  • Making the 5 platonic solids (tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron and icosahedron) from solid wood using miter saw / table saw.
    At 4:29 the angle is 108° instead of 144°.

    I was so confused when he said he needed a triangle to make a cube. My jaw hit the floor when I realized he machined a cube inside of a triangle

    Thanks! This just helped me figure out the angles needed to cut out some tetrahedron shaped wooden dice for a homemade Royal Game of UR set. Deeply appreciated as I had mistakenly thought ALL angles were 60 degrees when I started.

      @@marcuskc1 I hope it worked out well for you. Sadly, as far as I can tell there is no way to make the tetrahedron shaped dices without having a relatively large amount of waste offcuts.
      Also, I ended up chamfering all the edges by rubbing them along sand paper to make it a little more comfortable to hold.

    This is really good!
    I'd like to see the regular 3D stars (Kepler-Poinsot polyhedra) next, but those seem to be pretty much an impossible nightmare to do

    The dodecahedron is actually pretty easy with a band saw. If you convert each face of a cube to a rooftop shape at the right angle, with each face's rooftops pointed in a different direction, you get a dodecahedron in just 12 cuts. It's also possible to cut an Icosahedron from a slightly oblique dodecahedron.

    How to make a cube? You start with a triangle, make a Mitsubishi logo, turn it into a maraca and crack that bad boy open like a kinder egg and bam, a baby cube.....
