And Ireland gave the WORLD Diane!
Love this!!!!✌🏻💜🌼
Ah geeeez! That’s nice 🙈
And Editor Diane!!!
Whos hotter Diane or editor Diane? I gotta go with editor d for the win lol
And whisky.
1947: First commercial microwave oven by Raytheon (American).
1955: First domestic (home use) microwave oven by Tappan (American).
1961: Japan’s first microwave oven, by Sharp Corp.
And I agree with you, Diane...it's one of the greatest inventions ever! I use mine numerous times a day.
Here's your history lesson for the day.
The microwave was invented by an American.
American engineer Percy Spencer is generally credited with inventing the modern microwave oven after World War II from radar technology developed during the war. Named the "Radarange", it was first sold in 1946.
Hope that helps dear.
Have a blessed day. 🙂
Absolutely correct Japan is credited for taking the initially very large components and making them smaller making them cheaper to manufacture
Melted chocolate bar to the Americans for the win!
Ah, I was thinking Amana but they were the first to do the countertop microwave after being bought by Raytheon (Mr Spencer was with Raytheon). Amana is what I remember having for a long time.
If you were able to buy one of the first , where would you put it. You couldn't put it on the counter as it stood 6 feet tall weight over 700 pounds and costing 5 thousand dollars .
@@secolerice I have four of them---Amanas: 2 regular + 2 convection. (I go to too many garage sales) Wanna buy one?

Great list Sara!
And people who have not subscribed get these things too -- the freeloading bums! If you're reading this and haven't subscribed, do it now. It doesn't cost anything and would help Diane out a lot.
I raise a toast to that, you speak truths in this list 🍻😁
I soooo agree! You know, I absolutely adore editor Diane cameos. I would LOVE to see an episode with the roles reversed all the way through!
And Ireland gave America and major population boost
Yep. We actually have more Irish-descended people than Ireland does. I think about an eighth of the 325+ million people have Irish heritage, the most of any nationality
@@HistoryNerd808 they quietly intend world domination...
Ireland also supplied many of Canada's immigrants in the 19th century too.
God bless Ireland!
I think it's the water here. Ireland's population isn't out of control, but we got over here and there were Irish babies everywhere! (Thank goodness, or I wouldn't be here!)
You're welcome! Thanks for Guinness and Jamison!
And YES! I want to see Diane cook! Maybe a full Irish Breakfast!
I love how every American tourist is from Wisconsin 😂
You obviously don't live here.
Truth is, every American tourist is IN Wisconsin. I swear that on a summer weekend we have about 65% of the Illinois population up here.
I live in Missouri near Branson and that’s true here as well.
One thing my Irish friends are always complaining about is how "hot" it is for you when its like 70 degrees outside. I've told them for years to get an air conditioner for their apartment. Y'all need to get that to catch on!
Ireland gave us you, so we're just about even.
What vaginally flogged kiss ass, how weak, LMAO. She doesn't amount to anything in comparison to what we gave Ireland and the world.
LogicalCynic dude, he was being nice to someone. Why would you feel the need to go full incel like that?
Yeah between Diane and Qxir, I think we're falling behind
Ireland gave us a lot too. The modern tractor, submarines, flavored crisp, whiskey stills (thank you), Guinness (thank you again), color photography, tanks, transatlantic phone calls, cure for leprosy, portable defibrillator’s, and the most important thing Ireland gave us... you 🥰🍀
Have you ever noticed that with all the cooking shows in the US there’s never been a “Great Chef’s of Ireland” or “The Wonders of Irish Cooking” program?
Loved the double blink bit! Hysterical!
Props to Editor Diane for her use of the word “twaddle”!
I love it when people from outside the USA say positive things about my country! Thank you for doing so.
First common use that I know of using microwaves for cooking was on trains in the US. When they first moved into home use, the models from Amana were called "Radar-range" because the cooking properties of microwaves were discovered while they were doing work using microwaves as part of the radar system.
"hey why did my chocolate bar melt?"
I’m so proud of my country after watching this I’m crying tears of freedom!
