Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Am i hallucinating or half of Anthony's flannel is actually redder than the other
Khánh Nguyễn oh fuck! You’re right!

I see it too lol
This is clearly the work of a dark entity from the bowels of Tartarus. Be very afraid.
fuck now I can't unsee it
"It sounds royalty free" that's harsh lmao
achronos178 If Fantano calls your music that you’re fucked.

This is the 61st review of 2020
Comment copied and pasted by“Andrew K” please don't hate on him :]
@Elizabeth individual tracks or songs I think
The review of the last Have A Nice Life album was also controversial
Magicant: that was 2019, not 2020
@@MrMaxMaximal everything is blurring together
@Elizabeth Yeah My bad. Thanks :)
Melon: 4/10
Literally every music pub: 2nd best album of 2020
Ok Melon man it’s been a year since the last worst to best, there is absolutely no excuse now we’re all in quarantine. I’m going to be very disappointed if I don’t see one soon. Love, Mom.
Hey mom Anthony stole my Legos and won't give them back
Pink Floyd Worst to Best !!
etK Official pink floyd or Bowie🤞
Buckethead worst to best!
Pink Floyd: Worst to Wish You Were Here
Anthony the truck on the album cover says “ford” not four
This is super confusing to me: Why do I have TWO amazingly attractive girlfriends even though I am the unprettiest CZcamsr EVER? Good night dear kid
AxxL stfu no one cares about your shitty CZcams channel
AxxL stop man, your sisters deserve better 😤😤
@@AxxLAfriku imma go out on a limb here and say you're channel is dog shit
AxxL I’d rather get coronavirus than watch your shit videos
Metacritic: “Oh yah! Very good”
Anthony: *slips into red flannel* “oh nah!”
Elizabeth melon>pitchfork
Pitchfork is mostly retarded now. They just give 6’s and 7’s to everything no matter how bad they are
Connor Bennett Or good, honestly
A pretty harsh review for something so light and delicate as an album goes. It's a real refreshing and relaxing tone from Waxahatchee which I've absolutely loved. It's not trying too hard to catch the listener, but happily does so because it's such an addictive guitar driven country record. Sounds so good when driving in the warm sun.
I listened to it on a roadtrip through Arizona, it was sooo lovely
If this was a waxahatchee album you would've given it a 4.
Man I have disagreed with Melon almost consistently through 2020 so far.
Curtis Bean It be like that sometimes
Nothing wrong with that.
Same dude I’m not getting him so far this year. Some of these albums he’s slamming I really thought he would like
Yeah, he's just one asshole among many.
At a certain point in one's development one does usually realize that they are a separate organism capable of independent action.
I don't get how you can review a folk album so focused on songwriting and lyricism, and criticise the originality. It's obviously something you favour, but it's also not at all the point. It's pretty clear she's diving into the genre's rootsier side, which favours deep introspection and subtle dynamism rather than breaking the mould. Feels pretty surface level to review it that way. Obviously, it's cool if you're not into the album. It's your opinion. But your style doesn't hold much room to even really touch on the thematics of the album which are a central pull for listeners. Similar to how you reviewed Big Thief, Mitski, Lucy Dacus etc without really talking about what those songs are about, how the lyrics and melodies work, and why listeners might find it relatable or noteworthy
Also, her vocal (both in its tone, phrasing and interesting melodic twists) is pretty damn standout for music in this style.
Completely agree. I always like his reviews because he seemd to articulate the idea of a record so well, but I felt like he clearly missed the point here. There were parts where I truly thought "What the hell are you talking about?" Maybe it's just my positive bias towards this record, I personally really like, so much actually that it's a strong contender for AOTY so far, but this review just felt cheap.
kiekoes yeah, i agree! I feel like music of this nature borders on literary on how much you can feel the singer’s perspective, and how she lets you into her emotions. Some of his comments feel like listening to Dylan and going “hmm the guitar tones aren’t very exciting”, when that’s not at all the point
nailed it. I find it very nonthreatening. simplicity works in its favour. my first instinct was to trash it because it's not only country/folk, but basic as fuck. Then I recognized that her voice is the main attraction here, and actually always has been. Also realized that it doesn't grate on me culturally, like "genuine" country music often does. I love the friendly intimacy here. I'm a Western Canadian punk/indie dude, but I feel like a hometown girlfriend of hers on a coffee date.
now here's a stretch, but dare I say, there's something kinda punk about putting a record out in this style with "royalty-free" instrumentation and shallow vocal delivery.
