Huge update, great to finally have weather radar and proper ILS switching. Still no flight path indicator / velocity indicator though, which is a little strange as they had that implemented on their early version, so the code is definitely there.
I suspected we'd see weather radar soon as I heard MS finally opened up the SDK to third-parties.

Pretty sure I read a WT teammate saying it's impossible for the G1000 mod to even crash the sim, so I'd bet it's something else. Best bet is to temporarily remove all your mods and add them 1 at a time to see what is working or not. An easy way to do this is to rename your Community folder to something like "Community1" then restart the sim. It will make a new, empty Community folder. Then you can move mods 1 at a time from "Community1" to "Community", restarting the sim each time. That way you won't have to re-download them all or move them around your file system.

Just when I thought I had a handle on the G1000, WT comes in with a huge update and makes me stupid again! Hehehe... Seriously though, what an amazing update. I'll have to head back to the Caravan and start some learning.

I really love to see this mod addon ported over to XPlane11/12 (if at all possible).
Now that we can hold at a waypoint, is it too much to ask for a tutorial where you use a real holding pattern from an airport chart?
what do you need a tutorial for? You enter the data as it says on the chart, inbound course, turn direction and leg disctance if shown (then in NM) and if not mentioned explicitly, 1 min leg times until F140, thereafter 1,5min (I would stick to 1 min though)
Eg LOWI RTT hold (Navigraph chart 10-2 LOWI) Right hand turns, inbound course 225 and leg distcance type minutes (no distance marked on the hold)
For a dicstance hold check out the MEEGO hold on the CAVLR4 arrival into KIAD (20-2 KIAD), leg distance 10nm
On one hand I appreciate the effort, but find it incredible that after over a year we still don't have a decent g1000 system in this game.
Without the efforts of the working title team, who knows when we would have ever gotten these kinds of improvements. It’s great that Microsoft hired them. Can’t wait to see how far it’ll come in a few more months!
@@KipOnTheGround I guess you can call it progress, I remember having a g1000 on fsx 10yrs ago with more functions than most real life g1000s I have seen. I hope you are right, but maybe they be halted by MS inefficiency machine, just like FBW seems to be now with their 350. They used to have an update every other day, now its stuck with a ptu sound upgrade that is just pathetic.

Thanks Kip- I have been avoiding ILS approaches favoring RNAV GPS Approaches because I didnt want to deal with switching CDI modes, setting Nav freqs , etc. can you maybe do an updated tutorial video for doing an ILS approach with this latest NXI update, and maybe include something with a hold built into the approach, to show us how and when everything automatically switches?
I definitely want to make a similar ILS version of the RNAV video! I can include an approach that has a procedure turn, but probably won’t cover holds until missed approach procedures are functional, since holds are assigned by ATC (which doesn’t happen in MSFS ATC) or are used as part of missed approach procedures.

I've now had a little bit of time to test it out. Great improvement overall, however, nexrad doesn't function on consoles. In WT's defence, none of the other aircrafts weather radar fucctions at the moment. It displays the moment you turn the radar on, but it never updates, so you have to cycle it constantly. The G1000 nexrad just doesn't work at all on console though, even when cycling.
Hopefully they have fixed a few bugs too. I had the ILS display vector rotated 90 degrees a couple of times. But autopilot followed it normally so it was just cosmetic.
Yes, many! Check the video description for the full release notes. I just cover the major improvements in the video. They actually even wrote their own entire custom autopilot for this version.
That has been fixed (or rather added, it wasn't really a bug)! In the changelog it's listed as "Automatic CDI slewing for ILS approaches".

We definitely will, they're focusing on the G1000 NXi first, as I understand it. I heard rumours they'd also been contracted to improve the gns430/530 in the future.
Do you prepare (using eg approach plate) this hold as part of the flight plan so you have it ready, or is it alway ATC tha will tell you the hold details?
In IFR training you may request a hold (which may or may not be granted depending on traffic), and do entry practice as well as a few holding patterns. In this easier case you'll know in advance where the hold will be and the type of entry based on your bearing to the hold waypoint. In a more realistic scenario, holds may be issued on the fly by ATC, so you'll need to be ready to figure out the entry type, etc.
Not forgetting that go-arounds almost always lead to holds, so when briefing your approach you'll have the opportunity to prepare for that, provided that ATC doesn't instruct you to do something shorter and simpler instead, like vectors to a new approach. Again, in a training environment and in less crowded skies, you may even request a full go-around all the way to the hold, and start a new approach from there.
I have a question not really related to G1000 - what setting do you have to have the button/knob light up when you hover the mouse over it? I tried to do it in Options but that disables the control and the mouse has no effect, so right now I have that setting at "Legacy" and I see arrows when I hover the mouse over the button/knob.
The highlighting is part of the new "Lock" cockpit interaction setting. If you use "Legacy" instead, then you lose the highlighting.
To fix the mouse problem using "lock" , you need to reset your mouse settings to the default profile. Do this by going to controller settings and using the blue arrows under “mouse” to change to “default”. Then redo any custom mouse bindings you had.

