AVENGED SEVENFOLD - LIFE IS BUT A DREAM... / 2023 / WARNER / KITCHEN SINK METAL
NOT GOOD/10
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Hudba
I was convinced that he was going to stare off into the distance for 10 minutes and 54 seconds based on the intro alone but he did a standard review and I don't know if I'm happier with this outcome or not
That would've been equally as acceptable, that was my reaction after hearing this thing

That was also my expectation.

Dude he shit all over it and it's not even that bad. Yes I can agree with him some parts of the record are just weird and outta leftfield but I still enjoyed the prog and more complex songs like Cosmic and G.
I'm a huge a7x fan as singles i don't like it lol but as a whole album I think its a banger

@midastheunwise2423 I just can't with this. I have listened to it 3 separate times completely and it's just a complete miss for me
Every way you described this album sounds amazing. Broadway clown in field of demons meets fish in space with thin guitars?!? Weird Al avant garde metal? Hideous jazz metal? Might have to buy it today.
It is great, the more I listen to it the more I love it, there's only one song on it I dislike. Honestly might become my favorite album by them.
For reference, there's a song on this that starts off sounding like AIC then suddenly genre swaps to some drugged out Beatles shit, and a song that sounds like a 50s big band crooner song that turns to batman music at random. Shit's wild.
@bensmith6192 Is it Easier? That's the only song that doesn't click with me so far, the southern rock solo at the end makes me feel like it's from self titled era and I can appreciate it but it's been a skip for me lately

People mocking Fantano for saying the last song was "ragtime music" forget that he has no real concept of romantic-era classical music, or really any classical piano rep. His comparison to ragtime is probably referring to ragtime's frequent stylistic borrowings from classical music for slower sections. That being said, this album really is prog rock/metalcore collage, more genre-clashing than avant-garde, which typically entails pushing stylistic limits rather than retreating to familiar tropes in palatable genres.

