CP in Vermont

  • On Labor Day weekend 1995 I ventured to northern Vermont to catch CP in and around the Newport area. At that time, they were running a night freight to Montreal via Farnham, and a daylight crew that alternated trips to Richford or St. Johnsbury. The weather was perfect, and my only regret is that a vehicle breakdown prevented me from getting a shot of the 1801 turning on the St. Johnsbury turntable.

Ah...the good old Vermont praceful railroading.
CP´s MLW rebuilted RS18. 1824 have already lost class lights.
    Caboose.
    No graffitis.
Friendly crew that sometimes could give you a ride, not wearing halloween pumpkin vests.
A genius cat logo on boxcar.
Thanks for your efforts. Too bad about your car.

Outstanding footage. Thank you sharing. I can see why the CP in VT is a great RR to model.

@ 2:40... never seen such a grassy rail yard... like a football field with tracks.

Wow. Cabooses Alcos weedy yards reverse kicking 5 man crews. This video has it all. I can't believe all this still existed in 1995. I was just a dumb teenager fresh out of high school then. Wish I would have had the smarts to see this stuff for myself then.

Nice catch of the crew dropping their train and the van into two separate tracks! Try that today on CP and you're fired!!

This has got to be the most picturesque RR ever, complete with mowed grass yard. Just. No winter please.

How in the world did you manage to capture everything cool on every railroad when railroading was neat? And when video cameras weren't everywhere? I'm glad i found this channel.

Great video. I grew up listening to those horns. On rainy days we could even hear the engines from Mansonville.

Fantastic video! Something long gone and not often filmed. I wonder what these lines will look like now with their new owner?

Just awesome photography. They were working lose and free. Flying swithes, high speed. Caboose.! Heavenly. What are those engines? Gp9's?

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  Před 3 lety +1

The engines with longer noses are MLW RS18's. They were originally built with high hoods but had them chopped for better visibility in a rebuilding program. The longer locos with very short noses are MLW C424's.

Both directions are shown. If you give me a time I can tell you which way the train is headed at that point.
