Dip Net Fishing Alaska's Copper River | Smoking & Canning Sockeye Salmon
Vložit
- čas přidán 4. 07. 2021
- Perseverance pays off on our annual dip netting trip to the quaint town of Chitina and the wild Copper River. These Sockeye salmon are well worth the effort loaded with extra fat for their long journey and the turbid waters they traverse. We take our catch and fire up the pallet smoker back at the cabin to preserve these prized Alaskan fish.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

If you keep posting these longer videos I'm cancelling Netflix. I'd rather watch this!
I agree 100%. This is great information and entertainment. What more could you ask for? Loved the long video.❤
I agree!
Oh absolutely!
LOL It's fun to be with them.
Who needs Netflix...... these two are gold!
I LOVE that there is no music, no captions, no mention of Instagram, no ask for “like and subscribe.” Just pure Alaskan living. Thank you and don’t change a thing.
bing-gooo-ooooohhhh
I really like watching your videos.Showing how you preserved your food and over coming the up and downs of living there.Good luck you two and keep making these !!
Why does everyone hate on captions, though?
@@madeleinec147 Well, it takes away from the flow of the video if your channel is about day-to-day life or telling a story. If you're trying to tell a story, let it just happen. Also, it's redundant as the youtuber has likely already said what name/place/dish it is that they're about to show so what's the point of also adding in a caption. I think captions are only necessary if it's a non-speaking type of a channel.
And no waste of time intro - I hate intros...
“The most beautiful thing, apart from Ariel, that I’ve ever seen” awwww Eric what a lovely compliment to your wife.
I cannot express to you how much my husband and I enjoy your stories. I love your appreciation for gorgeous Alaska; your respect for everything around you; animals, fish, edible plants,. Your respect for one another is beautiful. ( I love seeing your wedding rings!) The care that you give to your dogs, cat, chickens, gardens is lovely to see. I cannot tell you how much I've learned about preserving food and seeing you prepare your delicious meals. I could take baking lessons from Ariel. Thank you ever so much for your hard work in bringing us the true Alaska!
My husband and I agree with everything in your comment we love them too and appreciate watching them every evening you're doing a great job
Guys, thanks for being _REAL._
I'm so tired of 'clickbait' channels, "acting" out a "clickbait" life for _views._
You are REAL and REFRESHING. Thank you!
It’s the best part about this channel.
I agree! As a lifelong Alaskan, they do an excellent job of capturing the real Alaska! Glad you are enjoying it! 🌺 Jen
Yay!! Kudos too my fellow Alaskans 💙😂🤘🏽✌🏽
I kno who you are talking about!👍 Yup these guys are the REAL DEAL.
Also no butt shots in tide leggings from the female part of the couple. So glad to see this couple acting real and "normal". Arial is great and super funny and real. Much more of a real out doors woman then many, many of these youtube off the grid legging girls.
As an elderly woman who has lived and worked my entire life in a major metropolitan city, it has been wonderful watching you both live a different kind of life. It’s a really magical partnership that you have. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Hi
I agree
Yes, PLEASE post longer videos! Even if it's the same type of content every season, you don't follow a routine, you do it different all the time and learning new ways is always fun!
Wow. Your teamwork is really very impressive! As is your love and appreciation for food. It is a pleasure to watch and listen to you.
“Bo, Bandit! Please don’t cross the road by yourself!” Lol did they listen ?
I loved when she said that ... makes me happy to know I'm not alone when I talk to my dogs like that lol.. As if they understand or ever listen to my advice 😆
@@terrig5492 you would be surprised what dogs do understand.
Oh, the most beautiful thing besides Ariel. He's a keeper.
I said the same thing!! Men like him are very hard to find. ❤️
I melted too!
In my next lifetime I'm coming back as Eric.
(The 3 of you will have to share me) 😁 😁 😁 {*😘*}
man gota give you guys so much respect and admiration, you guys have fullly adapted to alaska living and being so efficient with everything you guys have learned. from moving from big city living in cali to oregon now to alaska..well done guys and thanks for taking us along with y’all
I know I have said this before but you guys make such a great team! I love to watch y'all work together! Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Eric: “pretty sure that is the most beautiful thing, besides Ariel, that I have ever seen”
Me: ❤️💜 falls even more in love with channel than I already am.
