All of the members contribute to the writing and producing of songs to some extent. Suga, RM and J-hope usually write all of their own rap verses. RM also contributes heavily to the lyrics on all songs. Suga produces a lot of their songs. That is one of the appeals of BTS. Big Hit gives them the latitude to be their own artists. Many of their lyrics are incredibly personal.

Don’t worry about your age: BTS has fans from toddlers to centenarians. I’m 65 and fell into the rabbit hole about three years ago. BTS music and lyrics and videos (and their candidness and goofiness) helped pull me out of deep depression and I am now learning Korean so I can sing along with the songs and I’m living happier than I have ever been.

💜The song talks about the dark side of love, basically if you're not true to yourself your love won't last, and also the video is full of clues for their Bangtan Universe story that runs through a bunch of their videos. I'm on that journey now.😅

Well they have in-house producers and song writers who help with writing and producing the songs, but in the group, the main song writers are mainly RM, Suga and J-Hope. They all do write their own songs though, some of which are not released yet. I recommend a video called "BTS' Contribution To Music" by xCeleste to find out how they distribute song writing within the group.

With most BTS songs at least 1 member will participate in the writing and/or producing. But they also work with their in house producers and songwriters as well as overseas producers and songwriters. J-Hope, RM, Suga do write their rap verses and all 3 of them have over 100 songwriting credits each. As someone else mentioned you just click and drag the subtitles. I never knew this could be done either until I watched a reactor accidentally do it because they didn't know about it either. This music video is actually apart of the Bangtan Universe which is an ongoing fictional storyline that surrounds the members and their personal struggles and it includes many of their music videos since 2015.
Here is a list of the members who participated in the songwriting of the songs you've heard so far. Other writers did help write these songs too, but I'm only listing BTS members.
    Fake Love- RM
    Mic Drop- J-Hope and RM
    ON- J-Hope ,RM, Suga
    Butter-RM
    Fire-RM and Suga
    Black Swan- RM
Dynamite- no members participated in the songwriting

RM and Suga were underground rappers before joining BTS, so they have written their own lyrics since they were very young. BTS have In-House producers and writers, but the members write the lyrics as well. In BTS the main songwriter is RM, but also J-Hope and Suga have a LOT writing credits. In case of Production Suga produces the most out of the members and not only for BTS. The vocalists are now more and more involved in writing and producing, but they also helped producing or writing a few songs in the past. I recommend to watch the video “An intoduction to the seven members of BTS“ by Ida S. This video is based on their artistry and shows their contribution to the group.
I know BTS since 2016, but Fake Love was my turning point for joining the fandom. I love this song. Fyi, there is a rock remix for Fake Love from BTS. I, as a rock listener, enjoy the rock version very much 😁

BTS created a fictional universe called the Bangtan Universe (BU) and a lot of their MVs relate to that storyline. They can be enjoyed without delving into the BU, but there may be some visuals, like the snickers bars, that won't make sense outside of the BU. You guys got it right with idea of pretending to be someone else either in a romantic relationship or even with yourself ie. pretending to be someone you're not to maintain a certain persona or the like. It also has to do with personal fears; running from / avoiding your fears vs. facing them and working through those fears in order to embrace who you really are and be able to love yourself. You need to love yourself before you can truly love someone else.

Fake Love can refer to a love/hate relationship between partners, family, friends and also self-acceptance and self-love. We can see some metaphors like when RM looking at the mirror but another image appeared or Love is hot like fire (getting burnt) and cold like water (drowning effect) or Love can be devastating when the ground falling apart as Jungkook was running on the passage way. That's what I interpret from the MV.
Also, the other comments were explaining about the storyline and Bangtan Universe.

There are 3 levels of meaning to a lot of these MVs but not all. There is the surface meaning, the surface + the lyrics, then there is the connection to the BU, the Bangtan Universe, a storyline that travels thru albums, webtoons, short films, books, with different information in the Korean vs the Japanese versions of the MV. Just worry about the visual + lyrics. The best reviewers/reactors, run the MV twice. Once to watch, once for the lyrics. Then try to put things together, or put things together as you read the lyrics. The lyrics approach poetry and always add a lot. Hope this helps. I am 78, Queen fan. I subscribed several songs back. But you frustrate me to pieces only paying attention to the music. One without a MV and really good is ‘Lie’. It is a solo with Jimin. How long I stay, don’t know (not a threat. I simply treasure the art also).

They write them with other writers. RM, Suga main writers although they all write and produce. There are 3 storylines. Before listening or airing these songs look up what the meaning of the song is. They are stories. We all have felt or walked through what they experience. Fake love is pretending to love yourself or receiving fake love from others - like shutting a kid up with candy - which never satisfies a kids longing to be loved. Other storylines of them individually. We need to love ourselves not pretend with fake love.