So in conclusion, I like that it continues this trend of artists upsetting the country music apple cart... deconstructing the method, creating something to scratch the indieheads.
Its borinf
Anthony misses the point on many a good work. I don't look to him, however, as a professional critic, in spite of his making a living from reviews, but as just another in an endless string of amateurs on YT who give their two cents.
It's literally under 1 minute since this was uploaded and there's already shitposting in the comments.
I mean he shouldn't have said "burned the bus with rosa parks in it"
Quarantine has elevated shitposting to levels never before seen commander
lowkey i find it funny tho lmao some people are clever wivit
I've got my meme shit post copied on my clipboard and ready to paste into the Fantwon comments section at all times
Man I love the commetns tho
This album actually surprised me. Gave me a Bob Dylan vibe. I give it a light 7/10
Anthony I believe you are mistaken, "Indie Country" has nothing to do with India, the country. I found this a terrible build-up to your 6-minute anti-South Asian rant.
😂😂😂
You only gave this a 4 because you don’t like it
Why listen to something he doesn't like smh my head....
A NOT GOOD (explosion)
Exactly ugh what an idiot
@Animal Crackers its a joke, think about what i actually said
It’s too early for all this red flannel energy melon
Amazing review, didn't watch it.
I respectfully disagree. I think Katie enveloped a mellower tone in order to fluctuate her lyricism and make her story-telling a more central focus point. Rather than rely on raw sound for emotional eccentricity like with her last two albums, Katie utilized Saint Cloud to represent how she's matured along with her music in controlling and dealing with her past. And while I can agree that not every track is memorable, I still feel like the album as a whole has a unique characteristic in itself, simply because it's Katie's perspective of the world.
yeah that's all well and good but the album is mad boring
@@friendlywitness I mean, it's a matter of opinion. For people like me who appreciate consistency and story-telling, this album is a delicacy to the ears. For those who want each track to be unique and flavorful, then yes, I could see how Saint Cloud could come across as boring. I'm sorry this album didn't resonate with you as it did with me.
Cracker & Cocaine For sure. For example, the same was true for the Nicolas Jaar album, Cenizas, that he just reviewed 8/10. It could easily be seen as boring, grating, and too abstract to be enjoyable to some.
Govind Pisharodi i loved cenizas, i love a great number of very subtle records - this album is just hella sleepy. the songs are borderline indistinguishable from one another, the sound is flat, and the lyrics aren't compelling enough to save it for me.
Ben Ryland Very understandable, although I do think the relaxed tone was intended.
we get it... you are a chevy guy
idk i thought this album was the best one since ps eliot
Incorrect! This album is tremendous, a poetric, beautiful and elegant ride through a superb storyteller's life
Saint Cloud is a classic!
I know it has nothing to do with this, but three words: *Caroline Rose: Superstar*
Unironically a light 9/10
I hated it at first but it REALLY grew on me imo it’s a strong 8
Anthony it’s past your bedtime! 😡
I knew I'll love this album because he hates it and yes, I was right once again.
Huh? This is a good album. Anthony’s teeth game: light to decent 4.
Wow, I didn’t think he’d give it a 10!
I didn't think so either, and we weren't wrong!
Yeah! He’s really been on a roll with the flannels, but I guess he has always been the clown of the class.
Melon is a very kind man
yeah, 10/25
Anthony the kids are mine for the weekend. Please I don't want to get the courts involved with this.
Props to Anthony for never disabling comments
Ikr the mans a treasure. I dont know how he feels about this lmao
I'm guessing he gives it a light 3. Melon wishes things were different, but he's accepted it.
there’s melon’s obligatory “4/10 to a woman’s country record that has otherwise been very acclaimed” for the year. wonder what our “6/10 to a groundbreaking female singer songwriter” will be.
SteadyRhythms Satire I hope?
oooooo melon... you wrong on this one okay bye
Did you just say “War is kinda neat?” You must be stoked about Biden’s candidacy.
Anthony has the worst comment section on CZcams. Same recycled jokes every video
Bad? Yes, very much so.