Ashton she doesn’t have freedom sure that’s why it’s not highlighted
As far as sugar for breakfast, my mom would always allow us to have some of our leftover birthday cake for breakfast the next day because she said it was no worse than donuts and at least it wasn't fried and it had milk and eggs so it wasn't so bad right lol (I knew she was always joking about the last part, but it did always make it feel as if our birthday stretched a little longer, which was really sweet and memorable) loved this video so much, thanks for sharing 😊❤
American tourist here! I don't have a parka, but I'll have to remember to ask wide-eyed questions and say Irish words in an American accent. 😀
Weekly Cooking With Diane would be highly entertaining...
Weekly cooking with Diane would be great, but how many different things can she microwave a week? Plus, how many things would she drop? Oops
Meh... I'd rather watch her doing stuff she actually enjoys...
I don't like "beatubers" but I'd watch Diane's make up tutorials or discussions... she likes that girly stuff.
I just like seeing her laugh and smile!💚
Steven Tagawa agreed - there’s simply so much to choose from in the microwaveable frozen food section at the store, well at least here in America anyway. 😜 Thousands of things. 🤦🏻♂️
It's funny that you mention TV and movies, because it was actually a 1st generation Irish American named Eugene O'Neill who was responsible for completely changing American storytelling.
Eugene shifted the theater away from vaudeville and the melodramas that had dominated the landscape of the 1800s. Instead he was the first American playwright to use the dramatic realism that American Cinema and TV is now famous for.
To this day Eugene O'Neill is the only American writer to to win a Nobel prize for theater, and he also won like 3 pulitzers in addition to that for other works.
His posthumously released final play, "A Long Day's Journey into Night," is now largely regarded as one of the best scripts of the 20th century, and it's one of the best portraits of Irish American family dysfunction and mother/ son issues I have ever seen.
Without O'neill's push for realistic portrayals of ordinary people you would never have the right environment or acting tradition for Broadway or Hollywood to flourish the way that they have.
If you've never seen or read any of his plays then you are seriously missing out. His language and verse are on par with the quality of Oscar Wilde or Shakespeare, but instead of writing about royalty or the rich he wrote about working class people with real struggles anyone could identify with, even now 70 years after his death.
As an American may I just say
Thanks Diane, we needed that!
I'm so very proud😢🇺🇸🗽🍔🍟
Oh my god can we get you to 100k subscribers already for fecks sake!!
Preach it Casey!
AMEN... Share share share!!!!
I was thinking that all of us should go out and ask our friends and families to subscribe. I would really like to see the Editor Diane video.
Another awesome video, Diane! America gave Ireland CZcams, and without that, there would probably be no Diane Jennings channel. Without a Diane Jennings channel, the internets would be a much more boring place and I would be laughing a lot less. So thank you for taking this gift of America and turning it into something awesome!
Happy Wednesday Diane! Nothing better than to see your lovely self on here weekly sharing your thoughts and insights. Always a great day indeed. I feel grateful to Ireland for a lot of things, but even more grateful that a beautiful Irish girl like you is here on CZcams sharing your thoughts and ideas. Thanks again for gracing your many fans such as myself with your presence. Have a great rest of your week my lovely friend. Be well. 😊😎🌹🌹
🥰
"Don't want to go to a restaurant and don't want to cook for yourself". Sounds like me everyday.
7:36 - American engineer Percy Spencer invented the microwave oven after World War II from RADAR technology developed during the war, the magnetron. Legend has it he had a candy bar in his pocket which melted while he was working on a RADAR unit, causing him to experiment with cooking things, first popcorn then an egg (which promptly exploded all over someone standing too close). The resulting "Radarange" was first sold in 1946. The countertop microwave oven was first introduced in 1967 by the Amana Corporation, which was by then a subsidiary of Raytheon.
7:57 - Microwave radiation is all over the world, and has been for many years. It's not necessarily unhealthy as long as we don't get cooked by it. There is no radioactivity (nuclear material) involved, only radio waves.
Enjoyed the video as always. I remember when the modern microwave really became popular, people tried to to cook meals in them, I believe most people have resolved to just heating up leftovers, and some frozen foods designed to be microwaved. Let's not forget microwave popcorn.
Feels like this channel panders to America a lot.
[ Just joking. I'm American too and I enjoy the pandering ]
I don't think she's pandering. I think she really likes the US, and just talks about what she likes. Also, if you ever watched the try channel, their version of American food, traditions and bar games were a bit off the mark. I think she's trying to find the truth. Keep it up Dianne. The truth is out there.