…. Yeah I know, all that beautiful scenery and gorgeous fish, and all I can focus on is unintentional mushy romantic stuff.. I’m a hopeless romantic give me a break 😂🤷🏻♀️
I laughed at that too 🤣
@@emmacurwen8416 The sweetest
My favorite channel. Feels like I go on vacation every time I watch these two. Love them!❤
I do too!
Me too. I never want the video to end. >*)(((>
They deserve an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, and every other film award out there for the best scenery, best storyline, raw and real footage, for the strength of their relationship (with each other, the land, their animals), and overall best quality CZcams content. Absolutely amazing adventure!
@@brendag2891
Absolutely the very best of all you said!!! 🙏♥️🙏👵
@@brendag2891 I especially love when they cook in their kitchen, everything’s from scratch and looks so yummy. If they had a cookbook, I would definitely buy it.
Kia Ora from New Zealand, your love and respect for the land, sustainability, and utilizing every bit of what you catch makes me realize how much I waste every day and take life for granted, so much respect and Aroha to you guys
Your channel alone has been my primary motivation for learning how to do more for myself from foraging, to gardening, canning and so on. Not hunting or fishing YET! I'm waiting for your gardening/cooking/preserving book soon.
I can’t believe I get to watch this stuff for free. Y’all are out here putting together HOUR LONG VIDEOS. I feel so spoiled 😂 another great trip for the books! Thanks letting us tag along :)
such a candid comment and thoughtful from all of us to A and E
Agree! Theres a homesteader whos a bore, clickbait titles, creates drama for content, uses his kids like set props. since the Virus, hes up to 850,000 subs and now is charging to watch! He turned off all comments too. his tiers are $6mo, $15mo & for $30mo he will text reply w/i 24 hrs! The guy hires people to do everything for him on his homestead, so u kno it wont be him texting.
Some of that scenery looked like it would fit in a Bob Ross painting. I think he was based in Alaska when he was serving in the military. Thanks as usual for sharing.
He was in Alaska, the Fairbanks area I believe
This is what living life in Alaska is all about. Harvesting and preparing food for winter and to sustain life! Awesome job you two! That was a lot of work!!!
I just live the way you guys are open when things don't work out the way you planned. Loved they way you guys revamped and killed it out there. Oh man, this was a lengthy video and I enjoyed every minute of it even rewinding at times. You guys are amazing.
No wonder the salmon seemed heavier than the actual... you worked so hard with the whole process...its a wonder you guys could stand up! Y'all are a great team, I'll tell you the truth! Nice job guys! Really!:-)
This is where you take pictures for your next calendar. : )
I would buy one if they did one! As long as they ship to the UK 🇬🇧❤
I agree with Jane H; Thank you for sharing your life experiences with us. I tuned in for the gardening and got hooked! You both do have a wonderful bond, and love for the outdoors, watching you both, make it magical for me! So please keep them coming! Your fan, Caroline
What you need is some sort tear drop trailer to pull along on your travels to sleep in.
Scraping remaining salmon meat, faith in humanity restored
You guys are the real deal. Absolutely genuine and down to earth, and that is why we all love you( gauging from the comments). You use every part of the fish or meat you hunt, that is showing so much respect to the living. No wastage! I don't think I can say enough for you guys. God bless you guys. May you find happiness and the adventures you seek where ever you go.
Incredible! The fish looked gorgeous, smoked fillet looked inviting! The natural beauty of copper river and surrounding area, the drive was so nice, I wished I was there. Thanks for this and all of your videos.
I've enjoyed every episode I've watched. For two people who eat a lot of salmon, to hear your comments about how rich and delicious the Copper River salmon is says so much. I'm surprised that you were able to taste such a distinct difference. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
The look on Ariel's face when she took that first bite of the salmon! It looked like she fell in love with Eric all over again!
EVERY single video I think about how completely perfect you two are for each other.
I have never seen Eric look quite so tired!
Maybe build a rolling cart for gear and harvests, with something like jogging stroller or small bike wheels. Use a bike lock to tie it to the tree at the top of the cliff, haul stuff in and out. Save your backs.
