Lol true story
Went surfing for a whole week, thought I could handle the big waves and went really far out. The wave was like 7 feet (tiny but it was the fifth day of surfing in my entire life). Fell of my surfboard and the wave rolled me around underwater, I was like a little doll completely at the behest of nature. In that moment for the first time in my life I truly thought I was going to die, canât image what it feels like to fall Into one of those whoppers.
When I was 10 I was wave diving in Spain and a 5m wave came and the same thing happened to me but for some reason I wasnât afraid? At the time I was swimming almost every day and had practiced swimming underwater and holding my breath for ages. If that happened now Iâd be terrified though đ I need to get back into it. Iâd love to surf but I love wave diving so much. I donât know what itâs really called but my dad taught me it, I guess he did it when he was surfing and lost his surf board?
@@lildreamsky5584 well if weâre talking about dramatic experiences when I was 4 I got hit with like a half a meter wave and was very frightened. End to my story
when i was 9, i was 9 years old.
All these stories sound horrific and terrifying glad Iâve never experienced them : )
I felt the same way the first time I wiped out, like I was actually going to die. It was scary af
Man just hears about the tsunami coming to wipe out the city and he casually grabs his surfboard.

Death defying drops, wow! The odd thing about surfers is that they have huge balls but are very humble because they face the power of nature every day. The ocean can be very menacing and break you in half like a twig anytime. The water can turn ice cold with one current going through. There are jagged rocks, undertows, rip tides, wave smashes that churn you into pulp, sand bars that can break your fingers and bones, and more. You never know what you get that day in the ocean. So you remain humble. But it takes a special kind of courage to the point of foolhardiness to tackle those waves, and a lot of strength and experience and split second decisions. A rare breed are surfers.
What about being injured from your board or leash or by some apex predator beneath?
What about the female surfers.
Bruh. Iâll take death by parachuting/BASE jumping over drowning any day. At least youâll get a nice view with the former!đ

Many years of training. So at 18 he has been surfing his whole life to be a proficient big wave surfer.
The mother of Antonio is so sweet. His father and him are cautious but excited to be in the water and sheâs there on shore like âI pray, I pray a lot.â đ Bless her.
Antonio was without masks. Very dangerous.
@Riverflower I was thinking the same. The fact she is accepting and even supportive of such a dangerous sport her husband and son participate in is commendable. It must be really hard to watch them.
Seeing the volume of water in large waves in the sea is so terrifying yet you canât help but watch in awe.
When these waves break, they make the water literally boil. You can see it bubbling for some time,

I've spent a lot of summers in Nazaré, I've spent a lot of time in (ocean) water. You're not close at all, trust me. One thing is the comfort and soft water of a shower... Another is a wild gigantic massive beast that can break your neck and spine, burying you in 6 meters of water like nothing. That sea is rough, brutal and cold... Fyi you feel the cold right in your bones too. Not a comfortable feeling let me tell you but they say it's therapeutic, idk... After a few dives you get used to it. It certainly isn't for people with a weak spirit.
Sorry for the dramatization but it really is a night/day difference and I understand where you coming from... I like showers too lol
@@Trip4man đ€ but you feel the cold right in the bones in every water (maybe not in all but in most haha).. That doesn't happen only in NazarĂ©.
Are you portuguese? If so (or not), take a break of surfing one day and go to Fragas de SĂŁo SimĂŁo. You'll then know what's cold (or almost like freezing to death - I'm kinda exaggerating but at the same time I'm not) đ also, you have an amazing landscape in front of your eyes haha

I never realized that a lot of these guys are spiritually connected to their craft. Really cool. I love hearing philosophies behind dangerous sports. Listening to Alex Honnold talk about free soloing is also a trip.
Itâs more like they are toying with death so much their soul is literally going in and out of their physical body because it is that scary.

Surfing has to be the most toughest and dangerous sport in the entire world. Just a human trying to strike a delicate balance with nature. No two waves are ever the same. Exhilarating to watch-I can only imagine what it's actually like to surf massive big waves. Respect to *all* surfers in the world-amateur and professional.
I will always respect the Ocean. It is so powerful that you inherently respect It. And at the same time, It is fascinating and beautiful.
Agreed.. i love the ocean
I was at the beach last month and I was thinking about how the Ocean has done more work at this point than all the humans in all of human history will do. Force = Mass of all waves x Velocity they are moving x Distance they displace the water. I have a hard time imagining that number in Joules of work and it NEVER stops doing that work.

Always jaw dropping...watching beasts meet, interact, play, chase and challenge each other.

And let me tell you in that fort/lighthouse (it's the two things, was a fort to defend the Nazaré village from pirates and after that they put a lighthouse to help boats stay out of this waves).
In that lighthouse you have a great view from the big waves, the waves almost reach 30mts and the light house is higher than 60mts. But sometimes even the foam can reach the fort, but when the waves break you can feal it in your body because they are very powerful waves.
