Again ... Love your public education outreach work here. I've learned so much already on topics that are way outside my research area. (Especially laying sick in bed for a week.)
A possible future topic? What's the religious studies take on the social control theory of "religious cults / new religious movements"? The most often cited text seems to be Combatting Cult Mind Control. It's very much in the field of social psychology.
What I find interesting? The BITE model proposed in it could be used to, effectively place all new religious movements, but also all religious sects on a sliding scale between "high control "cult"" and low control sect. So, say, the branch Branch Davidians would be at the top and, say, Australian Aboriginal "dreamtime" rituals or other folk religions would be at the bottom.
Your interest in Islam might make you a good person to address this, given the fairly strict practices of religious law in Sunni, Salafi and Ibadi Islam.

I'm a 50 year old man. Raised Lutheran but as life went on ,I realized religion is here to control us. One day, hopefully, the world will realize religion is an imaginary boundary. We live we die and everything in between is a waste if we can't get along. Christians don't like muslims, muslims don't like Christians, how does either have peace after death if hate is all both know?
I have given up believing in God , I hope the world realizes how ignorant both sides have been. We'll never go anywhere with hate.

Same. I'm either agnostic or atheist(I dont think it matters), but religion has shaped so much of our culture and how events play out that one basically has to understand the history of religion to understand why many groups act the way they do. Understanding many geopolitical and humanitarian actions is greatly enhanced by knowing the religious context.

After the death of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), there were two options to seek guidance from. a) The ahlulbayt (the holy household) of the Holy Prophet. b) Others.
The ahlulbayt are those family members of the Holy Prophet who grew up in his blessed lap. They are the people in whose house Islam, Qur'an and the sharia'h was revealed. They are the ones upon whom Muslims are obligated to send blessings in their namaz/Salat/Daily Prayers. Ahlulbayt are those family members of the Holy Prophet about whom Allah testifies to their purity, infallibility and sinlessness in the holy Qur'an. They are the ones who the Holy Prophet left behind him with the holy Qur'an. The Ahlulbayt loved the Holy Prophet the most and he loved them the most. Amongst the ahlulbayt you have people like hazrat Ali who is the gateway to to the city of the knowledge of the Holy Prophet, hazrat Fatimah Zahra who is the chief of the women of the paradise. Imam Hasan and Husain, the two leaders of the youths of paradise. They are the heirs of the knowledge and wisdom of the Holy Prophet.
Who can understand Islam, Qur'an, sharia'h, the sunnah of the Holy Prophet and so on better than the people of the house?
Therefore, after the Holy Prophet Muhammad, the Shi'as seek guidance from the Holy Household of the Holy Prophet.
As regards to the others, we are not sure of the state of their iman, their source of knowledge, information and understanding of Islam.
Muslims in general and the reverts/converts/new Muslims in particular need to study the history of Islam (not of the Muslims). Carry out your own independent and unbiased research on the personalities like the Holy Prophet Muhammad, his beloved daughter Fatimah and their sons Hasan and Husain (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them all).
Explore the school of the ahlulbayt and discover its beauty.
Do not be a victim of prejudice, brainwashing, ignorance and misconceptions about the school of the ahlulbayt.

@@mountainleopard5370 Allah has made this life in a way where we seek a means to attain our goals. For example going to the doctor before the specialist (which is called a metaphor/example in case your uneducated mind didn't understand). This is something very natural and accepted. Even those who believe in God seek help through others, it doesn’t mean that we don’t believe in God if we go to a doctor.
When we say Ya Ali or Ya Hussayn we are seeking help from the Ahlulbayt knowing and believing that whatever help they give us is through and by the permission of God.
There are several verses in the Quran which encourage people to seek a means to reach their goal or even get closer to God.
      Nisaa 64
This verse tells believers who are seeking repentance to repent through RasulAllah, basically encouraging people to call upon RasulAllah.

Encourages people to seek a means to reach God.
When we call upon the Ahlulbayt a.s. we are seeking a legitimate means that God has appointed for us.
Saying Ya Ali is not only halal, it is also encouraged because the Ahlulbayt are the means that God uses to connect with us, we use them to connect with God. Also Ya Mohammed s.a.w.s. is in your books but you've just never read them. Plus saying that these people are "dead" and cannot hear us is a pure contradiction with what the Quran says.
      Suratul Baqarah: Verses 153 − 157
O you who believe! seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient ones (153).
And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive (154).
And We will most certainly try you with somewhat of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give good news to the patient ones (155),
who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: “Surely we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return” (156).
Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those are the followers of the right course (157).

