#msfs #microsoftflightsimulator #flightsimulator - Hry
This could become a study level G1000 in the sim.
GREAT commentary - as usual! !! !!!
So for the vectors to final option, its not as useful in the sim without atc, but IRL (I'm commercial multi and instrument rated, with instrument and commercial being completed in G1000 and G1000Nxi equipped aircraft), the option is a extremely useful, if not required for doing instrument approaches. The function is not about cleaning up the map, yes it does that but its not why its there, the reason its there is because in order for a gps to intercept a course it needs to be intercepting an active leg (from one point to another), when atc is vectoring you to final (which they do very often, saves time for everyone if they can), because of the need for a leg to be active, then if atc drops you in right before the final approach fix the gps won't register it since it thinks you're still going to the initial approach fix eventually, but also you can't just activate the leg between iaf and faf since sometimes you may end up entering the course outside the iaf as well, so by activating vectors to final you tell the aircraft that you want it to capture course as long as you are along runway heading somewhere before the final approach fix rather than try to go back to iaf or something like that. Which if ATC is vectoring you to final then you really don't need the situational awareness of the earlier fixes in the approach since they are having you completely disregard them, but the fixes are still there in the flight plan so you can still return to going direct to any of the fixes in the approach if needed (say vectored off course and then told go direct to a fix in between iaf and faf, can select on flight plan and click direct). So in sim I can see how the mode doesn't seem that useful, but in an actual atc environment and with a little understanding of how the gps works you can see how the mode is actually very useful and often a necessity.
I love using this function for circuits on airports without any formal procedures or approaches in the system.
I remember starting out MSFS at launch as a complete noob in flight simming. But with an enthusiasm towards flying I already had in other games.
Thanks to you (and other youtubers) I've learnt a lot when it comes to using the AP and flying in general in game. ( I had no clue how to use the AP at the start.. )
So I've gotta say thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work!
I am on exactly the same boat. I hed zero knowlage of anything in aviation prior to FS2020, learned so much during the last year. Mostly thanks to youtube guides.
Kip, thanks for keeping these happening. Perfect as usual.
Straight to the point and clear as usual! Thank you!
Amazing as usual, Kip. Thanks. You're a natural instructor.
You are very good trainer! Easy to follow and very detailed in your descriptions. Great job man!
Thank you Kip, you are amazing and I am very happy with this, keep it up!
Came across your channel as your F-18 video was linked on the official MSFS forums. There's some excellent content here, very straightforward and informative. Especially the G1000 tutorials. I think WT have done a fantastic job with it.
As I say, excellent stuff. Keep it up.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK PUTTING THESES VIDEO TOGETHER. THEY ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
I'd be lost without your videos. Thanks!
Kip this is great information! The WPT shortcuts and being able to load the freq on the fly without dialing it in is a huge time saver and lowers the burden of a busy cockpit. Really appreciate the topics you coveted in this vid!
The very first one as always! Thanks Kip!
Excellent Tutorial. Keep them coming.
Thanks Kip, outstanding video, a super clear update on the latest version of Working Titles G1000 NXi, Much appreciated.
This is when I really start to appreciate having the RSG G1000 suite.
Love your videos and delivery, easy to understand but enough voice variation where it isn’t monotone.
Your videos are great. Appreciated. Keep doing that friend.
Another great video, thanks, every time I use the G1000nxi I learn a new button or feature, its a complicated piece of kit for certain :)
Awesome as usual. Thanks. 😍🙏
Great stuff. The G1000NXi gets better and better.
Great like always.Thanks
Thank you for all your tutorials on the G1000 NXI, it's true that it has its own logic with all its tips and your tutorials answer all my questions ... Thank you very much
very good tutorial and explanation, thanks a lot for this.
Great Info. Thanks
Thank you!!!!!! Amazing
Well done!
Incredibly proficient!
What I like about a new G1000 update is that we’ll get a new Kip video very soon!
Thank you.
Every update to the NXi makes me want to try to shove it into my TBM. Hehehe... I know eventually the G3000 will get this same love but for now, I have to get out my Caravan to enjoy the NXI love. ;)
THIS IS SO HANDY
Thanks Again Kip By the way .How did you learn all this stuff? Also you seem like such a busy person how do you have time to sleep? Also your Awesome for giving all that you do. A real Fan Jeff
Hey Jeff. Not a problem, hope the videos help! I guess I just watch and read everything I can get my hands on -- I'll read Garmin manuals, watch CZcams (Boldmethod is awesome) and Sporty's tutorials, bounce questions off my partner (she actually flies), chatting with people on Discord... I definitely need more sleep, but there's so much to learn :-)
I have heaps to learn about NXi, in fact hardly used it at all. Been busy on a32nx and learning MCDU
Very nicely done sir! Activate Vectrs to Final, could you push SUSP, and get it that way instead of double entry on MFD/PFD?
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Just an FYI, I know in here you are just demo’ing the feature, but best practice in real use is not to use Vectors to Final once you have an approach with waypoints loaded up since it blows up all your prior waypoints in the approach. It’s better to keep the waypoints in case ATC clears you to one direct. So instead of vectors to final, activate the leg of the flight plan that you are intercepting.
Good grief! How do you know these things? I have explored the map settings a zillion times and never came across all those options hidden in the menus. Thanks as always for your great videos.
