In this video I show how I build some neat cabinet handles. I use an easy to cut, yet super duper strong joint called the bridle joint. These are fairly easy to make and will spice up any project needing cabinet hardware.

Is it just me or does anyone else give his videos a thumbs up before it's over?... Like as soon as it starts. Huge fan thanks!
I agree. But I usually wait until it’s almost over though, just in case analytics picks up stuff like that. His videos are always great! That’s for sure.
Thank you very much. Thats a pretty big compliment.
I don’t even watch them, just thumbs up and move on. Quantity over quality just like a Chinese sweat shop
Pulp Fiction. Terrific movie. Who can forget Travolta's death by pop tart -- and other memorable moments?
Its a neat movie for sure.
Glad you’re still uploading. Love the channel bro.
More to come!
@@MikeFarrington I really disappointed you didn’t say “Glad you’re still DOWNloading!”
@@jeremyspecce Maybe next time!
Good call I'm stealing this idea 😉
It's the one that says
" bad Mike Farrington on it"
Ha! Love it.
What I especially like about your videos is that you seem extremly in control of what you are doing!
Thank you.
So glad to see someone use up wood that most would throw away, just takes a little effort and some imagination. Cheers
Thank you.
I really enjoy watching your videos, very talented! My wife calls you the Bob Ross of Wood Working with how smooth and mellow your voice is.
Ha! Thank you. I grew up watching Bob.
Compliments the top beautifully and really gives it that custom look.
Thank you.
The tee shirt is from a movie about two hitmen who work for PETA. It was called "Pup Fiction." : )
Ha!
Enjoy your videos and humor. And thanks for not groveling and asking me to like, subscribe etc.
Thank you. I figured if someone likes the video they will subscribe and me asking would help my chances.
I wholeheartedly agree, handles are perfect for opening doors and drawers! Nice design Mike, I’ll probably steal this and my wife will think I’m a genius… if she ever stumbles across your channel I’m screwed!
Ha! Thank you, those are some kind words.
Also love that you're a "belt and suspenders kinda gal"
Ha!
I'm a laces and Velcro kinda pal. Great work Mike
Ha! Thank you very much Cory.
My personal fav, Pulp Fiction!
"Check out the big brain on Brad!"
Lol
Ha! Great line.
Yes, I do like them. They complement the grey finish and natural top really well, as well as saving precious resources used in manufactured ones. I'd like to see a build video too.
Thank you.
Another awesome video Mike, you never disappoint. Great craftsmanship behind the wit and humor. I hope the CZcams platform stays relevant for you because so many people love your work.
Thank you. Me too, my videos have been in a slump. Hopefully I can get back on track.
Always happy to see your Videos. Usually I am up very early looking for peace & to a much needed WA recharge. You provide that. Love the drawer pulls. Welcome to Colorado.
Thank you very much.
Another great real-world video showing your latest project.
Thank you.
looks awesome. The natural wood contrast against the grey is perfect.
Thank you! Cheers!
Those are good looking handles.
Thank you.
Great use of scrap Mike and agree on the contrast between the end grain and face grain. Always enjoy your videos!
Thank you Mike.
Never even watched the whole video before comment...looking at these is one of those moments where I say why didnt i think of that! awesome idea sir!!
Thank you very much.
looking forward to the build video
Thank you. It'll be out soon.
Beautiful pull. 100% agree on the decision not to introduce another material/color to the pallet.
Thank you.
Pulp Fiction, and then a Princess Bride shirt! My man! Also, lovely handles, good balance, really nice!
Thank you. Good eye on the second shirt.
I love your videos and always learn something. Thanks!
Thank you Kim.
Wow, those came out amazing. Your work with hand tools is so amazingly precise. I'm always in awe of your work.
Thank you very much!
Great to see you back again after long absence. Hope you all been keeping safe.
Good to see the detail & intricate accuracy in drawer pulls rather than off the shelf, big box stuff.
Thank you.
B-E-A-UTIFUL JOB, yet again. Never disappointed
Thank you.
