    About the Project:
    Join me as we create a map rich with natural beauties, distant towns and a bustling metropolis. The aim is to create an island that feels as big as a state or territory, including vast biomes, mountains, rivers and an endless coastline. Set in Australia and New Zealand (maybe an island in between), this map takes inspiration from open world video games and the way in which the game devs create such immersive environments, such as GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Mafia 4 maps. To take it one step further, every thing on the map should feel unique and distinct. No city district, town or mountain should feel or look the same.

    You should call the beach ‘Broughty’ (Br-aw-tay), since the city is called Dundee it gives a good nod to the real life beach in Dundee called Broughty Ferry beach. Plus it sounds simmilarish to Bronte beach in Sydney. It’s good to see you back on Oceania though.

    - Love to see well-thought-out public transport! Oceania is going to have world-class metro-system! And love all the industrial railway details around it all, great, characteristic and authentic infrastructure!!
    - On the train lines you could make s-bahn/rapid-transit/regional lines, would make it amazing.
    - Why is there no intercity trains on your lines yet?

    the custom station looks great, you should add some old brick buildings in the dead space. i don’t know about australia but in london, we have a lot of old signalling houses that have been abandoned as it is all automated now, and they’re usually just left there covered in plants and graffiti and i think it would look perfect

    • @briannem.6787
      @briannem.6787 Před 2 lety +3

      Yes, we have abandoned signalboxes in some areas. Usually near intercity lines, the suburban areas too. The city circle doesn't have any prominent signalboxes, even though there's a set of points at St. James for off-peak storage. I guess there was a room there at some point in a staff-only area for controlling it. (and being in a staff-only area means it is unseen)

    Love that you're using London's DLR - I used to get it daily to my job in Canary Wharf! If you're into TfL's props, the Overground was set-up on converted old freight lines in east London; could be some useful inspiration

    Good to see Oceania back!
    I could see the blue line becoming a circle line, extending out via the stadium along the highway to stanley rd. and then along the train tracks untill turning back west, north of university (maybe along the park/highway?) untill reaching the harbor station again.
    It seems to me, some old train tracks went along the blue line from harbor to the red line interchange and then following what has become the highway now, untill reaching the train tracks at stanley road.
    With the city growing, they diverted the tracks for passenger trains into the city for the new central station and later extended them across the bridge, while the cargo from and to the harbor north and south of the downtown was serviced by the old track.
    With the new industrial harbor being built in the south, it became useless and was repurposed as the blue metro line and some part of that space was used for building the highway south of downtown.
    With all that said, the only newly built branch of the route would be the branching of north of university and maybe the small diversion from the original route to the stadium.
    If the city didn't have the money to complete the circle back in the day, the blue line might have become a U-shaped line, terminating north of dundee, maybe somewhere around the big shopping mall after coming up along the train tracks from stanley road.
    I see how Dundee managed to get up a decent subway system with minimal investment by using a lot of existing infrastructure. The yellow line using the central station and merging with the existing blue line. The Red line would have been constructed together with the development of the new harbor area and therefore saved a lot of money by being planed and built with the rest of the infrastructure (south of the intersection station anyways, maybe it terminated there first, before being extended later)
    Anyways, just my two cents thinking about the system and how it could have organically grown over the years.

    I think the green line can terminate at the university, and the blue line can go across the harbour since it is the newest edition to the metro, building a cross-harbour tunnel is probably necessary for public transport to keep up with the booming population across the other side. Something similar to Sydney's metro harbour tunnel which is still under construction.

    Off the red line, at the industrial stop next to the bridge -- area is screaming for one of those business park hotels that are purely for like, one night business travelers for one of the local companies visiting, etc. Could do a stop, a nice hotel near the bridge, but it still serve the industry/business region. For example, there's a few hotels in Mahwah, New Jersey that exist purely to serve the U.S. headquarters for BMW and Jaguar Land Rover. In Atlanta, however, Porsche has built its own hotel at its HQ. Because it's Porsche.

    Really happy to see Dundee again. Regarding the Green Line, it already connects to the Red/Yellow, so connecting it again by the Uni makes little sense. If you want to cross the water with it, I would recommend sending it by/under the big bridge instead. Then the blue can extend to terminate at the next stop you suggested. This would make the routes cover a big area, whilst not cross-contaminating too much. Also, thanks for the shoutout! :)

  • @Sassy.Sasquatch
    @Sassy.Sasquatch Před 2 lety +1

    I think the dead space by the custom curved station would be useful for some very tight city parking. It would have to be a narrow and fairly steep slope to get there from the side road but I think it would be very realistic to have a much parking as possible especially next to the station. I would have the parking on that entire flat area even under the bridge a little and have a direct path connect to the platform so it's useful too 😊

    Honestly, I'm not a fan of the two lines running together on the same tracks. It is unrealistic, which is fine if it is to serve a cool idea, but at least imho, it's not cool it looks wonky. And it will cause the problem of trains stacking up, I guarantee. I think that more realistic and usefull way of doing it would be to have the green line crossing the blue underneath, of course connect them as a transfer station, and either stop the green line there, or put another stop on the bridge peninsula near the docks. That would also give you a possibility for a future expasion of the metro network to the other side of the bay, rather than using the blue line as you mentioned.

      I know there are multi-level metro stations on the workshop. I have no idea if they work, and they probably don't have nice rendered interiors. Two metro stations next to each other would be the next best option, failing someone making an asset. In reality, Town Hall station has 2 levels with 6 platform. The Metro stations under construction in Sydney serve one line, so only 2 platforms.

      Hong Kong has four lines that go under its bay (in two tunnels). There's also three highways underwater. It does cost a lot, but in some places it's worth doing it. As Dundee is inevitably quite Victorian (1800s-ish) as an Australia city, it's worth looking at British Victorian-era engineering, such as the Severn Tunnel (7km long, and longest underwater tunnel from 1883-1987). So it's possible in every era.