THANK YOU for this particular reaction. This is one of my BTS favorites because of its cinematography & complexity.
I agree with the other responder suggestions that you research the song's lyrics separately from reacting to it's mv. You missed a lot of the mv by having to read lyrics during your first viewing and kpop invests a ton in its visuals. Reacting to the color coded lyric videos first might fit your style of ranking the songs, then follow up with a reaction to the mv and rank it separately. 🤔
Now for a dissection of your dissection without repeating what has already been covered. The mv is full of imagery so I'll focus on one.
One of you almost caught on to the placement of JK's solo shots throughout the mv. He plays an opposite role to every other band member. He's the only band member wearing color in the monochromatic opening of the song. JK runs across the stage, falls to his knees, and is raised up on V's back. Jin's in a solo shot looking to the left followed by a solo shot of JK looking to the right. He looks through a boarded up window into the room where Suga is sitting in front of a fire. JK acts as JHope's double during the finger pointing rap scene, asking Who Are You. He is what RM sees on the opposite side of the mirror. He looks down into the room where Jimin is standing as water starts pouring in. He is alone in the waterfall shot where the remains of the dead flower sift through his hands and again when he enters the gray room to face the dark cloaked figure. My interpretation? He's there for everyone and they are with him but in the end they all have to face [fill in the blank] alone.
Personal note: I'm a 56 yr old hard-core metal fan. I liked 2NE1 & Big Bang party music years ago but became a stan after watching the Netflix BlackPink documentary.

Fake Love” is in my top 5 from BTS. Beautiful poetic lyrics and amazing visuals. The song is not necessarily about another person and their fake love, but directed inward and basically telling the story that if you’re not true to yourself or love yourself first, then love of any kind or for anyone will always be ‘fake’ (notice they look in the mirror at themselves often). And because basically YOU are the person allowing another to have power over you, when in actuality what’s being done to you is actually not by another person but yourself because you lack self-love. It follows their “Love Yourself” album trilogy’s (3 albums-the first album is about an ideal love, “Fake Love” is on the 2nd album when the idealized love falls apart and your faced to look inward and self-reflect and question your true self)the theme of “Love Yourself” where in the last 3rd album you realize you’re the one you should love and accept the most before you can truly love anyone else. BTS launched the Love Myself campaign with UNICEF to protect children against violence around the release of these albums where part of the proceeds of the 3 albums went to the cause and 100% of sales from their Love Myself merchandise went to the cause as well. Re:Snickers bars-it’s a part of BTS fictional “BU” storyline where JHope’s mother in the story abandons him at an amusement park leaving him with only a Snickers Bar so snickers is a part of his ‘fear’ in Fake Love. BTS’ BU is pretty intricate and you have to go back from the start of the HYYH era to piece it all together it’s some pretty heavy topics they explore btw-they have a webtoons and video games based off the fictional storyline too. 💜 The visuals in Fake Love like the snickers bars, water, fire, flower are connected to BTS’ complex fictional storyline that runs through a few of their videos and hits on heavy topics such as mental health, abuse, addiction etc, so it will be confusing to newbies to BTS who haven’t gone down their storyline rabbit hole yet! The hands sculpture represents “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil”…which is also represented in movements in the choreography too. 💜

Please keep in mind that K Pop is not a genre but as Suga says an integrated approach. It blends the auditory with the visual more often than not, this including costuming, makeup, props, sets, motion, choreography and more. Yes this creates a circus atmosphere but BTS exceeds their peers by injecting meaning and messaging, often at multiple levels.
If you are stuck on a Western idea that the auditory is the almost exclusive focus in music appreciation and anything visual is an incidental pleasure you need not digest to understand the song you will most likely never be able to understand works within the Idol platform of K Pop. The visual often is an element of the song in its fullest form.
I am well older than you and certainly grew up listening to many of the same things you did. So when I hear age predisposition explanations when engaging something new and unfamiliar, I hear excuses not reasons. Age is not a limiter of understandings unless you get it into your head that it is. Over half of all BTS fans are over the age of thirty and I know BTS fans in their seventies.
BTS is the highest level practitioner of K Pop so when they do things I think it is important to understand they may not only be utilizing the integrated approach but taking it to new levels. Segregating the auditory in many cases may be depriving yourself of the experience.

