  • This is a general overview of the ranged weapons used by the Normans and Irish during the Norman invasion of the 1100's. A visit to Dublin's National history museum contains many artefacts of war that although many are from the earlier Viking period, would have been similar to those used by the Irish and Normans aroound this time.
Examples of the weapons shown come from the National History Museum Dublin.

Greetings from Ireland! Welcome to my channel, that is dedicated to the history and culture of Ireland. This is not set out to be a history lesson, but a ramble through some stories you might find interesting about Ireland from an Irishman! Ireland has so many connections throughout the world from the emigration from this country over so many centuries, but those with Irish blood in their families always have a yearning to know more about thier "old country", this is my attempt to bring some of the history and culture they left behind. So if you fancy some tales about horsemen and highwaymen, banshee's and fairies, soldiers and rebels, legends and folklore, saints and scholars, please like and subscribe, I post once per month. Thank you for watching. Ronan.

There are a couple of examples of the sling pouch at the National Museum. They are listed officially as hair ties. However, their design and even their damage exactly matches other confirmed sling pouches from Jorvik and on the continent.

The problem is when I was there, I wanted to talk with someone about what they were. I had done some archeology, but had no degree. I was shown the door.

Another well done video! 😁👍 I love the combination of appropriate video with pictures and in my experience for now it seems unique to show some from museums. 😃 (if you could credit the museums in text on the video, and in the video description it'd help people like me know where to go to see more like you've shown 😉).
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of history!

Thanks for the compliment and I did mention the museum at the start of the video (National history in Dublin) but you are correct and I will put it in the description. Thank again for the feedback.
