Wow I didnt realise they made that much difference, I new it would make a difference if they were wet or actually muddy, but dusty wow that made so much difference,😀
After nearly every run, I'll remove the tires off my truck and spray them with simple green while I clean and dry the rest of my rig. I wipe the simple green off the tires and then dry them. Even with tires that I've had for over a year, they remain super-sticky and look brand new - of course, I don't think the benefits last longer than a few minutes while out on the trail, but I love keeping my stuff clean so I'll continue to do it.
I just run mine true morning dew and then full trothle so i get most of it out😁 i like the slightly dirty used look
Thanks for the info, great to see my fave truck back in a video!
Yeah awesome, appreciate you sharing. This is the beauty of the hobby. I'll be watching for more
Great video gonna start cleaning my tires more often. I'm out in Colorado where there's a lot of rocks.
Thank you for the experiment.
My buggy racing, yes I keep em clean. My crawler not so much, but it's my relaxing rc time, not a stress filled race day.
You know one thing i like alot about your channel is all the testing you do great job!
a clean truck = a clean run
Yea here at Markham park in south florida we noticed cleaned tires do much better on wood obstacles but like you said they dont stay clean very long. Jagged rocks dont seem to make a difference but smooth rocks yea theres a difference too. Good video!
Great info 👍👍
Also clean new tires!
If you come to the UK it just rains so much that everything is super slippery I clean my tyres but it only makes a difference for a very short time as it soon picks up more slick wet clay and makes the rocks slippery again . Thanks for your channel it made me get back into the hobby after a 20 year break 🤫
Steve Yates cool man. Glad to have you back. With scalers in the dirt it won’t last long for sure and wet anything gets slick.
You forget that we in the west/southwest rarely get our rocks pressure washed by regular rainfall as you do elsewhere. We had some significant rain on Thanksgiving 2019 and the next day the increased overall traction enjoyed in my 'rock garden' was significant. Months (or just days)of accumulated dust on the rocks under a 7+lb RC truck acts much like sand on finished concrete does under your family car. I have found spraying a 'Simple Green' solution, then soon rinsing with H2O keeps my Canyon Trail tires sticky black.
So it’s not as sticky out there as I think? I’ve heard traction is amazing out there as compared to here. We get rain and all but our humidity also brings mildew and other slickening stuff.
I like your videos man fun content. What part of Florida do you live in
The funniest part about this I just washed a set of my pitbulls after crawling today right before I seen this video. I do it with pitbull rc4wd and Proline they all make a big difference for me and just look better I think I'm a little OCD LOL great video thanks
Cleaning them up before bringing them in also keeps the storage area cleaner too.
@@ExocagedRC couldn't agree more 👍
My excuse for being OCD too , my rcs in my dinning room I mean rc shop lol
@@paulclancy2404 haha same here buddy, its a good habit to have takes 20 mins or so to clean ur rig up after running it parts tend to last longer and gives u the excuse to work on them in the house 😁👌
Definitely yes!
Clean with WD40 Big difference they get much more sticky, I coat all my tires lightly with WD40 all the time before I go out and run works like a charm.
I've never tried that maybe I will, works on any tire?
@@ExocagedRC I have a climb video showing how good WD40 works..it works on most all tires but some of those cheap silica type compound ones...Coat your tires let it dry in for a while before ruining your truck ..do a quick test you will see if you just smear a light barely anything dry coat on a tire you will instantly feel how much more grippy it will be. czcams.com/video/JlHoqxT7ICA/video.html
YUP-YUP-YUP!! tires heavy on the silicone in the rubber, none to barely.
more rubber it'll soften the skin of the tires (not super deep) and they'll grab really good. on road foam rubber tires, off road buggy tires, crawler tires... other thing it does.. WD = water displacing, dirt and dust stick to moisture more than it does to WD wetted, including SNOW won't cake up so the tread lugs clear themselves quick+easy for quite a while. seems totally counter-intuitive, a "lubricant" as a traction compound?!! but oh heck yeah it WORKS! we were all doing it mid-late 80's.
Like you were saying in the intro. It depends on a ton of variable issues, and what you are looking for. I would say "yes" if you were an indoor crawler with no dirt, sand, or mud. Once you introduce mud, sand, and dirt I would say it more than likely will not make a difference. I can say for a fact cleaning your tires will certainly keep them from getting hard. What ever floats your boat.
Wesley‘s bleach white works very good too. Leaves tires very sticky. I Also use Wesleys Bleach white to clean white powder haze off new tires. Thanks for video. Good info 👍🏻👍🏻
Wesleys Bleach white? My hyrax are covered with that haze stuff. I’ll give that a try thank you.
If you're up to it, I'd love to see a similar test with WD-40. I use it on just about every set of tires I buy now - either spray and rub in or let them soak in it overnight (cheaper/stiffer tires need the soak). It works great to soften up the rubber and give you more grip. In my opinion, anyway! :)
A always wash tires when they're brand new out of the package. Using Lava hand soap and a vegetable brush.