I agree. The dance, music video, visual concepts and styling are all part of the performance as a whole and are considered as important as the song itself. They actually practice singing while running on the treadmill so that they have the stamina to sing well while performing the complex choreo. The visual performance has THAT much importance, hence why so much effort is put into the MV and the live shows. You do really need to check out some of their live performance at award shoes. You're in the deep end of the BTS pool here. You really need to run the video twice. Fans like that deep analysis. On the surface anyone who has been desperately in love and makes changes to themself to please the person. " erase my self to become your doll", you end up not recognizing yourself. Stay well

Yes, all members contribute to the writing and producing. I think it would be cool if you guys reacted to BTS solos. Jimin's song (Serendipity), V's (Singularity), Jin's (Epiphany), JK's, (Europhia), Jhope's (Just Dance), Suga's (Seesaw), and RM's (Love).

Everything you just watched happened for no.No CGI. Watch the making of it.All the boys write songs. They even have solo songs and mv. You have a hard time understanding because you aren't watching them in order. One mv usually has something to do with the one before. Again WATCH THE VIDEO AND DANCE PRACTICE!! You have to to see the choreography. If you paid attention at the end of the hallway of cell phones on the window was written I'M FINE. IT'S THE ONE THAT COMES AFTER THIS ONE. WATCH THE MV AND DANCE PRACTICE!! IMPORTANT. By the way they don't enhance their vocals. They don't have to. If you don't believe me watch BTS SINGING ACAPELLA. Watch their VLives.

🔥🔥 Hello! I have been watching/liking the series but I don't comment usually anywhere, but would live to join in on a discussion/ video if given the opportunity 😊 I am 34 years old, fan since 2015 when I first found them, ARMY since 2017. Big distinction in my book, casual fan vs dedicated fan, and the switch happened because of a song that came out at just when I needed it since a lot came at once both personal and health wise. My power song I played every morning for almost 18 months, and still play at least 2-3 mornings per week when I need motivation haha. I have been to a pretty fair amount of concerts/festivals in my life, have been to ~75 events and because some were festivals have seen ~100 artists perform... none have had the energy live bts does. I have spent more time, money, and effort on this group than any other artist in my entire life because their songs have connected with me in a way that very few things ever have - this is a fairly common theme in long term ARMY but it is common for a good reason 💜 great series and appreciate your opinions and how they are respectfully presented even when I don't always agree with them the honesty and reasoning is a good breakdown

I saw another CZcamsr click and drag the lyrics to the top of the video. Try that.

@@TournamentPodcast No problem. 😉 I just wish other CZcamsrs would discover that trick and use it as well. It’s hard for us as viewers to see the lyrics, too. Another thing, my problem is that the content creator doesn’t take into consideration, the volume of the video and the volume of the CZcamsr. They should both be loud enough to be heard equally. Anyone who has watched a ton of reaction views as I have, can tell you that that’s the difference between my clicking off the video, much less subscribing.

Question, when the BTS series ends, are you going to react to more BTS or are you done? Will you do this with other kpop groups? Also I'm rly excited to meet your mom! 💜

    • @pslinky
      @pslinky Před 2 lety +1

If captions are hard you could always watch the mv, and then pull up lyrics from dool set and read them over. I've seen other reactors move their cc but idk how. Side note, I'm almost 49, my 2nd concert was motley Crue when I was 12! My next concert will hopefully be a BTS concert. Love everything about this group

Thank you for being part of our series! When Season 1 ends we will be taking a short break, but Season 2 will quickly be in production. I've (Tom) produced and edited all the BTS videos in Season 1. Marty will be the new producer beginning with Season 2, and presumably Mike will take over in Season 3. We have no plans to end the series. We've having too much fun! 😍

@@TournamentPodcast great! Looking forward to it. I have another group I'd like you to check out I think you may like them, but I'm going to wait a bit to tell you, I want you to keep getting to know BTS , but when you're rdy for more groups I got you lol.

Don't be afraid to come up with and share your own interpretation. There should be no wrong answer because music, like all forms of art, is subjective

Bts has two story lines usually. The video, and the song. Each album is a part of a and idea they are going for. The videos have a storyline that goes all the was to the begging of their discography

  • @Bellmomongan

I suggest you to search the song lyric, then read the translation, after or before reaction MV... So you can understand the relation of the video and the song...
And you can watch explanation video (esp. the rap and the historical and/or their references to make the song and the MV)....
Because most army fell into the rabbit hole because of the lyrics that represent the truth of ourself...

I'm waiting for later seasons where you guys get into the real meat of BTS music. Their title tracks and covers are good but until you dive deeper into their discography you aren't getting the full experience.

The music video is difficult to understand, even if you know the Bangtan Universe. The lyrics are quite easy to understand, they're very poetic but not too complex.

  • @holliebrandt7866

Why don't you google the lyrics and read them before you watch the videos to make it easier on yourselves.

    • @TournamentPodcast

We've used doolsetbangtan on previous videos, but it may be a good idea for us to consistently use it moving forward.