Worst? Not even close.
relly rel it’s not good, but nowhere close to the worst
Hey Anthony, my mom says we can have a sleepover if you're allowed to
Still your worst take of the year, sorry Melon. Can't win em' all. Respect tho
Hi melon, thank you for sending me the homework for our Zoom class.
A beautiful album. Lilacs is one of the best singles of that year!
One of my most anticipated albums of this year and for me it didn’t disappoint. Can’t help thinking you went into this review with a opinion you weren’t going to like it no matter what.
overused trash memes incoming
I don't get how the same jokes get so many likes, maybe new viewers who haven't seen them for the millionth time
Because the memes are GOD! You will love the memes, no matter what you think or feel, LOVE THEM! 🧎🏼♂️🙇🏼♂️🙌
Fan base is nothing but a bunch of 15 year olds lmao
@@Ryan-wr8fx since around the Damn review really
I think the quarantine is messing with your brain
Agree that it's not got a lot of teeth. No songs I'm just loving or I find super memorable, but it's very pleasant, like a warm summer day. I love her voice, like the first 4 tracks a lot. Agree on The Eye. Arkadelphia is pretty boring to me though, same with the last 2 tracks. I'd probably give it a strong 5, light 6 just because it's so easy and enjoyable.
Chris Raque well said. Her last album I thought just killed it on every track, with great rock and sweet, cathartic songwriting. This album just feels pleasant. Honestly, it feels like the album she needed to make after getting sober. Good for her.
I can't believe he only gave the album a 4 as it was one of the better albums released this year. I would much rather listen to it then changes. I'm surprised that he put the eye was least favorite track as that was one of my favorites from the album.
One day he’s gonna be reviewing my music 😌
One of your most underrated albums ever
Pitchfork gave Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree a 4.6, do you agree?
songwriting and singing is great on this album
I think this is the melon review I disagree with the most. Such a stellar project.
Anthony, this album is strong.
I feel like I know how it mustve felt for Kacey Musgrave fans :(
Stop holding the 9's hostage Anthony
Please, my family are starving
Its Code Orange, he accidentally gave them an 8, silly Melon
i see red flannel; i click
Lol this was def in my 2020 top 5. Goes to show melon is just melon, and u gotta just u ironically love what u love bc it makes u feel good
anthony i am very mad at you this year >:(
I feel like anthony is slowly turning into a music review channel
I must agree
this review really did it for me man, he really got some bad taste in music, not to mention how surface-level his reviews are, like it's actually quite unbelievable how much airtime this man gets, given the few criteria he scores new albums on. obviously he's entitled to his own opinion, but damn..
It’s almost like Fantano has his own taste in music, and music is a subjective art that people have different opinions on, opinions which you may even disagree with. What a concept.
first UFOF with the 5/10, now saint cloud with the Light 4???? What do you have against well written/engineered folk rock records with gripping vocals?
This isn't the Exeter review Anthony.
Electric chair
This is the 34th review in a row with Cosmogramma in the background
You're being too harsh lately Melony. Although this album is quite meh, it doesn't deserve a red flannel.
Melon will you please review the new Soccer Mommy and Porridge Radio albums? Please.
I really liked color theory
Your comment section is more entertaining than your videos
Is this album talking about St. Cloud MN? Cuz yeah Id give that a 4/10 too
Scott Scribner 4 is generous
Or St. Cloud Florida where I’m from lol
Review Cal Chuchesta's new diss track. He outs you as a blatant racist with bad oral hygiene due to your excessive meat consumption.
Make an America: Not Good
Anthony just remember that Boy Scouts is cancelled tonight due to an outbreak of measles. Stay safe and see you next week (we're gonna roast smores!!)
Agree, I loved Cerulean Salt. Most everything after has sounded kinda bland and nothing has really stuck with me. She has an amazing & unique voice, seems like still “finding her sound”....
Good God, the comments are fucking embarrassing...
Wow bold of Anthony to say that a 4 was payback for a white woman appropriating a Native American word
Melon seems alittle SASSY in this one fellas 💁🏼♀️
Fantano is taking absolutely no prisoners during his quarantine reviews and I’m here for it.
You didn't have to shave all your hair off to follow the stupid trend during this pandemic, Anthony.
Dude what's up with you lately? Who hurt you?
