I love how you emphasize that American Ásatrú has it's own value. I like to think that Asatruar is connected, just like our countries are in Scandinavia. We are brethren folk. We make jokes at each other's expense, but if someone else tries to be cute we close ranks and stand together. I hope our American Ásatrúar brothers and sisters will find find their place around the same table going forward.
I think a lot of Americans seem to think they have to lean heavy into the Scandanavian culture, while at the same time preaching that ancestry holds no weight on this path. I think that is a skewed view of our situation. Acestry does matter because about half of our service is to our ancestors. It's just not required that they came from Scandinavia. It is ok to be proud to be American, and to connect our personal religious paths to our own unique situation here in the "States." I have no love, respect, or tolerance, for Anti-American ideas or rhetoric on or off this path. 🤔 I'm not trying to make this political, this is not about politics, its about not blaming OUR American culture for OUR own personal failures in life. Nor can we use past discretions to justify modern atrocities agains our Americsn brethren.

That one of the reasons Americans *might* emphasize on i.e. Scandinavian culture is because they feel America's failures are not their own failures. And it can mark some distance to the political situation. If there is something to that it makes a lot more sense! I feel connected to several parts of history, like the beginning of the Renaissance in Florence, Italy. I don't need to be Italian to feel that period to ring true. I hold their philosophy, artistry and craftsmanship in high regard regardless. It's a standard to strive for. The same goes for the Norse. It rings true. I strive to achieve some of that wisdom, their insight to the Gods and values I perhaps feel our time has lost. It really doesn't matter what part of the Atlantic you're on.
@@gardvord Yea, the situation is a rough one to understand without being surrounded by it. Thats why I occasionally overreact when some Scandanavian creators come down so hard on Americans. Many are just trying to connect with something that is not the current American situation. Some sort of deniability for where we currently find ourselves. But I also think it is OK to disapprove of our flawed political and social systems and not condemn the entire culture because of it.

But to say that someone can't be Asatru because their ancestory isn't of Northern Europe, is absurd to me. Not all folkist Asatruar are racist, but all Racist Asatruar are folkist. Thats probably not 100% true but it is a glimpse at the problem we should be discussing

Appreciate your insight. I have been my Folk's Gothi for 10 years, but enjoying the discussion you have put out into the ether. Our practice is very similar, but I am finding little nuggets to think about or to consider incorporating into my Kindred's ritual practice. As well, our kindreds have a similar path, as my Kindred was also a member of the Alliance (I believe Northwoods Kindred was gone by then) and 'removed' because we chose to stand with the old gods - taking 3 other kindreds with us. Go with the gods Bodvar!
That seems to be a common theme among Alliance kindreds. Just to clarify, Northwoods Kindred was never in the Alliance. We had already learned that lesson the hard way. We were members of the Alliance in our mother kindred Gjallarhorn. That was long before Northwoods formed.
