In 1930, after being strong-armed into helping two members of the Salieri family - Paulie and Sam - escape an ambush by the rival Morello family, impoverished taxi driver Thomas "Tommy" Angelo is assaulted by members of the Morello family in an act of revenge. While he is rescued by the Salieri family upon calling in a favor promised by Don Ennio Salieri, Tommy loses his job after his employers learn about his involvement with the Mafia. With a lack of job opportunities due to the ongoing Great Depression, Tommy is forced to accept Salieri's offer to join his organization, and soon befriends Paulie and Sam as they complete various jobs together. Tommy's work for the family earns him Salieri's respect, and he quickly rises through their ranks, eventually becoming a caporegime.
Over the following years, the Salieri and Morello families engage in an all-out war for control of Lost Heaven's criminal underworld, while Tommy starts a family and becomes disillusioned by the violent and decadent lifestyle he is now living. He begins going behind Salieri's back and directly opposing his orders, until Salieri eventually learns about this and puts a hit on him. With his former allies now against him, Tommy fears for his family's safety, and arranges for witness protection with Detective Norman in exchange for giving Norman the evidence and testimony needed to build a case against Salieri. The entire game is told as a flashback, as Tommy explains to Norman his rise to prominence and eventual fall within Salieri's organization.

You can see at 49:40 that once sam mentioned paulie, sam's best friend and tommy's best friend he immediately had no problem shooting him after he remembered what he did to paulie. Almost like a "you don't get to reminisce about old times after what you did". Really gave meaning to the scene rather than just a death.
Yeah exactly. It almost seems like Sam wanted Tom to shoot at that point. I mean Sam isn't dumb, he should know mentioning Paulie's name like that would make him shoot. He either wanted Salieri to hunt Tommy down or he accepted that he deserved to die (or both)

In the first mafia , you can drive an invisible car , she's hidden somewhere in the map look normal but become invisible when you start to drive her.

@@aurora-ksiezniczkadobra I know...but I cannot explain it. He was just this clumsy and nice criminal, and we loved him just for that. Maybe it was the fact that Arthur at the start was really cruel and despicable, while Paulie was nice with us from the right moment we met him.

If you really think about, the perspective of both sides is kinda interesting. In Tommy’s case, he figures Salieri finally found him and sent some guys from the family to finish the job 13 years later when in reality, Vito & Joe were in a really fucked up situation due to all that mess Henry & the Tongs put them in. They didn’t know Tommy nor the Salieri Family, all they needed was the money to pay back Bruno and not get whacked.

I liked original ending more
Tommy was my iconic character in this mafia trilogy although he narrates how it began and how everything ended but it all ended in a bad but was the best way for him to let go and accept fate.
That final scene was the best scene in the entire Mafia 1 game imo. I was saddened at first but when I realised how great Mafia 2 was I am now glad this happened to Tommy. Fall of Tommy and rise of Vito. 🔥

WHAT DID THEY DO!?!?? there are graphical glitches in the remaster that where not present in the original cars falling through the streets textures not loading properly dialog repeating itself after a save point, dialog at the end with joe when he gets beat up and you rescue him from the construction site its vito and joe repeating lines all over the whole time. The high res textures dont even make sense, and instead of fleshing out the characters it feels washed up dont get me wrong they look pretty sometimes but for a remaster i expected more otherwise i would have purchased the original version again at a discounted price on xbox 360

Tommy's death hits different when you know it's coming, seeing that car pull up in the background while he's on the front lawn just feels so ominous, it's like watching the grim reaper coming to take you away.

It just occured to me and I could be wrong but Tommy's face looks a lot like it's modeled after Robert De Niro back in The Godfather Part 2. Pretty awesome if so
The moment I heard Vito's voice so I started having flashbacks, I only played Mafia 1 once it was Mafia 2 that I finally realize who they killed and I felt so bad

I really hope that, Hangar 13 / 2K releases a DLC pack for Mafia DE. Just like Joe's Adventures from Mafia 2 - Mafia DE : Paulie's Adventures. It tells the story from another time of the game. We play as Paulie Lombardo and see how he joined to Salieri Crime Family, how he met with Sam.

I’ve not played the remastered game fully but this is my opinion from what I’ve seen so far, and watched quite a few scenes including this video. I’m someone that’s both played the first mafia and played mafia 2 all both amazing games. I can see they may have retconned some bits of the story and changed some small details a little but I think the game effects and the graphics is aesthetically beautiful and pleasing. I think the voice acting of Salieri and Tommy grew on me over time and I think they done the storytelling right and I love how they have added extra scenes in to give more depth to the story compared to the original as only certain details was mentioned in the original and left to the imagination, but I like they added more of these scenes though to make it more layered and deeper. I can understand what they were trying to do with Frank’s voice, by making it more authentic with him having that accent. I like they’ve done different takes on the old missions that were in the original game, but I know this is something that people may not agree with me on and that’s fair enough and I only enter this part of my opinion as just healthy debate and contribute to discussion. However I feel with comparison with the classic Paulie and the revamped Paulie I feel they really let his character down and in this version the voice acting for me really didn’t sell it for me and I didn’t think that he was that good and the character looked nothing similar to the classical Paulie we saw in the original, and I think the classical Paulie was much better and the voice actor for this version of Paulie was just irritating and he didn’t sound serious or wasn’t that type of authoritarian type voice by being one of the experienced hands of Don.Salieri, and being like a leader and effective for what Paulie’s character deserved. Tom’s voice actor did well and it grew on you and I know they did the voicing style more differently but that’s where they got it right as an example. If I was playing the game I couldn’t get attached to this version of Paulie’s character and I think the voice acting and the character design, could be chosen a lot better in my opinion.

@@Stealthcola I won’t disagree the original will always be the best I think and wished they mostly stuck to it instead of recasting everyone. But anyway I think the worst thing about the remastered version is how they wrote Paulie they really got the worst voice actor there for him,the original paulie was much better
I would say that Paulie was the one character at the start who really jarred me to hear for the first time, and it really never got comfortable throughout the entire film, but I think it serves his character well in some ways. Y'know I think from the start he was always meant to be the goofball/loose canon type of character and I don't think that his voice really compromises some of his deeper character elements that stray from the archetype. But it is interesting to see how they changed the inspiration for the characters. Salieri looks a lot more like Paulie from Goodfellas than he was (I guess) supposed to in the original. I think it's safe to say that they completely strayed from Paulie's inspiration of Joe Pesci which I think serves to at least keep him an original character, although again I think that his core elements of being a goofball and idiot while also being sporatically violent and surprisingly cunning are still maintained. I just think that way too many of Paulie's intricacies are looked past because of the voice.

I discovered the mafia's games today (i watched 2 let's play on mafia 1 (remake) and mafia 2), and honestly mafia remake was soooooooooooo good i loved the story and the characters i was feeling like i was part of the family. I was so sad of tommy's death at the end cause i loved this character so much. Sam was also my favourite but i was so sad that at the end he was the "mean" character :((( Imo mafia 1 is the best of the mafia's. I still need to see mafia 3 but apparently its not as good as the 2 previous game. For mafia 2 i didn't like that much the story tbh, i mostly watched a let's play on it cause i learnt that vito and joey the ones killing tommy in the 1st game were the main character of the 2nd game. So i wanted to see the killing scene in the 2nd game lol.