I was crawling rocks today and was wondering exactly about this topic. Tires were full of earth and dust from yesterday, but i wasnt in the mood for cleaning 🙈 but in fact, they only stay clean for a few minutes, so i dont think its absolutely necessary.
I clean my predator hyraxes after each run and man they get so sticky it’s so helpful to start off with fresh tires every time.
Top video! And no Ounzes and Fahrenheit needed, either ;)
Where I live in Australia has greatly varied terrain and doesn't take long to get freshly clean tyres blanketed in dust..
I think cleaning tyres and truck keeps everything in good health but unless your using on an indoor course the super stickiness ain't staying. Much like applying grip compound to buggy and sc tyres on clay it's only good for a short while...imo anyways
Awesome to see this tyre test put into some footage, the drift really suprised me.
Really appreciate the time and effort you put into testing and info for us all..
Cheers mate 👍
Thank you and I'm reading comments learning a lot about different terrains, yeah I have to agree the sticky would last longer on a clean indoor course without all of natures dust.
By out west you must mean California. I live in Washington state and our rocks are usually covered in moss and are wet much of the year.
yeah I'm thinking west like Utah and places like that, you guys get as much rain as we do in Florida, always a chance of rain here.
I've had my trx4 bronco goin on 2.5 years now and the canyons are showing some good wear, but I'm gonna wash them and see what happens. Video?
I clean my tires and truck after every run, and it just keeps tires nice and gummy but it only last for so long once they’re dirty it’s over 😂 but my truck does perform a lot better clean and it also just looks sexier lol
If you clean the tires that will be more sticky and looking new I clean my austar hobby 1.9 super swamper rocks tire and it sticks more to my hand and it sticks to paper
You must not have been out west, we are VERY dusty and dry. VERY little grip. the east coast is more damp, wet clean...
I have not. Only heard stories of everything being so grippy.
@@ExocagedRC yea i live in VERY northern california and its dry more then wet and HOT!!! and often windy also. our terrain is usually smoother though... because its sand blasted by the wind.
Would the body on this rig fit on a Redcat Gen8vAxe platform? I just don't like the Scout body. Thanks
Purpose of the jack stands on your shelf. For cool factor? Or do the serve to keep flat spots off the tires? I’m new to dc crawling
Chris Gardner a bit of both. They look good and keep the tires from flat spotting.
Definitely not worth doing here in Florida. I do clean them every now and then just to clean them. It would definitely work nice on an indoor course 👍
I clean mine with a toothbrush and Dawn's dish soap..
I'm curious if the result is the same with a not so sticky tire. The G8 compound is very sticky, but a tire like in the TRX4 Blasser stock would it be the same.
I have the proline G8 kx's km3s and the predator kx's km3 and hyraxes RC4WD and Pitbull I clean them all after I get them dirty and they are all sticky especially the comp compound pitbulls it makes a big difference I just use Dawn dish soap
@@jonesnrc4359 Dawn is also what I used and then just let them air dry. But it is interesting, one guy said his TRX Canyons were plenty sticky after a good washing, I have a set of them that are off a first release TRX so they have some age on them, I may give them a wash and see how they do.
I see what you are getting at, but that's not what I call a dirty tire.
Also, what foams do you run? I have to imagine you're not running a two stage.
Stock foams they came with
@@ExocagedRC Ahh ok, that would explain the tires getting so severely deformed in some of your more technical course lines. I'd be really interested to see what some of your higher-rated tires could do with a two-stage foam. I'm certain it would be ludicrous to do a video based on a single subscriber's suggestion. Even if you could test it and leave me a message on your findings. Thanks again for your response and time. Tiny trucks rule!
try having them full of mud and climbing wet and slippery rocks
LoL yeah no tire climbs when gummed up
Good Morning!!! You need me to send you some red clay to dirty up them tires a little better? It will quickly add 4mm to your tire diameter.
I’d LOVE to get some red clay! It’s really expensive to get here so I’m stuck with dirt sand grass ( weeds ) and roots. Oh and concrete.
@@ExocagedRC Care about some snow ? I've got a couple metric tons in my driveway right now, i'll gladly put it in boxes and send it your way ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Dave Racine 😂 I wish I could get some snow in Florida!! I’m going to Atlanta Ga for Christmas so hopefully I’ll get lucky and find some. I will have a few trucks with me just in case.
@@ExocagedRC When you come up to atl bring your buckets. Lord knows I could never afford to ship that heavy stuff. And don't be talking that snow crap. J/K we usually don't get snow its more like ice and slush. And no its def. not safe to eat the yellow slush either. :D
@@jeremybaity7002 LOL if you see any snow driving on this channel you will know I had to drive a loooong way to get it!!
Doesn't help much here on the west lol.
Are you protesting the Hyraxs or what?
So far these are working better than the hyrax. Perhaps I need to put them against each other.
@@ExocagedRC Thanks for the response. The only reason I push the Hyrax tire is their popularity. I'd be really interested to learn what works best on a mostly stone/crete course. If there's something better, I wanna get my hands on those tires. Thanks again.
