I've posted this on Tyrrell's Classic Workshop as well; just a little piece of trivia. Like the F40; the engine cover of the F50 was made out of Lexan. The only company in Italy that pioneered the thermoforming of polycarbonates and able to cast the engine cover happens to be in my home town in northern Italy. It's called Liras and is still in business. I strongly believe they still have the original mouldings somewhere at the factory.

I saw my first F50 in person back in ~95-96 when I was working as a menial laborer at UPS (while in college) and had a good friend who worked his day job taking care of the car garage of the largest car dealer in our area. He somehow snuck us in to see the car collection (worth 10 mil back then). His job was to maintain of all those cars and we pretty much just gawked at that F50. It was shocking, carbon fiber just didn't exist and we kept playing with the gas cap because it weighed about as much as a paper clip. What an absolute dream job and man... that car back then was like looking at a new Saturn 5 rocket.

I didn't even care about it. My uncle was like 'are you sure you don't wanna check it out?' It was the Ferrari F50 inside the checker box, the BBurago toy. I will never forget the feeling. Mr. Lee surprisingly didn't mention the reason behind the 349 production number. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo (then President of Ferrari) declared Ferrari had a worldwide market for 350 F50s- so they would only produce 349...
I'm not sure Mr. Lee will ever own "The Big Ten." The 288 GTO is probably my favorite car of all time, and if my memory serves me correctly, every example was red.
