    Good details but removing the top nut isn’t the spring under a lot of pressure? I hope that you show the method to re-assemble
    Thanks

      Hi Gaylord. There is some spring pressure on the top nut, but not a great deal. That said, I keep my face away from it when I am loosening the top nut. I will document assembly as well. But, I just press down on the nut and turn it to engage a couple threads. If need be, I stand on the foot pegs and lean down on the nut with my fingers to get it started.

      What about the steering head bearings?

      @@Hodado I’ll remove the outer races and replace them after I get the frame powder coated.

    Hi, thanks for the video. Did your top nuts have orings on them where the threads end at all??

    • @BrooksAirheadGarage
      @BrooksAirheadGarage  Před 2 lety

      Pee Ta Pee Ta, no, but there is a flat washer (part# 31 42 1 240 179).

      @@BrooksAirheadGarage thanks for the response. I think we might be talking about something different. I mean the top nut that screws into the top of the fork leg. Somehow mine have an oring on them but I can’t them to screw back into the fork leg. I think the top nut is part number 31 42 1 241 661.

      @@witheyman123 Yes and there is a flat washer (the part number I stated) under it that seals it against the top of the fork tube.

      @@BrooksAirheadGarage ok ta! I did find it eventually on some schematics for other models but couldn’t find it on the R80 ST. I guess people have just made their own changes over the years. I might just run it without the orings and washer to start with and see how it goes.