After the update of the G1000 to v0.5 the altimeter and autopilot do not work. The altimeter cannot be changed from 99000 where is preset by default. Has anyone seen the same error or found a fix? Thanks!!!
I've got exactly the same issue with this update both with Xbox series x and PC. Altimeter is fixed at 99,999 and never move. Autopilot has a mind of its own after disconnecting, seems it's still locked on. I guess the only way is to try and reinstall.
Aaaarrrgghh! Now I can’t get RNAV to work. And my Bravo buttons / lights don’t seem to respond like the previous version. Probably operator error but this is frustrating!
Hi Kip, seems like the HDG button does no longer fix the heading bug on the current course on activation?
I've been seeing this issue too, even in the 0.6.0 update. I'll ask in the Working Title Discord to see if it's a known issue. If so, hopefully we'll see a fix in the next update!
I can not see any traffic on the MFD. I have Traffic softkey selected and in sim traffic at 70%. Any ideas whats wrong?
I've had this happen recently as well since I had recorded this video. Might be a bug there that needs to be sorted out :(
I cant get any traffic to show in any aircraft using the G1000
Also I can't get the Map settings sub-menu like you do with the small knob
Thanks a lot for this brief showaround! There's one thing I seem to not be able to do anymore on MFD : pan the map up-down-right-left. The arrow doesn't appear anymore when pushing on the zoom button. Is it me or did I miss sthg or isn't it available (yet) ?
It’s not implemented on the NXi yet, and also if you’re using the new “lock” control style, you hold left mouse button and just move your mouse in the direction you want to move the range “stick”

BTW, I tried to use the OBS in a C172 g1000, had a flightplan programed, Departure AP, 2 AP as waypoints where I do touch and go's, and arrival AP, but the OBS remained greyed out all the time... What did I do wrong or what did I miss? Do I need to set up something before using the OBS? Does it only work with "direct to" ?
OBS mode also isn’t functional on the NXi yet, but the working title team did post a preview video of it on their discord, so we can hopefully expect it in the next update!

For G1000 to automatically swich to localizer, do I need to LOAD or ACTIVE the approach? I thought those were different concepts (load meaning add to flight plan; activate meang commit to it and start making happen once ATC gives clearance). Another thing I am confused about is the exact sequence of events. When flying towards final approach fix (first way point that is part of approach procedure, right?) I activate approach? As soon as I activated it, I hit APR on the autopilot? And now it should capture ILS? Asking because it has not been working for me so surely my sequence is off. Thank you for great videos!
If you're on an ILS approach, the NXi will automatically switch the nav source to LOC when the FAF is the active leg and you're within 15 miles of it.
Yep, Load Approach and Activate Approach are different. On the Select Approach page, "Load" simply adds the procedure to your flight plan. "Activate" adds it to your flight plan AND makes the first waypoint of the approach the active waypoint.
"Activate Approach" on the FPL's MENU page will simply activate the approach that's in your flight plan already (making its first waypoint active).
So, whether you happened to Activate the approach to get to the first waypoint in the approach sooner, like you'd do if ATC cleared you to, say, the initial approach fix (IAF), doesn't matter. The LOC switching happens when you're on the leg to the FAF.
The localizer frequency is automatically set in your NAV radio by the NXi whenever you Load or Load+Activate an ILS approach.
The FAF is the last waypoint in the approach before the MAP (missed approach point) which is generally shortly before the runway threshold. The FAF is where you expect to get vertical guidance from an ILS (usually you get it prior to the FAF in MSFS). If you are at the correct altitude when the glideslope is in range, and have APR mode armed on the autopilot, it will capture and follow the ILS glideslope.
Heres a common sequence (excluding any VNAV descents we may do just for the sake of not writing a novel):
- On the ground (heheh, I said it!) you set up your flight plan and either don't include/load an approach at all, OR you decide to load the most likely approach based on the information you have of your destination
- You take off and cruise, and eventually ATC gives assigns you an approach. as you get close to your destination
- If it's an ILS, generally ATC will say "cleared for ILS 25 approach via BEERS transition, cleared to BEERS"
- If we don't have the ILS 25 via BEERS loaded as our Approach procedure, we press the PROC button and do that. Since we were cleared to BEERS, we can use "Activate" instead of "Load" because we are allowed to go directly to BEERS
- If we happened to already have the ILS 25 via BEERS loaded as our Approach, and are not currently heading to BEERS as our active waypoint, use PROC / Activate Approach to set BEERS as our active waypoint
- We fly to each waypoint of the approach leading up to the FAF leg
- Once we get to the leg that ends at the FAF, the NXi will automatically switch to the LOC1/LOC2 nav source. Since NAV mode is acitve on our AP, it will line us up with the runway using the Localizer
- Arming APR mode on the AP will give the autopilot the ability to capture the Glideslope of the ILS when we're close enough to the FAF (you can do this before this point if you want; even way back at the IAF instead. I tend to do it when the FAF is the next waypoint).