What a great intro. The scenery you capture is stunning. BTW I have a few favorite parts in this . Of coarse the scenery. Another, It took me a while to stop chuckling when Arielle was climbing up the path with 40 lbs of fish in a back pack . I like that Eric was making available and using a form of fall protection, and the wear life vest. Cutting and cleaning the fish was also a favorite too. It was very considerate of you all for showing this video with fishing. I know you have a lot of work to do with winter season on your mind. Thank you.
That scenery is beautiful! That slope with the yellow flowers was just amazing. I really want to visit Alaska now.
One whole hour!! Can’t wait to watch tonight. Having major Alaska withdrawals currently!!
Yes them and an Alaskan homestead are in my top CZcams Chanel’s where I always watch
Michael you will really enjoy this video when you get home tonight. It was exceptional to say the very least. I am in awe of these two young people and have been subscribed since the beginning. Love them both. Michelle
Same missing Alaska too first year for me living outside in years
Arielle, your smile and enthusiasm are a joy to watch plus you carry your own weight, Eric is one blessed fella. Bob J. in Nevada
Dude she mans the camera and dogs she even said Eric has a lot of work to do and that he dip netted them all. It’s okay to give appreciation but don’t over due it for a pretty smile.
@@nw_blessed1404 Interesting viewpoint. Mine is not from one post but from almost all if not all of them. Arielle shoots the moose, cuts it up, carries the parts around and then cans/freezes. She lifts the logs, totes the loads as best she can at the new lake cabin. She gets up with hub, seems to be pretty busy with the day to day stuff, drives her own sled, and though not a perfect shovel user, never lets up. Watch her move gravel, compost, manure and the like. In all of this, she is generally enthusiastic, excited about life, hopeful about outcomes, is gentle with her words, kind to her pets, and by my book, I think she is a fine lass but I can find all the pretty faces I want here in Las Vegas that cannot shoot or run a snow blower. She is Eric's wife, I do my best not to covet anyone's stuff, most especially their wives. Not flaming on you, we try to keep it civil and nice on all forums where good folks hang out. Hope you stay around to get a year or more of this couples life in your memory bank. Have a great day. Bob J. in Nevada
I love to see husband and wife working together and so friendly
That was awesome! That salmon looks delicious! I like how you showed processing the fish from start to finish product. I know you have some happy dogs getting to eat homemade dog food from all that left over salmon. Thank you for taking us along with you on your fishing experience.
Wow! I read just yesterday that Copper River sockeye filets are $30/lb up there. Red gold!
Big grocery haul
@Gillie Monger In a gift shop they stopped at, in one of their other videos, I think the canned salmon was $15 a jar? Was that when they went to the hot springs in the winter? 35 jars at $15 each is, like, a million bucks ❤️ 💰 🐟 OMG I just googled it, and one jar on Amazon is $121 www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjD87SJnc3xAhVUyrMKHZAdAqEYABAGGgJxbg&ae=2&sig=AOD64_2V6X5uVb-xPHuQqCp0C3NcLY2Wyw&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwiBk6eJnc3xAhUcGVkFHTMZCygQwg96BAgBECY&dct=1&adurl=
At Pikes Place fish market in Seattle, copper river kings were going for $100 a pound. Crazyyyy
Crazy yes! Right now my grandson is on a Bristol Bay boat catching (bled) Sockeye for $1.28/lb.
The prices are ridiculous! My hubby fishes to fill out deep freezer for the year. Saves us so much money! 🌺 Jen
After watching all the driving, hiking, climbing, and fishing, I had to take a nap. That was before all the processing! You two are an amazing team.
WOW how awesome to have all that fish on hand for yourselves and the animals. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous!
Very nice to see couples doing this. 👏 👌 Once again thanks for doing this shows. May great God keep blessing 🙌 you all including the beautiful Family dogs too 🐕
“The most beautiful thing, besides Ariel…” I love your videos and your lovely relationship. Thanks for taking us along.
That yummy beautiful salmon and I’m here eating a gross hot dog.
I like hot dogs.
Love that you feed yourself and the dogs and chickens nothing was wasted ❤
Their teamwork and love is amazing. As a divorced and now single man I am sooooo jealous.
Dear Lord if my car ever breaks down, let me break down in front of their house. I'm purty sure I can get there from NC lol. Great job guys.
