Kate Bush Calls Her Music a 'Strong Force' for Children (Flashback)

  • Thanks to 'Stranger Things,' Kate Bush and hit '80s songs, such as 'Running Up That Hill,' are back on the music charts! ET is looking back at an interview with the singer from 1985, where she opened up about her album, 'Hounds of Love.' As someone who broke onto the scene when she was young -- and around the same age of the Netflix sci-fi drama's teenage ensemble -- Kate explained why music can be so important to kids. She also discussed making the music video for 'Cloudbusting' and working with Donald Sutherland.

I “discovered” Kate Bush as a 15 year old nearly 30 years ago. Last week, my 13 year old asked me if I had ever heard “Running up That Hill” because she loved it after hearing it in “Stranger Things”. How cool is it when you and your child can relate as teenagers?

And I was also surprised to find out that it was released on the late 70s, because I thought it came out in like the 80s or smth. The funny thing is she hadn't even read the book when she wrote the song. She wrote it at 18 after watching the BBC adaptation on tv. She wrote "The Man with The Child in His Eyes" at THIRTEEN, and recorded it at 16. She was a real find, being so talented so young :-)