America's probably 95% of her viewers.
I can’t tell you how much I loved this video.
Can’t argue with you about traditional Irish food. Have you ever wondered why there’s never been a show called “The Great Chefs of Ireland”? Yeah.
Breakfast sugar: have you ever tried an open faced butter and sugar sandwich? Thought not. The butter goes on first, then sprinkle on the sugar with a teaspoon. Need more sweet? Spread jelly or jam on another slice of bread and put the two slices together (sugar to jam).
Yes, we Americans often add sugar to cereal even if the cereal has plenty of sugar in it. (Raisin Bran, etc.) Some will even add sugar to cereals like Captain Crunch (with or without Crunchberries), Count Chocula, or Honey Nut Cheerios.
While I’m being weird about food I should mention the Miracle Whip, lettuce and peanut butter sandwich (with or without banana slices.
In the US you can get both Dunkin Doughnuts and Crispy Cream donuts delivered to your home for breakfast!!!!!!! 🤯😱🙀
Ok, I think you need to pronounce some Irish names for us in a video including you name.
Thanks. You are a bright Light on the Internet!
I just learned a new and great word. "Twaddle" Thanks! :) Great vid as always.
Thanks Diane lots of fun! You are amazing
love your videos, especially the america ones, always a hoot to watch, keep up the great work!!!
Red sol cup tid bit, the different markings are for levels of whisky, wine and beer
I am happy to see anything you want to post. Always so up beat and entertaining.
You're awesome! Thanks for the videos I'm glad your still making shows it's something that helps me after a long long day of driving my semi. Your videos are almost always entertaining, and help me unwind after dealing with crazy drivers all day so thank you very much.
Bumped into this channel learning Gaelic. Great videos and enjoy learning how others view the American culture and people. Fun and great narratives. Thank you DI-ANE. I love Ire...Land. 👍🏻
Your warnings are hysterical!
Oh my god that was really awesome I love the things you said between 2:32 the entire No.8 it fun to hear say those things it so awesome listening to you. Very cool video I love this 👏❤️
Potato bread/potato farls - I discovered a few years ago that they’re actually quite easy to make, just left over mashed potatoes with a little flour thrown in, which explains why they were such a staple in Ireland. And I’m guessing your USA viewers would be fascinated.
I have a friend that came over from Ireland on a J1 back in the 80’s and he’s still here... 😳
No splinters for me!
Ten Terrible Things would make a fantastic video. Having watched you for a while, I know your list would have lots of funny opinions on it. (Plus, it's always nice to know what the rest of the world blames us for😉).
Thanks for the Wednesday video, it was a nice surprise to come home to.💚☘🇮🇪💚
♥️☘ You're too cute, Diane! And you're right about us tourists. When I was in Ireland this past June, we were everywhere! In my group alone there were 43 of us. I had soooooo much fun, loved the food, the booze and spent more on souvenirs than I have anywhere. 🤪☘ Hope to come back to Ireland soon, but I'll have to get out of debt first.
We don't think of it as "sugar for breakfast" .it's just "breakfast" (that we don't have to gag down!.) It's hard to knock maple syrup flavored bacon...it improves the bacon, the pancakes it's served with, it also makes you crave milk and orange juice. Talk about wholesome and nutritious! 🤗
😋
The fact that Diane is infatuated with red Solo cups is the most innocently pure thing that makes me grin in ear-to-ear. It's like being in high school and college all over again! :D :D :D
great fun to watch, thanks-----------from New Jersey USA
The drive thru has changed my life Diane. Thank you for bringing attention to this great invention.
I go to places that have drive thrus but I always go inside.
Editor Diane, I liked all the clips and effects you added to the episode.
I started looking up Irish actors. Holy crap you guys gave the world some amazing talent.
The solo cup fascination still surprises me. Back in high school we never thought anything of them except that's just what we needed to do get if we had kegs or were having a hairy buffalo. They were just cups.
I cant say it enough how much I enjoy your videos.
Thaaaanks!
When I lived in Germany in the 80s.. you couldn't get a to go cup of Coffee any where... That drove me nuts..
Love you! Love Chewy! Love Paul! Can't wait till Friday!!
Thanks for the smiles
I really love this videos!!
