In my fervent imagination i pictured the story behind this gift, the owner had this sword on display in his home, but it wasn't safely out of the reach of children, so one day his littlke kid took the sword to play with it, his wife witnessed it, and got mad at the guy for not having stored the sword correctly, and so she ordered him to get rid of it, or else, and so he gave it to Skall.

He's also Scandinavian by birth, and all Nordic languages are Germanic in orgin except for Finnish and Sapmi.
Which means it's far easier to learn German well than for example French or Portugese.
I've always thought that Cara might be German due to her accent, so maybe Skall learned some. Pure speculation though, maybe he took German in school or he's just very good at picking up languages. :)

If anyone ever says any form of craft is not an art, they are a sorry fool. I have seen anything from buildings, handmade tools, candles, and even automobiles and media that are clearly art. This gorgeous sword is proof positive of that.

The comparison is a bit lacking as this is a two handet Longsword while the Katana is more of a one-and- a-half hander and is quite a bit shorter. A Tachi would be amore apt equivalent.

@@geyotepilkington2892 He's had to sell some of his collection in the past because he's got bills to pay, and he has to facilitate new content so when he sells his stuff to go towards buying new stuff for more content and to pay his bills (second part not too sure but it would make sense). Stuff like this probably would be on the last of things he'd sell though, because it's a gift for one thing and it's something that he's wanted for a while.

An interesting tidbit: while traditionally the Gallowglass was a foreign warrior paid in beef, within a generation or two there were a great many native Irishmen also fighting as Gallowglasses, while being paid in silver.
Also, while the longsword (and later greatsword) were very famously used by them, the other famous weapon was the "Sparth" axe, the pike, the longbow, and sword and shield.
That sword is *beautiful,* the one who sent you this is beyond a generous person.
