you could optionally edit it down to make it a bit more concise.

    Great work as always. When does the SUSP soft key come up? I've been caught in a hold and not sure how to get out. I just flew that route again and was looking for SUSP maybe to pop up once entering the hold. What are the conditions for getting SUSP on the display. I'm using 0.8.0. Thanks Robert!
      SUSP activates when in a hold or when passing the MAP (missed approach point in the flight plan). You can press the SUSP softkey on the MFD to resume the auto-sequencing of the flight plan.
      If executing a missed approach, you can press SUSP, use the PROC menu's "activate missed approach" option, OR if your aircraft has a working GA/TOGA mode, you can use that as well to re-sequence to start the missed approach procedure.

    So what makes the "Lock" version better? Love these video updates though

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  Před 2 lety +2

      For the new "range" knob functionality, it makes it a lot easier to move the cursor. If you use legacy mode, you'll need to precisely point to a specific side of the knob to push the "joystick" in that direction. With the Lock mode, you just hold your left mouse button and move your mouse.
      You can also turn knobs faster in other scenarios, like when making large changes with the HDG or ALT knobs. You can still use your mouse wheel when pointing to a know to make adjustments that way.
      Lock mode also highlights the knob you're pointing at, so it makes it easier to know if you're using the inner or outer FMS or ALT knobs, for example.
      I'd just recommend trying both out and seeing if you like it or not. I personally like the Lock mode better :-)

When I go back to Legacy, the buttons and knobs in cockpit mode and Control 1 and 2 zoom modes will respond to the mouse clicks. Any comments on that??

  • @michaelchomiczewski7937

    Hi Kip. Can you please do a proper video on missed approach procedure - along the lines of what you did for RNAV? I tried one today and, well, it kind of sort of worked. But not really :-o I am guessing missed approach would be typically activated around the minimums (even though a missed approach can be declared, as I understand, any time during the approach). But would the AP be typically still on or already off when a missed approach is selected? I was able to activate it with AP off from the procedures menu (which I had queued ahead of time, as I was planning on trying this out); however, the SUSP soft key option never showed up for me (maybe because of the fact that APR mode would not arm and I was flying the glide path manually). Are there conditions for SUSP to be available? Like APR mode active? Or... previously active? (if I'm activating a missed approach from AP off state - like I was today). Basically, could you please show the whole typical sequence, including what we need to do with power, flaps, gear, FLC mode (I assume it does not climb on its own in missed approach mode? or does it?) Ideally, a vid very similar to your RNAV ‘tutorial’ - an entire short-ish flight, focusing on the missed approach at the end. Oh. And how on earth do we exit the race track hold pattern once we are ready for another landing try :-o Thanks in advance :-)

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  Před 2 lety

      Yes, I will!
      During a missed approach, SUSP is only available when you have passed the Missed Approach Point (MAP). Usually this is labelled something like "RW25 map" in the flight plan. You can, however, use "Activate Missed Approach" as soon as the Final Approach Fix (FAF) is your active waypoint. If you have passed the MAP, you can use either SUSP or the Activate Missed Approach option (SUSP will be easier to press).
      During your approach, you should set up the selected altitude on the AP to the top altitude of the missed approach climb instruction. Usually it's to fly runway heading and climb to a specific altitude, or to climb to one altitude then do a climbing turn to another "top" altitude. In both cases, you want the higher altitude to be setup in your AP. Also, you should sync your heading bug to be your current heading during the approach (runway heading). I'd also recommend changing to HDG mode on the AP once you've passed the FAF and are likely on a Glidepath or advisory vertical guidance using Approach Mode -- since you're going to climb on runway heading initially for the missed approach procedure.
      You can re-enable autopilot when you're ready to after your initial climb. First press SUSP (or "activate missed approach") so it'll sequence you to the next waypoint in the flight plan (after the MAP). When you re-activate AP, It'll be in HDG mode (that we set above) and PIT mode (holding your current nose-up pitch). When ready to turn towards the next waypoint, you can just switch to NAV mode. Optionally you could also switch to FLC or VS mode to continue the climb instead of PIT mode.
      Hope all of that makes sense :-)
      And, to exit a hold, you just press the SUSP softkey on the PFD. It'll auto-sequence to the next waypoint in your flight plan.

    I'm missing something. I start cold in a parking spot, enter an origin and destination, go to proc, choose an ILS runway, and load the flight plan. When I'm ready for clearance, ATC offers a VFR flight plan. The Nav1 frequency doesn't change, and I can't figure out how to change it. (The waypoint approach with before the Nxi update isn't available.) Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Maybe you could do a video stepping through the process with version 0.8? Thanks in advance for the help. Your videos are the best.

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  Před 2 lety

      You're not doing anything wrong, it's just that the NXi doesn't play nice with ATC (or the built-in VFR map) yet. Right now the only way to get your flight plan to work with in-game ATC is by doing the planning on the World Map. This also means you can't change your destination on the Garmin and request that new destination either, unfortunately. You can still import custom flight plans if you're using a tool like SimBrief or Little Nav Map, though -- I do that pretty often.
      Regarding the NAV1 frequency changing, the NXi will automatically set the localizer frequencies in NAV1+NAV2 when you load or activate an ILS approach. Also, when the the FAF (final approach fix) becomes the active leg of the approach, the CDI should auto-switch to LOC1 (green) for you as well.

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately, any flight plan changes you make directly in the NXi are not yet synced with ATC or the VFR map in the sim. For now, the only way to get your desired flight plan in is to do it via the World Map (you can still leave the approach as "automatic" to let ATC choose one for you, though). Once the NXi can do this synchronization with ATC, I will be doing a video on manually planning the flight directly on the NXi.
