    I believe Canon made a big mistake with the C200/B: meaning they shouldn’t have given us such an amazing camera (12bit RAW) for such an affordable price. Lucky us! And thanks to YOU for helping us unlock its magical powers! 🏆

    Hi Rubidium, thanks for another great video on the C200.
    I picked ups this camera on sale, and your take on the camera was possibly the biggest reason why. I looked ate the BMPCC 6K, Canon R5, C100mii, C300mii, and the C200. Im really pleased with the choice. Once I made up my mind to get on with working with the RAW codec and set aside all the nonsense about .... well all the stuff we see out there, it validated my decision 100%.
    I also believe that storage and processing tech is expanding at such a rapid rate that all the current issues will be a distant memory a year or two from now.
    Please keep on posting on the camera. Your tut is on my radar!
    Thanks again - from South Africa.

    I attended your C 200 class in New York. After that class I became a great operator of this camera. I think people just aren’t taking the time out to actually learn their equipment. They are chasing new shiny objects on the market. But they don’t understand, that if they don’t learn how to work their new shiny object, they will sell that camera to and buy another one. This process goes on and on and on. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for the feedback! I couldn't agree more. There are amazing films out there shot with DSLRs because people learned their camera and they understand how to use it. Everyone wants more gear but the real work is understanding what you have.

      Crimson Engine Many 1-2 min “quick cuts” artist videos for web (which this camera is perfect for, with short bursts of raw shooting) but also some documentary work, which I hate using raw for long interviews but the footage is so nice looking I go with it. Using the solid pod and bought many solid pod readers + 1tb ssd’s to be able bring hours worth of raw storage into the field 🤘

I was a little intimidated to work with it at first because of the file sizes, but I’m starting to get in a rhythm with the workflow. • @TradRecords
    @TradRecords Před 3 lety +1

    I can relate to this. We would be seriously thinking of selling our new C200's because they don't seem to be an upgrade from the C100 if you'r not really going for raw. We are left with recording internally on sd-card or on an external recorder (Blackmagic video assist 12G), but both of those methods have such different results In DR. We hoped to be able to have 422 external recording, that looks close to the C100 canon log, and is gradable. Not RAW, but still less compressed then the C100 to start with. But after spending some time checking gamma an color matrix options, the C100 internal sd-card recordings actually always win. We hope to get over this issue, because reselling these will be pity. On the other hand, owning 2 C200's and preferring our older C100's maybe feels worse for the investment we've made.

    • @SpiderVideo
      @SpiderVideo Před 3 lety

      Crimson Engine always xfavc. Occasionally in raw if doing greenscreen. Here a question then, mp4 vs xfavc. Benefits to both or one better than the other?

  • @NaturalGallantBodybuilding

    Two things I noticed that might be interesting to you. First of all, when I shoot a clip in RAW, when I'm looking at the screen I get one read out of the waveform exposure, but when I play it back, it is 20 points higher. I guess because of how the playback reads the clip. Point number two, which is the most frustrating, once I upgraded the firmware if I choose "face only" focus and I'm filming in the forest, if I turn my head the camera loses focus every time. Something they did with upgrading the firmware messed with the autofocus adjustment for some reason.

    • @Crimsonengine
      @Crimsonengine  Před 3 lety

      The first one is the difference between clog3 and clog2. C200 can't display clog2 for some weird reason, but you shoot it non the less. For the second, try reducing the auto focus response to -5. It will wait a long time before looking for a new focus point.

    Another fantastic video. At the end of day, is it best to shoot RAW in Clog or Clog3? If I use Clog3, leave my Gamma basis in Premiere Pro at Clog2 (Clog), that seems to be the best. Which begs the question; then why am I shooting in Clog3 at all? Help us Obi Wan. From what I am hearing on this video, Clog3 is simply a DISPLAY setting, not whats actually going down on the card in RAW, which is Clog2 (indicated as simply Clog on the C200, there is no Clog2 option in RAW).

    I am also only shooting RAW with my C200, cause I didn't like the XFAVC in terms of sharpness and overall look. But I really like how the C200 looks in RAW. For long term interviews up to 2 hours or longer, I unfortunately need to use the XFAVC and everytime I am really disappointed when editing. That's why I am planning to upgrade to the C300 Mark III (and because of the cleaner shadows and the therefore much faster editing time).

    Thanks for this, you've given my c200 extra life several times over already. One thing I've found that there's a huge difference in how AF performs on the c200 even when using native L glass -- e.g., the 85 1.4 is lovely and gives you speed AND response options, whereas the 50mm 1.2 & 24 1.4 only give you speed (response is greyed out.) Sadly, the Sigma 18-35, while allowing both speed and response settings is, (apart from being ridiculously loud) the spottiest AF lens I have as far as recognizing a face -- have you found this to be the case?

    • @Crimsonengine
      @Crimsonengine  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Sailor! Individual lenses vary, but this has been my experience too. I think the reason the L-series Zooms are so expensive is that they're quieter. The sigma Art primes are pretty good.

    I’ve been trying now for two hours to figure out how on earth to set an assignable button to switch to a certain setting such as 50 fps in slow motion mode while being in 25 fps base.
    This dosen’t seen to be possible, or am I missing something basic here? Every time I’m in 4K mode and press the assignable button to go to slow motion it goes to 100 fps and lowers the resolution to 1080p. Why can’t I tell the camera to only go to 50 fps in slow motion mode since that is the limit in 4K?

      I believe that the image on the Canon C70 is more detailed and sharp with 10-bit shooting, due to the RF bayonet, as well as due to it, you have the opportunity to get a sharp and detailed image at fully open apertures, such as 1.2 by 50 mm., which EF will not give. But the C70 doesn't have RAW yet, so With the 300 iii with its DGO, or wait until and if they "deliver" RAW to the C70.
