Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the early history of Islam, as we discuss the events that led to the schism within the Muslim community, as Islam split into two branches - Sunni and Shia Islam. This happened in the latter stages of the Early Muslim Expansion, as the Rashidun caliphs - Umar, Uthman and Ali were assassinated, which led to the war of succession, killing of Ali's son Husayn in Karbala, and the creation of the Umayyad dynasty under Muawiyah I.

Not really. Sunnism is more of a moderate middle ground that sees all companions of the prophet, including Ali and the other 3 caliphs, as virtuous men. Mu'awiyah, despite his differences with Ali, held him in high regard and the masses refused to be whitewashed by Yazid's propaganda

    • @RexGalilae

You forget to mention what went on after Karbala. Karbala incident was not just massacre of Ali's family but it went on to Yazid imprisoning the females and children of Ali's family, Hussein's daughter died in the prison in Damascus. The wedge kept going on because Shia muslims stood behind rest of Ali's family including the eldest son of Hussein, Zain-ul-Abideen (the only male survivor after Karbala). This continued the Ahu-al-Bait (family of Prophet) who were supported by Shia and Caliphate that was supported by Sunni for later years.

Agreed on the final statement. Aside from superior intellect, and integrity, a leader must be well equipped to lead, as there is Heavy Responsibility that comes with it.
Going off the above, unity is also critical in a leadership role. The enemy is most likely to defeat a group/nation if the group/nation is partly or mostly Devided. We only need to look at the destruction of the Native nation in what was to become the United States of America. The various tribes did not join forces against the English and it cost them dearly.

If anyone's learning about Islam. You must know some basics.
Muslims follow Prophet Muhammad and his noble household called Ahlulbait. Which includes Prophet Muhammad's successor Ali , Prophet Mohammed Noble and Holy Daughter Fatima and the Grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad Hasan and Hussain. These Muslims are known as Shias.
While Deviants who claim to be Muslim but in reality are Non Muslims such as Sunnis they follow Abu Bakr , Umar ,Usman ,and Abu Bakr's daughter Ayesha ,Umar's son Ubaidullah and Usman's cousin Muawiya all of those who fought against Prophet Muhammad's Successor Hazrat Ali in Jang e Jamal ( Battle of Camel ) and Jang e Siffin ( Battle of Siffin ). Many of Supporters of Abu Bakr and Ayesha such as the cousins of Ayesha named Talha and Zubair and Umar's son Ubaidullah were killed in Jang E Jamal ( Battle of Camel ) and Jang e Siffin ( Battle of Siffin ). Muslims defeated all of them led By the Commander of Ali's Army Sahaba ( Companion of Prophet Muhammad ) Malik e Ashtar and Ammar bin Yasir ( Hazrat Ammar was killed and got Martyred by Usman's cousin Muawiya at Battle of Siffin ).
Most sunnis are Nasibis ( Supporters of people who fought against Ali and his son Hasan and Hussain ) and Sunnis hate Muslims and hate Shias and call them Rafedah for rejection of People who fought against Prophet Muhammad's successor Hazrat Ali and Ahlulbait such as Ayesha and her dad Abu Bakr and Ubaidullah and his Dad Umar and Muawiya and his Yazeed son and his uncle Usman..
The only people who follow the true teaching of Prophet Muhammad are Shias.
While Sunnis follow Abu Bakr al Baghdadi and Umar.
Sunnis the followers of Abu Bakr,Umar and Usman betrayed Prophet Muhammad and Supported Usman's cousin Muawiya against Hazrat Ali and supported Muawiya's son Yazeed and killed Prophet Muhammad's Grandson Imam Hussain in Karbala. But the Killers of Properts Family the followers of Abu Bakr,Umar and Usman and Abu Bakr's daughter Ayesha who fought against Prophet Muhammad' successor Hazrat Ali blame supporters of Hussain in Iraq for being weak and not strong enough against them while they were killing Imam Hussain in Karbala. After Sunnis killed Imam Hussain they threw all the blame on others claiming others didn't support Imam Hussain hence they had to kill Prophet Muhammad's Grandson as they had no choice.
Muslims the Followers of Prophet Muhammad ,Fatima and Ali and Hasan and Hussain have nothing to do with followers of Ayesha and Muawiya who fought against Ahululbait in Jang E Jamal ( Battle of Camel ) and Jang e Suffin ( Battle of Siffin ). Sunnis hate any respect given to Martyrs of Karbala and instead celebrate the death of Grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Muslim have nothing to do with Sunni Nasibi who supported killing of Prophet Muhammad's family and Grandson. Sunnis are supporters of Abu Bakr and his daughter Ayesha, Umar and his daughter Hafsa and Usman and his cousin Muawiya while Muslims are followers of Prophet Muhammad ,Fatima ,Ali and Hasan, Hussian.