Nice video. Just a note. Shia believe in Imam Ali (A.S.) being the successor because of the event at Ghadeer Khumm where the Prophet (S.) said that "Whoever I am his master (Mawla) then Ali is his master (Mawla)" along with other events.
Also, Twelver Shias (the main group of Shias) still have a living Imam, Imam Mehdi (AJ.), who is in occultation and will return. This is similar to how Muslims believe Prophet Jesus (A.S.) will return.
This is just a general note and more details can be found at the appropriate sources.

I had this ultimate hate toward shia, was so ready to slap one on the face if I met any, up to the point where I couldn't stand it anymore and looked for any shia community. People kept telling me not to go alone, to bring any smarter guy along. When I finally found a shia community, nobody wanted to come along, so I went there by myself.
I sat down among shi'is that were listening to their ulama preaching. Somehow my fast-beating heart gradually settled down when I heard the guy preaching about the 2nd verse of surah al-Baqarah, the verse of the Holy Quran that I firmly believe. When it was about to end he mentioned Husayn ibn Ali, then I heard the guy next to me sobbing softly, also the one next to him, also the one in front of me, it was like almost everybody there was crying. Only by then I remembered that I was surrounded by shi'is. For almost an hour I completely forgot that I'd been listening to a shia preaching all along.
I was told that shia has a different Quran. No, they don't. I didn't join shia, I never will, as how I've never even also consider myself a sunni. I'm a muslim, that's it.
That power of hate was just unbelievable, I still can't believe that I could hate that much against something I never knew about. The more I think about any justified reason to hate, the more I felt like being ordered to hate. I'm pretty sure the only reason to bring someone along was to keep burning that hate, or at least to prevent one from joining instead.

Indeed there is no difference between Shia and Sunni. The division was created by the prophet's family. Ali took the side of those who later gave intellectual and scriptural leadership and was the vanguard to a scientific revolution, unknown at the time. The Umayyads of Damascus, for political reasons sowed the rift. Today Saudi Arabia pretends to be Umayyads while Iraq and Iran represents the Shia, who leads the Islamic attempt to unity and fight the common enemy. One day they will be united and the spark will rekindle. The Sunnis embarked on military domination while the Shia led the scientific revolution (Mutazila-question everything), it was the Sunni fundamentalism that did the most harm. I am a Sunni.

@@dr.farehasaleem5061 "SUSHI" is a light-hearted joke to resolve a serious problem. Since her mother is SUNNI and her father is SHIA, if you combine the first two letters of SUNNI and the first three letters of SHIA, you get SU-SHI, that is SUSHI. At 14:48 in video, the young child is a combination of her mother and father, hence SUSHI which is not an actual faction of Muslims. To make matters more hilarious (or serious, depending on how you look at it), sushi is a Japanese food based on raw fish.
On a more serious note, though, did you say that Muslim religion is based on blood grouping? And that A+ is more common among Muslims of the decedents of Hazrat Ali? @@gondala lol what? Only because it is that simple. Every Muslim has the basic faith that Muhammad is the last prophet of God and there is no god but *the* God. The majority of Muslims are sunni (this is why I assume and said "you're a sunni" ) and they probably wouldn't know or even call themselves sunnis if not for shia's distinct principles.
By all means I'm not against Shias existing nor am I saying that they aren't Muslims but the small theological differences unfortunately happened to be the most substantial in deciding how the religion works and progress. This is why I bring up about the Imams because they are the deal breaker.
According to Shias, the hadith of the Imams are *weighted almost the same as prophet Muhammad SAW himself* . This is a problem as being infallible/maksum is a quality that's usually reserved only for the great Prophets and especially problematic that in their belief it can be passed through bloodline inheritance.
I know what you're trying to say with the kumbaya stuff but we have to bridge the gap between sect through mutual understanding of each others differences and throwing your hands up then say "we're all muslims" is quite lazy, doesn't add anything to the conversation and in your own words "simple logic, black and white".
I'm sorry if I offend you, no intention to just needed to share. And let me rephrase my statement - If you're a Muslim who believe that the Imams are not maksum, then you're not a Shia, and *probably* a Sunni based on majority.