Cmon realese the build video!
Great one
Thank you. I'm working on it.
Nice work again sir, top job👍🏻
Thanks Paul.
I love how you can just take a piece of scrap like that and turn it into beautiful craftsmanship. I wish I could mill down timber like you but all I’ve got is my table saw for now 😅
Thank you. I started with just a table saw. It took me a few years, but eventually I was able to get a small jointer and planer. Keep at it.
Oh boy, Pulp Fiction has become an old time reference. I feel old
You and me both.
Dude 1994 was amazing for movies:
Leon the professional, Shawshank, In the mouth of madness, clerks, lion king, Speed, hudsucker proxy, renaisance man, reality bites, True Lies, The Crow, Usual Suspects, interview with a vampire, new nightmare, Stargate, maverick, Ed wood, star trek generations, double dragon, clear & present danger...I guess pulp fiction came out, but dang...good year for movies.
Also, thank you for prompting me to look at movies of that year to see if you were right about that being a best one. It was a fun ride.
Looking at your list. 94 was pretty darn good.
The 1990s in general had amazing films and it was a response to the 1980s PC culture. So hopefully we can a cultural response to the current PC culture.
I remember going to see films in the 1990s and not having a clue what they were going to be about. You could get an absolutely stinker or you could come out feeling you just seen something special.
FIlms like LA confidential, Seven, Unforgiven, Heat, Silence of the Lambs, The Big Lebowski, Trainspotting, Millers crossing and Carlito's Way are all fantastic 1990s movies that tend to get forgotten.
Someday I hope we can go back to films like that.
Wow. Seeing you cut those tenons with the bandsaw looks so obvious when you see it, but it has never occurred to me to do it that way. I can see a change in my methodology going forward.
Thank you.
Nice use of the bridle joint, simple and elegant. Good job as always.
Thank you. Its really one of the best woodworking joints, from small to huge, it works great.
Matching the countertop, that’s gorgeous
Thank you.
Always great to watch a Mike Farrington comedy session disguised as wood working 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Your precision on this build reminded me of your kumiko panels, top notch! 💖🌞🌵😷
Thank you Suzi.

GREAT WORK. KEEP IT UP AND MORE!!!
Thank you. I'm working on it.
Excellent design and execution Mike! I can see myself using these on some cabinets in the future!
Thank you Matt.
You can cut round tortillas on the mesa saw into triangles too. Loved that joke - glad to see another video Thanks.
Ha! Maybe that'll be my next video.
M-Faz is back. Always a sharp cut. Great design, pro execution. Good lad :)
Thank you very much.
The shirt is Pulp fiction! Loved watching your process yet again. I was contemplating doing this very thing in the near future and wondering about how I was going to do it. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much. You nailed it.
Beautiful! And much appreciate the quality of your work. I think they would also look cool done in two different wood colours.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great looking desk Mike. Love the handles too. 👍
But you know what . . . regardless what you are working on I just like watching and listening to you work.
You have such a compelling personality that you could be sanding dirt and I'd probably watch it.
Keep on keeping on Mike. Thrive!
Thank you very much. Ha, I like that sanding dirt, that's about as boring as it gets.
I really would have gone with off the shelf metal handles, but seeing how they tie in with the countertop I get it now. It is a subtle, but important design aesthetic you achieved here. Well done.
Thank you very much.
I wouldn’t of
Love the color contrast - great combo.
Glad you like it!
Very neat idea for handles! I had just this evening been pondering something similar for some drawers I need to make -- similar overall size and shape, squared, with long grain in all 3 parts. But alas, having no band saw, your bridle joint idea might be a bit of a challenge for me. Instead, I thought of joining 3 boards about 10" long like a trough, wide bottom, short sides, with the sides butted so as to cover the wide board's edge. The grain orientation would be running across the trough and up the sides, instead of the length of it. Then another trough with the sides not covering the wide board's edge, but sitting on top of it. Oh, and both troughs ending up the same exact overall dimensions (so the first one has a narrower wide piece and wider side pieces, and _vice versa_ for the other one). Glue up the two troughs using no brads or mechanical fasteners.
