- In this video I talk about the best way to create baseboard, crown molding, and wall tile in Archicad. It's all super easy to do and helps make models look more real. I glossed over some things (like making a Complex Profile), so if you have any questions please ask them below.
A few additional items not mentioned in the video:
- Baseboard should always be placed from the bottom, inside corner. That way the base can grow up and out if you change the Complex Profile.
- Crown Moldings and coves should always be placed from the top, inside corner. Same reasons.
- Even for simple baseboards and moldings, I recommend you use a Complex Profile. That way if you decide to get more fancy, you just have to update the Complex Profile to automatically turn all your dull 5/4 x 4 baseboards into super ornate trim with tons of ogee curves.

The model in this video was created using the Shoegnome Open Template and the Shoegnome Work Environment for Archicad 25. Links below:

As always the template and work environment are free; a good Archicad template (and work environment) is too important to horde. If you want to click the PayPal button on the template or work environment pages to support my endeavors and encourage future development, that's wonderful. Whenever people do that, it makes my day.

Thanks shoegnome, been using arxhicad for around 10 years now and still have so many questions.
If you've got anything you'd like to see a video on, let me know.
Your work is absolutely beautiful. It could be a seemingly small-scale project, but it is packed with so much detail. In the kitchen, for example, you have a pot-filler! Just ridiculous. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks. That pot filler is an object I scripted. It's in my template if you want it!
@@Shoegnome is your template somewhere to be downloaded?
Absolutely: www.shoegnome.com/template/
I find that when I use a thin wall for linings it often wants to interact strangely with the main walls. Using a separate layer and changing the intersection number works.
Yes. If you do layered walls like this you always need to use separate layers with different intersection group numbers. Otherwise it'll be a mess.
Thanks!
🙂
Thank you again Gerald. Just saw the super thanks! This is the first one I've ever received. Made my day!!
🍷🥇 🙏
This is definitely better way for tiles using a wall than using a slab.
Absolutely! And if you need a coved base or top or a special course of tile, a complex profile makes it even more powerful for wall tile.
👍🏻👍🏻
👍👍👍
Are the light switches a default object in Archicad or is it a custom object?
Those are the default out of the box light switches. They're quite good.
@@Shoegnome I think it's only for the US. Can't seem to find them in the INT version. Just 2D symbols with no 3D model.
That's annoying! If you got to my template FAQ, you can download the USA Library and copy out those light switches. Definitely worth it: www.shoegnome.com/template/shoegnome-open-template-faq/
hello, hope you're doing well,
please can I have your template ?
Of course. Here's a link to the template: www.shoegnome.com/template/
