Glad to see you get into the hooligan. When they are running in the Kenai River, they look like a long continuous giant pencil lead right next tothe shore. One scoop will literally fill the net to the brim and it's almost impossible to lift it up it's so heavy. You could fill your cooler in 10 full scoops. Glad you found them closer to home. There are spots in the valley rivers way upstream where they can be so thick, you'll run them thru the jet unit of a boat.

Many years ago when my work took me to Africa, we saw a mother elephant and 3 younger ones crossing the Zambezi River to get to a small island in the middle. They go under the water while breathing through their trunk then go under with their trunk, come up, and go down again. I was stunned how far they swam. A local had told us that the river was full of huge crocodiles who can attack and eat almost every animal who dares to enter the water, except elephants.

A marvelous outdoor adventure video! Just like being there in person. Reminds me of net fishing for fish called "smelt" in Nova Scotia as a teen with my Dad . The run was once a year with used potato bags as containers and no limit on the number caught. Similar to hooligans but maybe a bit smaller. Great treat fried crispy in butter ! Your video adventures are all so real life and very enjoyable. 👍👍👍.

I'm unsure if they're the same fish but I live in the Vancouver area of British Columbia and we have smelts...which look exactly the same (to my eye). I think these are one of the most delicious fish out there. We simply roll them in salt and pepper seasoned flour and fry them to golden brown and squeeze a little fresh lemon juice on them. We pull the spines and heads and fins are optional. Wonderful video. I'm happy to see y'all load up! ❤🙏👍

They look somewhat like the smelt we have in the great lakes. We live by lake Erie and have caught them on hook and line, but they run up the rivers. We eat them at Christmas time, especially Christmas Eve with other seafood. Lightly floured and fried without the heads. Yum