I didn’t like the songs as much as I wanted to, but I absolutely LOVE the fact that one of the biggest bands on the planet said fuck making money and did whatever they wanted. I hope it inspires more bands to do the same because it will result in some incredible music.
this album sounded like krokodil. i genuinely feel as if i got lead poisoning from hearing this album in full.
The album fucked around with Fantano’s head… and that was the point.
Regardless of whether you like this A7X album or hate it, it gives you AN experience lol.
Honestly, that's how they've always been. You can hate all their projects, but no one can deny each of them is a journey.
Call it pretentious if you want, but Tool helped me understand that not all music is supposed to sound good. Some of it is supposed to challenge you
@@hurricanev6
In my case it’s Liking the band (and half of the new album), but I completely get why Fantano didn’t vibe with this one at all. 😅
@@sentientcardboarddumpster7900 but tool actually does sound good
@@FrshChees91 True to you and a lot of people but there are a lot of people who don't dig Tool. But they are undeniably thought provoking and sonically challenging
Based off of We love you, I thought I was gonna absolutely hate this album. But then I listened to the album in its entirety and I really liked it. Ending with a piano track is a W to me, for any artist. I'll be going back to songs like Cosmic, Death, life is but a dream, beautiful morning more than the others. Weird and interesting. Still can't get into we love you. I'm impressed with their overall work.
I never want to hear A7X imitate Ministry and Voivod ever again.
Well M shadows lost his voice. And they took a LONG 5 years break smoking weed... and it totally shows.
i actually kind of like this album
Don't let anybody dictate what you should like or dislike, I also love this album, and I'm not gonna let anybody tell me otherwise
Trash album lmao
Same! Nothing will please everyone
i fucking LOVE the album. it rips.
@@ryannoelle5844 yeah it rips ass. Absolute dogshit album
After watching this vid I finally understood why I liked this album so much:D
Hahaha. Yea I'm definitely growing all my hair out and getting lasik and cranking this shit. The new album is great
I really did love this album, but I will agree with a few things said in this review. Some of the lyrics really are dry and uncreative, and the G-O-D thing really makes no sense since the songs aren’t connected sonically or lyrically.
I was confused listening to it when it first dropped, but it's grown on me. I just wish it had been released as a side project, instead of their studio album.
Honestly the way you passionately described this album made it sound incredibly badass. You legitimately made me want to check it out cause of how interesting you made it sound
I love it so much man. Give it a listen
It’s a 10/10
It’s actually really good. Fantano doesn’t hardly like any metal bands from the 00s besides system. Just not his cup of tea
Lmao he did make it sound bad ass
@@davidcoffman321He actually likes a lot, they're just mostly extreme metal bands
Honestly, the weirdness is what makes it stand out. A lot of rock/metal bands usually go the Imagine Dragons route when they’re this far along in their careers, so I gotta give A7X credit for mixing it up.
That being said, this album is one you will either really love or really hate. No in between.
'the Imagine Dragons route' that made me cringe hard
I'm inbetween, it think it's decent, yeah a decent steady release from A7X. Some of the weird stuff worked for me, some of the stuff didn't. Anthony really didn't need to make it sound like it's one of the worst metal albums ever though.
@@nicholasvladdwhat does that mean anyway, I’m guessing they mean that a lot of bands become generic and repetitive at this point but when were imagined dragons ever unique and interesting?
@@leoncorbett4553 he means the production. Imagine Dragons has a tendency to over produce the shit out of their music to make it sound as 'epic' as possible
@@nicholasvladd true. If you ever feel useless just remember than imagine dragons has a guitarist
That's pretty much the state of all pop metal bands
This comment section would seem to confirm that Sevenfold went and made an album that simultaneously caters to people who hate their previous work and pisses off their legacy fanbase. Given that fact they seem to be more interested in selling NFT's than being a band in recent years, it's not all that surprising.
People either hate it or love this album. I've never been a big A7X fan, but I love this album. Cosmic is a masterpiece and also Mattel. Overall a good album.
Me remembering when M Shadows said on his podcast that they aim to make every album as different as possible from the last one and each album needs to find its own audience:
“Well. Guess he isn’t part of this albums audience. Oh well.”
I love this album. Cosmic is easily one of the most gorgeous songs I’ve heard in my life. It seems to me that most of the criticism of this album is “it’s not like their other albums.” It’s very reminiscent of when City of Evil came out and was equally despised. I’m glad A7X doesn’t give a rats ass about the criticism of their albums. It makes their music more different and more beautiful.
I haven't seen anything relating to "most of the criticism of this album is “it’s not like their other albums.”" Could you direct me to such comments?
@@derekrequiem4359 Just a stan coping in a review where the video description literally says "Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?"
thats... that's not at all what his review said? he didn't make a single comment about it not sounding like the other albums, in fact he literally said he just doesn't care much about the other albums at all. the bulk of the criticism was "it's trying to do so many things and doing none of them particularly well" which is an incredibly accurate assessment of the album
Yeah city of evil truly was the start of their genre jumping and then the self titled album went way further. Idk why it’s a surprise to anyone. I’d prefer this to a nightmare or hail to the king copy even though I like those albums
What you talking about? City of Evil wasn't despised, City of Evil and the singles bat country etc is where they gained most of there fanbase and what launched there career to headlining festivals and selling out stadiums
The reason the album sucks is because it’s an Avenged Sevenfold album. If they wanted to stray this far from their style they should’ve scrapped the name and started something else.
Melon you’re a few days too late, I already formed my opinion and I love the album
Joke aside idk why I’m surprised by this review but the album is fucking sick imo, and a very unique sound from A7X. It’s most certainly worth the listen and I think cosmic is a literal perfect song
this album is an absolute event that everyone should absolutely attend
You’re absolutely right
I'm a mannnnn
Without a heaaadddd
More weed, more sex, more crack
Just bought me and my dad 2 tickets to see them live!

This review is so funny. As someone who personally enjoys the record, Anthony isn’t wrong on all his points
People have their opinions but good lord Cosmic alone made me like this album lol that song to me is A7X's Runaway. Overall I appreciated what they did here and enjoyed that they did something new rather than just stick to the same old formula that most bands do
Yeah the fish in space metaphor is the greatest way of describing this album but you can’t make me not love it Anthony
I lost it when he said “Goo-goo ga-ga metal” 😂
This album gets better and better and when I know that Anthony doesn't like something...
I know its good!
imagine having spite-based music taste lol
The sheer amount of cope in this and the other comments here 😂 Enjoy what you like by all means, but this is so desperate lol
