Damn, I just checked and the company really thought of everything that could make this dangerous. It seems the rider in this video is actually wearing shoes with no shoe laces in addition to those gloves (which appear to be designed to prevent your individual fingers from getting caught), elbow pads, and helmet. I imagine they have those shoes on hand for riders similar to the way bowling places have bowling shoes you can borrow while you're there.
Good safety culture, I note 3 different ‘controls’ keeping you safe: 1. Padding & gloves aka PPE 2.The spotter 3. The lady on the left working the kill-switch As a former safety inspector, I would give a good rating

And the flat surface on his palms is likely to stop his individual fingers from entering the slots where the bristles emerge from. We called them “Pinch points”. They also likely help him keep his balance, but I’m guessing on that bit for I have no surfing experience lol

This is such a cool invention. It's getting people used to the feeling of surfing and riding a wave/developing the balance for it without the impact of getting hit by all the waves, falling non stop and swallowing water constantly. I'd think that something like this would encourage a lot more people to get into surfing. If they'd had one of these when I was a kid I would've definitely done it and gotten into surfing at a young age. It always looked like tons of fun but the grueling practice required to get good at it and getting pounded by waves, swallowing water and falling constantly didn't really appeal to me. Always have loved the sport though. They gotta market this more around the world and get it mass produced. I could see some pro surfers ordering a large half pipe sized version of these to have at their house. Especially after they suffer an injury. They need a way to slowly work their way back onto the water.
Yes learn the sensation of surfing without being exposed to any of the things that actually make up a surfing session. At least it will keep some people out of the water that probably shouldn’t be there in the first place

It's good practice and a good starting point for young people who want to get into surfing. The point of it isn't for it to be a hobby or to get people out of the water lol. Obviously a person who did this a few times would eventually go into the water and experience all the things that make up surfing. It's just supposed to get you used to the sensation/feeling of riding a wave and balancing on a board. No idea what the point of your negative comment was. @@Cameron_Caron It was invented as a gimmick that you might see at an indoor activity center and the irony of your comment is that this thing looks about 100x more dangerous for beginners with poor balance than just grabbing a foam board and getting in the whitewash like every other person whose ever learned to surf has done. This is nothing like surfing and will do absolutely nothing useful for a beginner who wants to learn to actually surf (apart from possibly injuring them). An average surf session consists of about 1-5% of actually riding waves, with the other 95% of the time spent negotiating the ocean (paddling, duck diving/turtle rolling, positioning, getting caught inside etc). So no... this isn't a good training tool and it isn't a good way to expose beginners to what it's like to surf. Period. I have no problem with people learning but the only way to do it is to actually get in the water. This is simply the truth and if I'm coming off as being negative it's because I'm sick of seeing so many "surf training" gimmicks that are actually more dangerous than actually just doing it.

Each row of brushes should be offset by half to be go between the previous row of brushes - this way the surfing would feel more smooth.

It's good practice and a good starting point for young people who want to get into surfing. The point of it isn't for it to be a hobby or to get people out of the water lol. Obviously a person who did this a few times would eventually go into the water and experience all the things that make up surfing. It's just supposed to get you used to the sensation/feeling of riding a wave and balancing on a board. No idea what the point of your negative comment was. The internet is a very sad and negative place, because most people on it are like you.
@@Cameron_Caron It was invented as a gimmick that you might see at an indoor activity center and the irony of your comment is that this thing looks about 100x more dangerous for beginners with poor balance than just grabbing a foam board and getting in the whitewash like every other person whose ever learned to surf has done.
This is nothing like surfing and will do absolutely nothing useful for a beginner who wants to learn to actually surf (apart from possibly injuring them). An average surf session consists of about 1-5% of actually riding waves, with the other 95% of the time spent negotiating the ocean (paddling, duck diving/turtle rolling, positioning, getting caught inside etc).
So no... this isn't a good training tool and it isn't a good way to expose beginners to what it's like to surf. Period. I have no problem with people learning but the only way to do it is to actually get in the water. This is simply the truth and if I'm coming off as being negative it's because I'm sick of seeing so many "surf training" gimmicks that are actually more dangerous than actually just doing it.