Now put each trough on the table saw sled, and slice off U-shaped handle pieces that are half the thickness of the boards used in the troughs, like slicing up a loaf of bread. Finally, take a slice from each trough, sand the sawed surfaces flat without rounding the edges (I very much like your adhesive sandpaper stuck on the flat workbench idea), and glue them together, so that the corners have the appearance of half laps. These laminated half lap handles seem like they would be pretty quick to batch out, and with some good sanding before laminating them to erase the saw marks, I bet the glue line would be nearly invisible (depending on how it aligns with the wood grain).
And come to think of it, a bridle joint handle would be possible with this method as well -- just cut slices that are 1/3 the thickness of the boards, and laminate 3 pieces (would have to start with one of the troughs twice the length of the other one, to avoid running out of parts).
Well thought out for sure. Building things requires a careful examination of the tools and methods at your disposal, then selecting the best way forward. I say give it a try.
Great job Mike. Love all your work!!!
Thanks a bunch!
elegant and well executed as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice. Love the look of those handles on the painted cabinets
Thanks 👍
Mike, You produce the best videos.
Thank you very much Kenneth.
Fine work Mike! Looking forward to the desk build video.
Thank you. Its on the way.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides. Great movie, although probably not a great one to watch with the in-laws! Thanks for the vid. Cheers, David
Love that line. Agreed, pick carefully who you watch that movie with.
Thanks for posting Mike, Just came across your channel and every video is not only full of great jokes, but has some valuable woodworking tips in there as well!
I appreciate that!
Jesus I never would think a wood handle would impress me but these are awesome.
And your shirt referenced one of my favorite movies. That Ezekiel 25:17 passage quoted by Jules before he capped someone was terrifying. 😂
Thank you very much. Yes, great passage.
Handles look great. Nice way to use up some scrap wood from a project and make custom handles.
Thanks 👍
Mike, as always, I appreciate your videos. Humor, great workmanship and movie/music references in every one. Love that Big Kahuna Burger!
Everyone else - get the tapered sanding disk. It is a game changer. I love mine.
Thank you very much Dan. I could use some tasty beverage to wash down my burger.
They turned out great
Thank you.
I picked up that sanding disc thinking it would be "kinda cool". I was very wrong. It is really, really cool. I would say more useful to face frame success than a pocket hole jig!
That is very cool to hear Eric. Thank you.
Liked the look of that furniture, waiting on that video.😊
Thank you. I am busy editing that video as we speak.
Ok...Mike you're ALWAYS awesome, let's be perfectly clear about that. You're skills are ALWAYS impressive! However this video...I think the dry humor was the star of the show!!!!! Again loved every but of it but wanted to recognize the true artistry in this video. Well done and always look forward to each and every video you release. No shame in admitting I have binge watched your videos more than once lol
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
I've been looking for someone to follow with a style similar to what I like, and I really like your stuff. Great job, I'll be following. Plus I keep seeing new jigs I've never seen before that I now "need" 😂
Thank you.
I never tire of that sweet, sweet narration. Awesome stuff as always. Cheers! (Edit: and a Princess Bride T-Shirt too?! Epic!)
Thank you. Good eye on t he Princess Bride T-shirt. Such a good movie.
Excited to see the desk build👍
Thank you. I am busy editing that video as we speak.
I have the same door template.. it saves so much time.. great project
Thank you. Its a neat jig for sure.
Looks great!
Thank you.
Very helpful! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
You're a real character lol I love it. Thanks for the laugh. Great video. I'm going to do this. Long handles cost so much. Good job
Thank you very much.
nice handles
Thanks 👍
Can't wait for the full build video!
Thank you. Its on the way.
Very nice Mike. You just gave me the inspiration for the handles on the desk I'm starting for my wife. In my case they'll be Walnut
That is great to hear. Let me know how they turn out.