But I do respect your opinion if you believe it went the other way and I ask you to imagine a person who didn't believe your version of events actually happened, do you think that person would be angry at ANYONE among the first converts to Islam? Such a big insult on Allah and Prophet knowledge that later on person like abu bakr and some companions thought about this.
THis is lie btw. According to Shia muslims, it was Imam Ali (AS) who was chosen as we see in Prophet's last sermon at Ghadeer and many other hadtih like Ali to Prophet is like harun to musa. No musa means Harun or Ali as leader.
Also how abu bakr stole fadak and lied about it *Sahih bukhari 4240* from daughter of Prophet Bibi Fatima like She is ordinary person, she is honoured by Allah to be leader of all women in paradise not just a women, clearly he is not saddiq and umer not farooq.

      Surrah Al Bayyinah v7,
The word(خَيْرُ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ), who are they?
      Ibn Abbas (ra) narrated:
When the verse,, Those who believe and do righteous deeds are the best of the creation (Qur’an 98:7)
was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (S) said to Ali: They are you and your Shi’a. He continued: O ‘Ali! (On the day of Judgment) you and your Shi’a will come toward Allah well-pleased and well-pleasing, and your enemies will come angry with their head forced up. Ali said: Who are my enemies? The Prophet (S) replied: He who disassociates himself from you and curses you. And glad tiding to those who reach first under the shadow of al-’Arsh on the day of resurrection. Ali asked: Who are they, O the Messenger of Allah?”He replied: Your Shi’a, O Ali, and those who love you.

Due to being stricken down by the poisoned blade, Ali was left dying for 3 days. The man who wanted to kill him was an orphan (ibn muljim) who was in fact raised by Ali himself and was (allegedly) seduced into betraying Ali by muawiya and one of his mistresses.
At his death bed, this was Ali's will to his son (hassan):
"be kind to your prisoner (Ali's murderer). Do not put fear into his heart. Feed him the same food that you consume. If I die, then you may strike him once (as ali himself was stricken once). But if I live, then it will be up to me to spare and forgive him.
My son, do not ask for life, even if life asks for you... "
Although you presented the situation in neutral manner and couldn't have possibly offended anyone, the virtues of Ali can never be overstated.
This is literally the most humble and humane representation of man that I have ever read about. His wisdom shines through his words and no sane human can deny his overwhelming dominance when compared to his peers, be it in duelling or providing knowledge.

you are 100% right ,, actually, 50% of the Umayyads themselves did revolt against the ruling system,, also in the time of the slaughter, the Omayyad king himself did get nerve damage when the news did arrive, that the HUSSIN got killed. the king never intended for the situation to end at this way. that massacre was a disaster and a dark point in Islamic history. to the record, in the time of [omar-bn abdelazzez] i think he was the 4th Umayyad king, the family of Hussain and Hassan were the most powerful family in his time.

Something you should keep in mind: the Quran explicitly commands against sectarianism. The Shias are a sect that chooses to create division and even though in my opinion they are correct in the fact that Ali should have been the next Caliph, it is not cause enough to oppose the literal command of God in the Quran.

Always look for pure monotheism if u r lost with propaganda every where, & look always for authentic evidences. When it comes to shia creed it's based on polytheism (invocations towards others than God + giving their imams attributes that only befit God & many other blasphemies) & on propaganda (they believe 9/10 of the religion is taqiyah so they r always lying & even accept hadiths of well known liars). I don't advice u to rely on non muslim non scholar documentaries you have to read the Qur'an & study properly from reliable scholars but not blindly always examine the evidences. This specific matter you want to find out about, you won't find in the Quran. Hadith literature deals with this matter, but Hadith literature can be a little tricky to deal with since it is more along the lines of a primary source. Primary sources usually require expert treatment, so you would be better off talking to an expert such as a mufti (Islamic jurist). But what sort of mufti you might ask? You have seen that sectarianism exists in Islam as well. So who to trust you might rightly ask?
The key obstacle for anyone unfamiliar will be knowing which group is the correct one or who is a reliable source. But it's not impossible to know who is correct. With a little reasoning you can figure out who the original group of Muslims are and thus who is trustworthy. Religion comes to us via a historical process, so you simply find out whose methodology for preserving the sources of Islam is sound and whose arguments are consistent.
To save you a little time and give you some direction, I can tell you now that the Sunni group is the original group that is upon correct guidance. A sunni follows one of 4 schools of law - Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi and Hanbali. The original shia group known as the Jafari are also considered to be more or less upon correct guidance, except that they are mistaken in their belief concerning the 3 caliphs before Ali. Other shia groups are seriously misguided needless to say.
The justification I can provide for you is that the Sunni group was and still is the majority group. Since we are dealing with a historical matter, corroboration is important. The shia constituted a minority. We don't take the view of the minority over the majority.
In the video you saw mention was made of the incident of Gadir Kum 4:00. The word 'mawla' can mean a couple things as shown. Context provides the key. Ali had returned from distributing some war booty in Yemen if i recall correctly, and the people there were discontent. Word of this spread. So to prevent any false allegations from being believed as being true, Muhammad proclaimed Ali in the manner he did to dispel these allegations. The sunni have justification. The shia usually only have accusations. But you will see this for yourself in your research.
There are other groups too who broke away from the main body of Sunnis in the early part of Islam such as the Ibadis. So look at the reason why these groups formed. Always beware of splinter factions who believe that they are upon the truth. When it comes to historical corroboration the main body of Muslims will always have the strongest corroboration.