It took maybe 8 different flights before I FINALLY managed one in a stock DA20 that worked end to end (including VPATH and ILS auto tune - Barlin to Hanover trip) . Between MSFS bugs, NXi being work in progress, my go-to DA62 performance mod not always playing nice with the latest NXi mode, and, um... user error compounding the problem - AND pile on top of that the fact that my flights are NOT in the US (I tend to fly in Germany and Poland which I suspect are less polished in terms of SIDs, STARs, and approach procedures in MSFS than US air space is) - it required multiple attempts to finally get it all to fall into place. Now that I know it's possible - I will keep trying :-) Thank you again!
I cannot see traffic on my display. With the traffic mode enabled. I have it working on the GTN750 using MS Traffic Service am I missing some software to make the G1000 by NXI display conflicting traffic or should it just work and mine isn't?? Any help appreciated.
On xbox I still can't scroll through options to make the map orientation "north up" instead of "heading up". It's really frustrating 😤

Yes! I tested it with the RSG G1000 and it’s almost all working, only found the VNV button doesn’t work yet, and the outer ALT knob does 100 instead of 1000 foot increments. I reported those bugs so hopefully they’ll be fixed!
How do I switch G1000 on in the 208? When I start flight avionics is off
Is OBS Mode still working? I don't see the OBS softkey anymore using Direct To airport function.

@@KipOnTheGround Also lost key mapping function for VS. Ctrl+V not working nor does the hardware keymapping to my controller. Have to click on the VS button in the cockpit.
i don't see any NEXRAD data on my map on the NXi, maybe im missing something, none at all even in big cloudy windy areas?
NEXRAD only displays precipitation in the sim, so nothing will show up if the clouds nearby aren't dropping rain or snow.

Confused as to when it is necessary to activate a RNAV approach, can you please clear this up for me.
Activating an approach will make the first approach waypoint the active waypoint. You'd use it in the case where ATC clears you to that waypoint. If they clear you to a waypoint after that one, like an intermediate fix (IF), you would use the direct-to button to go to that waypoint instead. The "activate" option when selecting a procedure with the PROC menu will load AND activate the procedure. Or you can use "load" and later use "activate" via the PROC menu. If there's no "cleared to" ATC instructions, you'd just fly to each waypoint, and the approach would be automatically "active" once you reach the approach phase; no need to manually activate it unless going directly to the first approach waypoint. Hope that makes sense :-)

3:11 non of my buttons work except "map options" and then nothing belse wors except back button
Make sure you don't have any other mods installed that may conflict with the G1000 NXi mod. If you had the older G1000 mod, make sure it's removed. Same goes for any plane mods you may have that alter the G1000. You can troubleshoot it by temporarily removing all your mods except for the NXi, to see if something is conflicting with it.

even if the traffic mode is on, my MFD doesn't show any traffic, any way to fix this?
I've noticed that multiplayer traffic isn't showing up on mine, but if I enable Live Traffic, I do see that traffic.

Is it capable of getting IFR clearance from ATC yet?
Not yet if you input the flight plan manually. Still only “transfers” to ATC if done via the world map

Cessna 172, Cessna Grand Caravan, Cirrus SR22, Diamond DA40 + DA62, Beechcraft Baron + Bonanza. Possibly more but I don't think so.

100% worth it IMO. It will become the default G1000 eventually, and VNAV is incredibly useful. They're adding more features every few weeks! You can also always remove the NXi whenever you want using your Content Manager within the sim.