Yes! When I flew into Anchorage and we drove to Soldotna, it was the most BEAUTIFUL drive! We stopped every few miles to admire the view, the entire way home😆😆
Wow! Thanks for taking us along! Y’all are so adventurous & brave! I love watching y’all eat & describe the food flavors! It’s really awesome seeing you grow, raise, harvest & catch your own foods! God bless!🙏🏼🕊💙
What a great person to give you a ride, i’m an ultra marathoner and trail runner I could never move 200 pounds of salmon 4 miles through rough trail. Absolutely amazing!
How amazingly exciting!! My wife and I literally started cheering out loud as we saw Eric pull that first fish out of the water. Then when we saw the other we cheered aloud again!!
@@bjhunt4ever thx
That is awesome!
Spoon scraping a fish yields a ridiculous amount of fish. So much extra is gained! Love doing it.
Started doing this with pretty much all red fleshed fish I take. Friggin love some “fish sausage”
Your guys' life is a constant vacation living in Alaska, truly blessed.
That sock eye salmon is making me hungry you guys are doing such an amazing job living your best life in the last frontier ALASKA love the simplicity
Awesome again!
Glad to see you are a fan..

Hey youngin's Rev Paul Eustis, Florida. You guy's are on my old stomping grounds, when you leave Chitna 1 1/2 miles past the School on the Chitna Rd. on the right is where I lived and worked on a farm.... So good to see this place again, I know it's changed in the 45 yrs since I was there, but thanks for the memories tho. When dipping a back eddie and swift water dip close to the bank first then work to deeper water that really works too.thanks again youngin's Reverend Paul M Vining Sr Eustis, Fl.
What a great haul! My daughter had a good haul dipnetting this year. She ended up with 47+ lbs after processing. So proud of her. It’ll last her the year.
When you dip the net does it have to reach the bottom in order for the fish to go inside it?
Hi guys, you have shown me some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. I enjoy your videos
I wish I could smell the scenery. How pretty the nature is.
"That was an exaggeration"😆😆😆
This was an awesome video. I feel like I'm actually there hanging out with you. Thank you for the window into your life and the beautiful scenery. I learn so much from your channel.
Wow, that’s an incredible amount of work! And your jars of salmon look amazing. Thank you for giving us a peek inside your Alaskan lives!
I love that nothing is wasted on these fish. Made me hungry.
So nice to see how appreciative you both are of each other and the fruits of the land! And not wasting any part of the fish! That salmon looks so amazing!
Also, it's extremely awesome how you both get along and do everything together. Keep posting 👍
This is by far my best new Sub. Amazing footage, and epic dip netting. I totally got into the finishing and processing. 1 % wasted if that. Nice haul, great scenery.. Thanks for taking us along,
The two of you have been my saving grace through a very difficult time in my life. This channel is therapy for me. I hope you both know you have a far reaching impact on so many. Your videos are more than just informational. They bring joy in an otherwise struggling world. THANK YOU!!

So beautiful scenery and mouth watering salmon, wild salmons look great, and great to see great knowledge in processing it
I’ve lived on the Kenai peninsula my whole life. You guys are more Alaskan than a lot of Alaskans I know. Well done my family and I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
In a world where most videos start with screamed titles, studied to attract people, you are two beautiful souls showing their simple humanity in all simplicity. And it's beautiful for me, for all of us I think, to follow your days. I really liked Ariel's exclamation on this video: Thank Godness! It's nice to see this gratitude.

"It's a pretty warm day, it's about 64 degrees...." ummm... it's July 5th! Tell Alaska it's summertime already lol 🤣
(But that is a really pretty glacier)
I need to move somewhere that 64° is considered a warm day. I hate warm weather.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 As opposed to South Florida, where this time of year when we get a storm we rejoice when it cools down to 80.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 dont ever live in az its super warm all year we only get snow like every 3 years. and most of the time its gone the next day.
We (happily for me) had a high of 57 degrees here in Maine on the 4th. Overnight it went into the 40's and on the morning of the 5th, I had to put the heat on just for a little while. Even in my long pants and fleece layers I was cold. I won't complain though. I'll take that anytime over the 80+ degrees we're supposed to have tomorrow. :-/