Excellent " lightspeed" presentation. I am sorry for Xplane11.
i am so pleased XP11 exists
@@g4kfjve7kfj34 I also like XP11 very much. And it was my favorite all the time , just until the moment, that WT brought up the new G1000 NXi.
We simmers should be glad, that their is a concurrent situation now. BUT XPLANE 11(12) has to COME UP VERY QUICKLY . If not - they will lose all the ground !
Awesome.....guessing this will be loaded automatically to replace the G1000?
Eventually it will, yes, but for now it’s still in beta so you need to install it yourself via the marketplace.
Hi Captain, Best Regards from MMMX, a question, do You know how set or maping a joystic or keyboard button to move the FMS knob? thanks.
I guess in a touch screen should work great
Kip,
Great content, die hard follower, once I set click direct to and set up flight can delete that plan. have tried everything, I am using NXi.
Hi! Can you tell me more about the flight plan so I can understand what’s happening? The flight plan is being erased completely when using direct-to?
The issue I'm having is whenever I click "direct to" whether airport, navaid etc. and enter it. I cannot go in and delete that flight. I am using Msfs2020 Garmin G1000 NXi
Good work mate ! Have you updated yet to WU7 / YOTG ?
Yep! I did a long stream as well checking out all the new planes and the Reno expansion. I’m really happy with the update, but luckily haven’t run into performance problems like some others have.
Thanks very much for your video series Kip it's super helpful ! Just wondering why on my side for any airport approach I only have "visual" options and not RNAV or ILS... Do you have any clue if I missed anything there ? Thanks so much for your help !
Assuming the airport in question has approach procedures, do you happen to use (or in the past have you used) Navigraph's FMS Data? I've read that if you don't uninstall it using Navigraph's "Navdata Center" program (and instead try to just delete the Navigraph data from your community folder) that it can cause issues with the nav database. I'd recommend installing then uninstalling the FMS data using Navdata Center if that's the case.
@@KipOnTheGround It was indeed exactly this, thanks so much, I would never have solved this by myself... Thanks !!
Um...so far it has automatically switched to localizer approach for ILS, unless this bug is specific to vectors to final.
For a while I was manually setting up my ils approach before I learned it would do that on its own.
From the release notes:-
Vectors To Final auto-switching the CDI will only work if you have not chosen VECTORS as the transition and you select ‘ACTIVATE VECTORS TO FINAL’ from the PFD; this will be fixed in the next release. For now, if you don’t follow this flow, you will need to manually switch the CDI source for LOC/ILS approaches when VTF is activated.
Kip will you please do a F18 autopilot tutorial. I can’t figure out the flight level change for the life of me. Thank you.
Will do!
Any idea when WT will allow custom VNAV descents instead of just published procedures? Much more useful when using live ATC like PilotEdge or VATSIM.
Not sure yet :( but we just got VNV direct so hopefully soon! 🤞
@@KipOnTheGround yes, that’s a start. Regarding direct to on approaches, in practice it’s smarter to “activate” the leg as opposed to a direct to because you don’t loose your waypoints. If you had to discontinue the approach for example, and come back around to the initial fix all you have to do is activate the leg again as opposed to reloading the approach.
When I use the Type feature in the 172 my whole session freezes. I cant use the plane at all until i restart the sim. Even planing a new flight somewhere else doesn’t fix it.
This is on the Xbox.
great video little bit off topic why can't i see any traffic , I only use multi player , so is it only AI traffic that shows up thanks all
I believe it only currently can show "Live Traffic" (the computer-flown stuff based on real world flights) and SimConnect-injected traffic (like from VATSIM).
When you activate vector to final, you were in hdg autopilot mode. Can activate vector to final even if you are in nav autopilot mod? In case no when you can switch in nav mode perhaps when you reach the faf?
Yes, but it may revert to PIT (pitch hold) if you aren’t close enough to intercept the final approach course. I haven’t actually tried it, but generally you’ll want to be in HDG mode since ATC is expected to give you headings to follow.
So the G1000 with msfs2020 doesn't have nearest page group? I can't find it any where I downloaded this version and couldn't find either, and this NXi version is so buggy that you can't do anything while you are flying.
Can you run the GPS on a second monitor?
You can pop out the G1000 (and other screens) in MSFS by holding the right ALT key and clicking them.
@@KipOnTheGround Ah right, I knew you could with like the PFD and NAV on airliners, but wasn't sure on the GPS...thanks for clarifying
Is it normal that the map dont show the terrain ? Just black and the gps line ? I have that issue my map wont show the terrain elevation :o
There are 3 options for terrain display that you can cycle through under the "Map Opts" menu at the bottom of the MFD. Click the soft button under it to reveal them. Those options are Terrain, Relative Terrain, and "OFF" (which is the setting you may be on, where it shows no terrain info).
May I ask where to get this update thanks
The latest version of the G1000 NXi is always available in the MSFS Marketplace, just make sure you filter for "free" in the Marketplace to find it.
No weather radar so far ?
Not yet!
You fail to mention how the F to get the 0.9.0 update. Only have 0.4.0 in community updater.
Not sure what the community updater is, but the NXi is part of the marketplace in MSFS. You install and update it in the marketplace and content manager within the sim.
I mention how to install it in the other 6-7 videos on the NXi so far, so decided to exclude it from this video since it’s quite repetitive.
@@KipOnTheGround Thanx Homie! 🙏🏽 btw I'm new to your channel hence not seeing the other vids. 😉
