      @@BrooksAirheadGarage I eat only healthy stuff Brook! BTW - I think that you are a software guy but I am a Mechanical Engineer and I must say that some of BMWs design practices surprise me (the cable operated brake master cylinder on early RS bikes, the poor accessibility of the oil filter and bolts that cannot be withdrawn until other bolts are removed etc.). For such a fine engineering company....these poor practices just puzzle me.

      @@assessor1276 Well, I have two degrees in Mechanical Engineering, solar engineering, oil & gas well maintenance, chemical engineering, ran my own software company, worked in storage systems and networking and have some experience in sales, marketing, finance, corporate strategy and technical training. In short, I never could keep a job for very long. 🙂
      As you know, all design is a set of compromises across multiple dimensions. BMW, as is the case with other manufacturers went through periods where finance called the shots, and where engineering called the shots.
      As to the ATE disk brake system with under the tank reservoir, they didn't want the reservoir to break if the bike went down. That created a compromise that showed up in soft brakes due to stretching of the cable. They corrected that in 1981 when they used Brembo brakes with "piss cup" reservoirs on the handlebars.
      The oil filter, particularly with the oil cooler, is a real kludge. They took something simple and made it complex with a very expensive failure mode, the infamous white O-ring. I can not defend that design.
      That said, I have made many design decisions, with the best of intentions, that I later regretted. 🙂

    Does the volume of oil held in the drive shaft have a seal? Or can it migrate up to the rubber boot at the gearbox join?

    Your ability to adapt to clearances is a good talent,hard on wrenches though
    Can those be purchased at harbor freight?

    great vido!!! Thank U for it a lot ;) I just wanted to know, how to get that swing arm removed without screwing anything up... the funny thing about is, that I´m sitting here in Germany as a German citizen and had to look in the US to get help and instructions on a German motorcicle... XXD