@@MikeFarrington thanks Mike. I'm still waiting to see you do something with that Rosewood I sent you.
@@warrenmusselman9173 It'll be used on my next piece, a credenza.
I'm sure a lot of us wish we had to traipse between the band saw and table saw...mine is more like a studio bathroom, sitting on the throne you can open and close the door, wash your hands and run a tub of water...lol
Ha! I like the analogy.
Beautiful work, thank you 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Shirt is from Pulp Fiction. Love your vids. Thanks for making them.
Correct! You win! Thank you very much.
Outstanding.
Thank you.
I don't know what everyone else is doing here but pretty sure I am Mike Farrington's number one fan
Ha! Thank you Tom.
@@MikeFarrington 😍
come for the woodworkery, stay for the voiceover
Ha! Thank you.
@@MikeFarrington love your stuff. keep up the good...video
@@drewdawson44 Thank you.
Handles look great. I reckon a brass dowel through the joint would look cool or a contrasting material of some sort.
Thank you. Thats a neat idea.
PSA: Everyone needs one of those sanding discs. I thought about it for months before pulling the trigger and finally caved and got one. This thing is a game changer! It will literally pay for itself on your first job with it. Guaranteed.
Thank you very much. Great feedback.
Beautiful.🌟
Thank you.
love ❤️ your videos
Thank you.
Nice video. Also have the same Cobra Kai shirt. Good choice.
Ha! One of my favorite shirts.
When I was doing my schooling I had to make my own handles, but that’s because I didn’t have money to buy them & I didn’t want to use knobs.
My ones didn’t have joinery in it though, they mimicked the popular at the time long arch style.
Thanks for the reminder👍🏼
Just like Vincent Vega says - "It's the little differences. I mean they got the same sh*t over there that they got here, but it's just -- it's just there it's a little different." 😉
Thank you. Great quote.
Look great
Thank you.
I'd like them even if they didn't open the doors and drawers. Pulp Fiction - not just one of the better films of 1994, one of the best films of all time. (IMO),
Thank you. It is a really neat movie, for sure.
Great finale to the project. The choice of material and the sizing are spot on. I was surprised how relatively simple the construction was, with the heavy lifting done by the band saw. Whouda thunk it? I can even picture a laminated variant (three plies) of these, perhaps, with two types of wood, say maple and cherry.
Thank you. I like the idea of laminating a few strips, that would be an efficient way to make these.
You know what they call a Mike Farrington video with no song recommendation in Europe?
A bad video?
Theres a royale with cheese joke in there somewhere...niiice.
@@Conan_Obrien Ha! Now I'm hungry.
The "belt and suspenders kinda gal" line put me in mind of the old Monty Python Lumberjack Song.
_He chops down trees. He wears high heels. Suspendees and a braw....?_
Ha! I'm a Monty Python fan.
That (desk and pulls) look very nice.
Thank you.
As always great design and workmanship, I prefer slightly more rounded corners but that irrelevant because it has to match your style.
Thank you. Agreed, sometimes compromises are made to match a style.
I'm 3 days late but Pulp Fiction... What a classic.
Also I want that desk in my office. Ship it abroad?😂
Great movie for sure. Ha! Shipping would not be cheap, that's for sure.
If you are doing this and really want to make the different cabinet doors looks special you can make the door handles all different sizes and shapes. You can also add different features to the doors as well.
Thank you. Good point.
I think you meant to say "the" best movie of 94, as well as one of the best of all time.
Ha! I think you're right.
A Tarantino classic - Pulp Fiction, of course. Also - I feel that you would be a great audio book narrator.
Nailed it. Thank you. I have looked into it, I think its one of those things where you need to know the right person to get your foot in the door.
Been a fan of all your videos and your craftsmanship for quite some time now. Wondering if you'd be willing to make a set of cornhole boards with all of your experience?!?
Thank you. You mean as a video, or you want me to build you some corn hole boards?
I like it.
Thank you.
very nice...stoked to hear you and Marc will be building something together. \MM/
Is that public news?