    • @kirkp-ko8hk
      @kirkp-ko8hk Před 3 lety +6

Also beware of the Wahabi sect and Salafi sect. They believe themselves to be true Sunnis, but are far down the historical timeline. Logic will compel one to ask what could they possibly know of the religion that the older groups (i.e. Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi, Hanbali) do not know?

You have to understand that what you mentioned is what our Shia brothers believe... that he raised his hand 🤚 to appoint him as a successor.... but that’s not what the 120,000 companions attending understood cause if the prophet had really intended by raising Ali’s hand to appoint him as a successor the companions would’ve understood that and knew it just like the prophet taught them and clarified many things to them before.

      1. There were no 120,000 companions on the day of Ghaddir e khum.
      2. Event of Ghaddir e khum occurred after the pilgrimage days.
      3. If our prophet wanted to name Ali (asws) as his successor, he would have declared him as his successor on pilgrimage days in mecca or madinah after returning there, when there were a lot of muslims, not in a small place called "khum" where there were only some Syrians and people of Madinah who were returning to their homes from pilgrimage.
      4. On that day of Ghaddir e Khum, Mohammad (saww) said, "Whoever considers me his Moula, should consider Ali as his Moula" and held the hand of Ali (asws) and raised his hand so that everyone who was present there could see it clearly. This was not an act of prophet declaring Ali (asws) as his successor because he was a prophet not a worldy king, but this was a warning to Syrians and people of Madinah because he knew what will happen to Ali (asws) in future. When the time came, people of Madinah stayed loyal to Ali and his family, while people of Syria rebelled against him and eventually killed his family in Karbala.
      5. If you really want to educate yourself on this topic, go read a book of hadith or ask a question about this to any good moderate scholar who actually knows history, not CZcams peeps, and Allahh knows best 🤝🏻💚

One thing to add is that the envoy to Husayn in question was al-Hurr. Despite being a soldier in Yazid's army, Hurr was still an honorable man. After 9 days of going back and forth, on the night before the battle, al-Hurr was out walking around the Umayyad camp reflecting on the coming battle. And after looking at the camp of Husayn and his own camp, and understanding the horrible events he had helped set in motion, al-Hurr resolved to abandon the Umayyads and rode along with a handful of his loyal men to join Husayn, knowing full well what that meant. It is said that upon reaching Husayn, he began sobbing at Husayn's feet and begged forgiveness. Promising to fight and die for the Imam's cause.
The next day, when the battle began, Hurr was the first man to ride out to meet the Umayyads. First pleading with his comrades to spare Husayn, and after his pleas fell on deaf ears, chastising and berating them for their duplicity in inviting Husayn to Kufa, only to kill him. In the end, Hurr fought and died valiantly as the first casualty of Husayn's camp.
For me personally, Hurr's story remains one of the most powerful to come out of the events of Karbala. Where every other companion of the Imam had grown up with him and his father and even the Prophet. Where they had grown up learning right from wrong, learning the value of honor and integrity, Hurr was an outsider. He was a soldier who was in the employ of Yazid and had become wealthy and powerful for it. He had no reason to switch sides. Staying with Yazid guaranteed a life of comfort and ease, but joining Husayn meant certain death. But in the end, he knew that no pleasures in the world were worth a guilty conscience. He knew that hiding behind orders was not enough, that much as he tried to pretend otherwise, he DID have a choice. It was not a choice between life and death, but a choice between salvation and damnation. And in the end, he chose salvation. It is one of the most powerful tales of redemption in Shi'a theology. And I know for myself and so many other Shi'a, it is a moral standard. To strive for what is right, even if it costs you everything.

Sunnis are supporters of Abu Bakr and his daughter Ayesha, Umar and his daughter Hafsa and Usman and his cousin Muawiya while Muslims are followers of Holy Messengers of God and his Prophets such as Prophet Solomon, Prophet Isaac , Prophet Jonah ( Sunni ISIS destroyed his Grave ),Prophet Jacob , Prophet Joseph, Prophet Samuel, Prophet David ( Dawood ), Prophet Elijah ( Ilyas ) ,Prophet Noah and Prophet Abraham ( Ibrahim ) and Prophet Moses and his Successor Aaron ( Hazrat Harun ) and Prophet Jesus ( Isaah ) his Successor John the Baptist ( Hazrat Yahya ) and God's Last Messenger Prophet Muhammad and his Successor Hazrat Ali and his Holy and Noble daughter Fatima and the grandchildren of Prophet Muhammed Hassan and Hussain.