Love your vids!!
“London ripped off my whole pockets.” Is the best phrase I’ve heard in a long time. 😂
Loved this one
My Mum loved, loved the microwave, haha, thanks for the laughs and the found memories.
One of the things I like best about your channel is the various ten best /ten worst lists. Always interesting, funny, and thoughtful in nature! Give Chewy a pat on the head for me!! 😊👍
Recently I watched the Irish tv show “RAW” and it was quite nice 👍 thanks for the cool video Di-Yane lol 😂
Your videos are always entertaining. you’re a lovely girl. Cheers!
Goodness.. glad I already subscribed
Ideas for things to cook:
-Colcannon
-Soda bread
-Oatcake
-Boxty
-Champ aka poundies
-Barmbrack
-any other ways Diane happens to like potatoes cooked
I got on as soon as I could be not quick enough, but still Diane it was worth.
The best thing that Ireland has given me is editor Diane. She makes the star of this show look impeccable!👏
Ahhh, Once is such a great film-and soundtrack! Thank you Ireland (and Glen Hansard).
"I don't want to get into politics or religion, because God knows...." The irony made me laugh.
And I like it when you geek out like you did at 3:00, Diane.
So on the ball jason! 👍🏻
@@DianeJennings I do what I can. ☺
I adore when Diane feels out...I usually learn something cool. 💚
Very fun video!
I cracked up over your comment about Dunkin Donuts for breakfast, ...it is sooooo true. We call them "gut bombs", and we love them!
Your American impressions are fantastic.
Your so funny. Love watching your videos. Thank you Ireland
Speaking of Microwaves, during the late sixties on game shows like "The Price is Right" and "Lets Make A Deal" one of the Big and expensive prizes you could win was what they called "The Radar Range" . It was a precursor to the Microwave and cost like $3,000 bucks or something like that and it was huge and only expensive restaurants had them.
I really like your view on communication and agree with you
Such an super good video, we have a lot in common and I love you lot more now 👏
"aspirational, commercialed drones" - haha, you are so funny and charming! Wish I could visit Ireland
'
Can’t wait to be that American tourist here very soon we’ll soonish! January 10th needs to happen like now.
I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.
Kevin Denning I’m very excited and thank you so much!
you are awesome Diane, you are funny!
As a child, my Irish grandmother fed me the worst food I could possibly eat. When I went to Ireland, I was thrilled to find fast food in any format. I also didn't know that pubs had food, I thought they were just for drinking.
Great list. Nice touch at the end playing the anthem. (Yes the microwave oven was invented in the USA, by an engineer whose chocolate bar melted in his pocket while he was repairing a microwave communication tower.)
Thank God I’m subscribed!
That's pretty great list! We're either innovative or lazy here in the States...but either way you're welcome! Also that's a pretty good rendition of an American accent ya got there👍 Another great video Diane! *said in one syllable form*
Okay, several potato ideas: and my first is (and you can use your microwave) a baked potato covered in butter, cheese and real bacon (bits).
My mom has an awesome potato soup recipe and you have to have cornbread with it.
Up next is just simple real mashed potatoes. Make a lot because a secondary dish derives from leftover mashed taters (yes, I'm country boy) and that is...
Tater cakes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Tater cakes just cannot be beat.
You can also try fried potatoes. Be sure to add lots of ketchup.
Great video.
Oh you make me laugh so much!!
Great vid! Great list, too.Fast food, microwave ovens, waffles with syrup(or jam, love them with jam).Have you tried Captain Crunch? The ultimate:sweet AND so crunchy it's like dermabrasion for the mouth.A must-have,red white and blue American experience! I'm curious to hear your list of not-so-great things America has given to the Irish;I'm not one of those Uber American nationalists who thinks everything the US of A is beyond reproach.Your blog really is a pleasure to watch,I enjoy your enthusiasm and your humor,so I too would like to thank Ireland for you.Take good care!
So-o-o-o-o-o, another good video from Diane.
We gave Yall the traffic circle/ round about, gotta love them.
Another “cooking” video!!! Yea! And good luck on the move.
That’s why I watch you , you keep it fun and weird
I recall hearing about this drive through bar where you could order a mixed drink like gin n tonic, or a whiskey on the rocks. It was somewhere in Wyoming back in the 1980s. Still cool to think about.