Another day, another review, another wave of angry comments blasting Fantano for not giving this "masterpiece" a good review.
does he like music at all?
Only if it's edgy
Yes
Jeremias Figueiredo He likes the music that he likes. Bless your little heart that everyone doesn’t align with your musical taste. 😢
@@DefenestrateYourself i don't even like this album, I was just being ironic
I finally figured out his reviews based on his flannel
Thus album is not worth the minutes Melon lost dissecting it,what anpiece of non inspired shit
Wow after all this time I guess Anthony isn't a simp
You know, I’m a strong believer in banning all use of “simp”, despite being pretty close to a “free speech absolutist”, but uh, ya done good kid. Nice meme. 9/10
No, Anthony!! How dare you have OPINIONS which go against other OPINIONS!! This is unnacceptable, how can you not enjoy what EVERYONE IS ENJOYING???? (according to pitchfork)

PTSD BY G HERBO!
Worst take yet imo, perfectly written album that just washes over you. Katie has a hell of a way of writing deeply personal songs that you can still connect to.
Watch Christgau (correctly) rate this an A
you were right, well A- but yeah
Waxahatchee's album is a masterpiece compared to Sam Hunt's new album, melon.
it's just you
Still waiting on a review on the new Yves Tumor. To me it's absolutely stunning. Unless, you know... you say otherwise
Again. Anti-pitchfork
Aaron Mena I honestly don’t know what the fuck Pitchfork is praising nowadays, it’s either mediocre Pop/RnB/Rap or insipid, bland indie folk like this.
Just because you post your opinion on youtube doesn't mean that you post your opinion on CZcams
Disagree with some of what’s here- Out in the Storm is hands down one of the most cathartic rock albums out there, and probably the best rock breakup album ever. However, this... it’s just so much of a change, it’s really not what I expected. It’s not grabbing me. Good for her for doing what she wants, but I just think this could have been a solo album, doesn’t seem like the same project at all. That said, I adore Waxahatchee. It’s clear you don’t, though, even though she’s put out a lot of great music
Yet another indie album overwhelms Fantano's limited emotional intelligence. He should just stick with hip-hop and pop, honestly.
One of the best albums of the year.
Bad review
Henrik Sørensen Fantano not being aligned to your personal music taste does not make it a bad review. This shouldn’t need to be explained. He supported his low review score with valid reasons and examples. Feel free to provide any actual counterpoints if you’re able.
@@DefenestrateYourself it's just his own bad taste in music.
I just find it very strange, the album has recived great reviews all around. Exept mr. Fantano.
So who is right?
@@DefenestrateYourselfit's just One guys opinion. One review against all the other great reviews of this album.
Henrik Sørensen Both. It’s music and therefore it’s subjective. Who cares about taste? How well can you defend your opinions is what actually matters. He always does this well, regardless if the subject is popular or not.
Henrik Sørensen Exactly. So why take it so personally? In the description in all his videos he says “you know this is just my opinion, right?” What matters is he takes the time to listen to music and succinctly articulates the music’s merits (or lack thereof). Still waiting on those counterpoints
Bernie just dropped out of the election and I am fucking gutted
Very good review Fantano, and thank you for saving my cat down from that tree on thursday
Pitchfork gave this an 8.7 and I was so confused
4 is confusing. Too low!
You mean I’ve been pronouncing it wrong all this time?!
No way dude how are you shitting on pretty much every good album this year?! Yves Tumor review to save the day?
“Going over some key moments on the record we got can’t do much”
Hey Melon,
I've been looking through the comments and I've noticed that people write really nasty things. If you're ever feeling down or have thoughts of harming yourself you can talk to me.
Anthony please review the You and you’re friends album by Peach Pit.
You've likely discussed this in the past, but I often wonder how you feel time (or the lack thereof) plays into your final opinion of an album. Obviously some records take multiple listens (sometimes in distinct settings or under specific circumstances) to sink in, while others sound great on day one before revealing themselves as extremely thin. I'm sure you've experienced this, but just considering the number of albums you end up reviewing, how do you ensure a "grower" isn't tossed off?
As you can likely tell, I liked St. Cloud. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely a catchy pop/rock record with strong enough melodies to lead me to rolling my windows down. Then again, it's not super-complex, so your dislike of it probably wouldn't change despite a hundred more spins.
Uh oh, red flannel.
