- BASIC SET-UP: LAPAROSCOPIC GASTRIC SLEEVE
Hey guys! Let's do a breakdown of this case shall we.
So I've only done a couple sleeves and it's been awhile so all the knowledge I have comes from reading the preference cards and knowing a little bit of anatomy. I also asked a scrub to help me out so here's a few things that I learned about doing this case:
1. They called it the Pretzel Retractor lol, no idea what that was and it turns out it's the liver retractor. They call things all kinds of names. As soon as I saw it, I knew What it was used for.
2. The stapler had a malfunction. I wasn't gonna be the dumb one so I told the doc and PA if they can put the reload. Sure did, the reload and the stapler were defective. Lol I definitely was not gonna take that fall. Haha.
3. The tray had missing items but he made due on what whats in there. He's really nice and he's really fast. We like a balance :)
4. The doctor showed me the best way to install a suture on a Kelly week. You probably have no idea what I'm talking about but it's used to suture the peritoneum faster and it's a nice device.
5. The scope is 3D but I didn't use 3D glasses cause I have vertigo lol. Nothing exciting really.
6. His preference card is long and 60% of it wasn't applied. So be mindful. Make sure you ask.

Thanks for your informative videos, with the info and tips from your content, I've recently just got promoted to a lead tech role. Awesome work and thanks.
Oh that's awesome!!! 💯
You have this no problem! Even though I am not a surgical technician. My dream though. I so enjoy your videos your attitude! I would be so interested in actually seeing these instruments being used. It would help to better understand the use of each instrument and time of use according to different surgical procedures.
God bless all surgical technicians!
Hey while u have a great idea, I can't really show you how the instruments work cause it would have to involve a patient so I can't do that. My videos are mostly for students who should or will know how they're used once they get into clinicals.
2:25 for the liver
Yes but I've always known it to be a lover retractor but they called it Pretzel 🤷 lol
Thanks for the sharing, its very helpful. Can you also include the anesthesia and the surgical suture set up? I work in pharmacy hospital and I would love to learn the basic set up of the anesthesia/medication during the surgery and also the surgical suture that being used in each type of surgery. Thank you 🙌
If don't mind asking how much do you get paid as a surgical tech? I have 2 semester left until I start the program
