    I'm so happy for Kate, she deserves this so much! I wish they would've shown stuff from The Dreaming in this video since that's her most innovative work, instead of only playing the more pop-oriented songs from literally just two of her albums. They really could've made a better summary...

    If you're American, you may not be aware of Kate's runaway global success since the '70s across Europe, Canada, Australia and more. Over a period of SIX DECADES, she placed 27 singles in the top 40 in her native UK (a third of those made the top ten). In 2014, she put ELEVEN of her albums in the UK top 50 AT THE SAME TIME, a feat matched only by The Beatles and Elvis. She was the first British female to score a #1 hit with a song she wrote herself ... and the first British female to debut an album at #1. She's released only one album that did not make the UK top 5 (that one only made it to #6). Despite all of this, she is most known for her enigmatic and unique songwriting, for her otherworldly production, for wresting control over her work from her record company, and for being a standalone artist who will not compromise her vision. She's received raves and admiration from Elton John, Annie Lennox, Duran Duran, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Sarah McLachlan, Bjork, Stevie Nicks, Cher, Coldplay, Lorde, FKA Twigs, Lindsey Buckingham, Courtney Love, Sinead O'Connor, Loreena McKennitt, Prince, Tori Amos, and many more. She's a musician's musician, obviously, and a writer's writer. So if you don't know her: stop complaining that she's not worthy, and get busy listening to her work! :)

    This is wonderful! My wife and I met 40 years ago because we are both huge Kate Bush fans, thinking we were the only ones in the American Midwest who had ever heard of her. My wife is battling cancer now, and she's counting herself lucky that she's lived to see this, and this compilation actually brought her to tears. Thank you.

      I'm sorry to read of your wife's illness. Her tears are surely a testament to the extraordinary power of music in our lives. As a fellow Kate fan (and American, though east-coast-er) since the 1980s, I'm thrilled also at her induction and resurgence of Running Up That Hill and all the respect being paid her, though I think your wife's reaction is the perhaps the greatest tribute an artist could ask for. Bless you and your family.

    I know the R&R Hall of Fame was created in and is mainly an institution of and for U.S. musicians, so it's not as easy for artists from other countries to be inducted. Kate Bush is a prodigy and a a true genius, she's probably more highly respected by legendary bands and artists than almost any of her peers in decades. It's a little sad that it took featuring a song on Stranger Things to finally get her inducted, but at long last we can be thankful she's in the Hall of Fame. I can't think of anyone more qualified, overdue, and deserving of this than Kate Bush.

    I am a professional musician and I am indebted to Kate Bush for the way in which she has inspired me for over thirty eight years. Both mysticism and integrity stand at the heart of her work. She stands alone in her continuing ability to explore territories that are completely new. You may or may not know that the radio microphones we see today were something that she first asked to be invented in her only European tour in 1979. She asked the engineer to make a microphone that she didn't have to carry. So the microphone was made attached to a metal coat hanger!

      Probably not as her reputation has been growing over the years. While always valued by other musicians she seems much more popular with younger critics. You only have to look at Rolling Stone who were real haters of her music back in the day but have put her high up in their relative rankings for singers and albums. RYM has had 3 of her songs among the best 25 of all time for the past 3 years. She didn't have any such recognition 10 years ago in the US. She has long been considered one of the very top artists in the UK.

    • @robbjmc2
      @robbjmc2 Před 10 měsíci

      I think this is a bit of bassackwards thinking and hear me out ... tho' I don't think the RRHoF is a paragon of creativity and artistic merit, the fact that they nominated her three times prior to Stranger Things speaks very well for them. Most acts never get any nomination, and Kate had (until 2022) never entered the top 25 of the US singles chart (only in the top 40 once!). Nevertheless ... they *wanted* her in ... they knew that her inclusion would legitimize them more than it does her. And that's not a bad thing. Sure, she should've been in twenty years ago, and on her first nomination ... but let's not draw knives over belated accolades.

    I'm not sure "feminism" is really a subject or running theme in Bush's music. It's certainly not a filter that I've ever detected in her work. "Femininity" - very much so, in conveying many and varied iterations of (her) female experience, and narratives from (her) female vantage point. But hey, I guess you gotta insert a political point-score somehow, right?
    In any case, it's nice that she's been acknowledged by the American museum of musical notoriety, but it's small change compared to the indelible legacy she's left on the art of music for the last 4.5 decades. A true artist in every sense - and in ways that the U.S. never bothered valuing before a nearly 40-year old single likely began making some stateside corporation serious coin.

      I think it allowed those Hall of Fame voters who worried about other voters to say, "yeah, Kate!" She's VERY well-known among musicians and songwriters, and her influence is often mentioned in their interviews. So I don't think "Stranger Things" really did that much for her in this respect ... it just garnered more attention to what the RRHoF already knew to be true.

      @@KeizerHedorah Wrong, ST is the primary reason US listeners (ignorant of Kate's accomplishments pre-ST) know her. Kate has always been big world-wide, sans-US. Signed, ignorant-no-more American.