Ireland gave us Diane Jennings, which is a good thing, oh, and Editor Diane. Also, I have found out about Irish tv because of you, Try and Fact. Got me interested and found Jack Taylor and now I am watching Red Rock. Try Texas Kolaches or Tacos for breakfast, oh, yea.
Here in the US on August 14, we thank Saint Willis Carrier, who gave us air conditioning. Isn’t he a saint in Ireland too? And obviously the best thing Ireland gave the US is Irish people, of which we have 35 million. And they’re all delightful.
One thing many people do not realize about the red solo cup, the ridges around the cups have secret meanings. If you fill the cup to the bottom ridge, it is the equivalent to a shot of whiskey. If you fill the cup to the next line, it is the equivalent to a glass of wine. The top line is where you fill the cup with one serving of beer. Those measurements of those liquids all contain approximately the same amount of alcohol, so you can more easily calculate your personal level of intoxication. See? You just learned something new.
I did James!
I would love to see you do a cooking video!!
tbh i can't believe this channel hasn't blown up yet 🤪🥰🧐
COOKING VIDEO! COOKING VIDEO! COOKING VIDEO!
You have to do mashed potatoes (roasted garlic mashed potatoes are even better, and almost no more work!), and loaded potato skins with bacon and cheddar and green onions and sour cream, and potatoes au gratin aka scalloped potatoes, and roasted new potatoes swimming in butter, and french fries (frozen and put in the oven, if you must!)
AND YOU MUST BRING PAUL OVER to help eat them. And maybe Shannon. And maybe Harker. POTATO PARTY IN IRELAND! You are allowed to make vodka cocktails to complete the theme,
Editor Diane said twaddle! XD Aaahh! I love the accent!
Also, I don't know if I would call donuts a breakfast food. Maybe some people would but I see that more as a sweet snack or a dessert. Have you tried the glazed Krispie Kreme donuts? Those are soooo good!
On a smaller scale for me personally, you gave me U2! It got me through Army training in 1988, I literally Wore Out the Boy, War, Joshua Tree and Unforgettable Fire cassette tapes!--(Yes..Tapes) lol. I seem to have a natural affinity for Irish food and drink. My favorite beer is Smithwicks Irish Red Ale. I can get it locally here in Arizona. I also discovered Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese at our local Costco..Wow, soo good!
What would I give Ireland? Cheetos Cheddar Jalapeno (Almost like a crunchy cheese finger) snacks. Soo addictive!! If I could do it, I would open an In-N-Out Burger in Dublin..lol
We actually do or did have drive through funerals!!!!! There were several in Phoenix, Arizona.
And there's that drive through bar in Florida... (I kid you not)
@@marycasanova8905 The only reason that is dangerous is because people don;t learn how to drive when they are drunk!
People drive by to see the corpse in a window? That's disturbing...and hilarious.
@@mouseshadow5828 Basically ....... That's Arizona!!!!
Recent subscriber to your channel so keep it up , lovin’ it! And yes, you were right, the microwave oven that is most common today is typically credited to an American engineer in World war 2 with the Radarange or something like that, was one of the first commercially sold brand. Now all I need is the shooting star graphic followed by the jingle of “The More You Know”
Thankee!
Oh Diane, I have a funny microwave story. I was 4 or 5 and we were stationed in Puerto Rico as my parents were in the Navy. My mom's parents came for a visit and presented us with our first microwave. One afternoon, my mom, grandma and sister went shopping leaving "the boys" alone. I was playing in the living room when all of a sudden I heard BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG! Then BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG! I thought gunfire was going off in the house! When I came out from behind the couch, I discovered my Grandfather and Father dazed in the kitchen wondering how to clean up the mess they had made in the microwave. They had tried to cook eggs, not knowing you have to prick them with a pin so they don't blow up. To this day, my mom is wary of letting my father use a microwave on his own...
So sweet, funny and sadly true about us Americans. Great job as always Diane, and I can't wait for Friday. Say Hi to the cutest dog in all of Ireland mr. Chewy (still not sure how to spell his name). Thanks for sharing.
Sadly true?
Great list! I'm keen to hear what are the terrible things that America gave Ireland.
I also like potatoes. They're versatile. I think that could be another list in and of itself.
