  • Today I'm exploring the best Irish pubs in Milwaukee Wisconsin! Will be drink Wisconsibly?? As an Irish girl visiting the USA, I’m always on the lookout for the best Irish pubs in America. In this video, I’ll be visiting some of the top-rated Irish pubs in Milwaukee, sampling their Irish welcome, and, of course, trying a pint of Guinness at each one. I'll be rating the authenticity of each pub compared to those back in Ireland and sharing my thoughts on the quality of the Guinness and the craic (fun and atmosphere). Who will win the title of the most authentic Irish pub in Milwaukee? Watch to find out!

Hey I’m moving to New Orleans in the fall after we re elect my old childhood Irish boss, good ol Joe Biden, and save the world again, why not come visit there? I’m moving to Bob Dylan’s old house in uptown. Spooky cool vibes! Your vids make me cheesy when tensed up over the possibility of the orange menace destroying the world and I’d so love to meetcha and hear more about Dublin accents. I had summer roommates in NYC from Trinity college back when I was at Columbia and they told me that the reason that no American could understand Finnegan’s Wake was because Dublin has so many dialects and that book jumped around using so many and that’s why it left my head just spinning. :)

We want to see everything Wisconsin related you have haha. I think it would be cool to do an overall reaction to what you experienced in the state. Maybe what your expectations were, and what actually happened. If you ever get the time in the future, I would highly recommend visiting cities like Madison, Green Bay, and LaCrosse. Each city has completely different landscape, completely different architecture, and completely different cultural vibes. Green Bay is all about the Green Bay Packers. With Madison it is a huge college campus city that has beautiful nature, and a hip/innovative vibe to it. In LaCrosse it is also a college city, but much smaller, and the types of scenery/nature that you will see here is completely different from any other area of the state.

Hi Diane! One of my aunts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was from Wisconsin. Of course, it's a totally different climate from Baton Rouge. I remember we were watching the Packers play on TV and it was was snowing in Greenbay. The temperature was about 20° but the stadium was packed anyway. I remarked that I couldn't believe people would go sit outside in that kind of weather. She said something like, "Honey, if we didn't go out because it's cold, we'd stay inside half the year."😊

Born in Milwaukee, raised in suburbs. Always said I was German and Swiss. Never got the whole Irish thing that everyone claimed to be. I figured even my mom was just "appropriating" Irishness. Then I had my DNA studied and it turned out I'm 42% from Great Britain and Ireland. 21% Scandinavian etc. A Viking perhaps. Anyway, I have always loved Irish Bars and fare, and there are just so many more that you could have visited. Love Dark Beers and Guinness is my go to. Love the stout. Maybe you can stop back, again and again.

I had a great aunt in Milwaukee we would stay with from time to time when I was a child - I was always amazed at seeing a tavern on EACH and EVERY corner (not just every OTHER corner). My Grand Dad drank Blatz Beer (Milwaukee brewed) and you can't get it anymore - when Marlon Brando and gang drank Blatz Beer exclusively in the film THE WILD ONE (1953), you know it was an important brand. No trip to Wis. is complete without a visit to a local Creamery, where you can buy Cheese Curds (or Squeaky Cheese) - the fresher the squeakier.

I lived on the east side of Milwaukee in the 70’s loved it. I don’t know if the Hagertys bars are still around, like Joe Hagertys, on Clybourn, or Darie Hagerty’s on Bluemound (brothers) and an uncle, Bill Hagerty’s on Well’s street. They were all a lot of fun. I met Al Mcguirer, Rick Magerous and all the 1977 NCAA championship players from Marquette University. We had a lot of memorable times.

Let us see more of Milwaukee, especially the cheese shop. When I was young and living in Chicago we had property on a lake near Lake Geneva. Every trip we would always stop in a cheese shop by the border and, by the very mention of the cheese shop, reminds me of the odor of that shop. That combination of sausage and cheese odors that filled the air of the shop. So, yes, show us the cheese shop. I don't know if they have any here in western North Carolina.

My favorite Irish Pub (now closed) Would clean the taps everyday before opening. Their Guinness was always good. I compare other Irish pubs or establishments on their Guinness and I can definitely tell if their pour was good or not even though I didn't actually see them pour. Based on my lost love of a pub. Sean the owner is a CAD and the old guy at the bar went by the name 'Beano'. I recently told of the story of a day I arrived and saw bar dice in the parking lot. Picked the up and walked in but it was strangely quiet. Everyone was looking at me. One of the guys asked what the roll was. I told them and the pub exploded in laughter! Sean was losing at bar dice and threw the dice out the door saying they never did him any good and said they can stay out there until they started to role nice and let him win. Well he lost again and everyone was giving him crap. Of course he played it off like this was the greatest insult an handful of dice gave anyone. Laughing the whole time.

You got this commentary absolutely right on all three of these places in one of the U.S.'s great Great Lakes Irish-heavy cities. Two of the three places you visited are in my former neighborhood of Washington Heights, which is where many of the Irish Americans in Milwaukee relocated after many left the Third Ward (just east across the river from the train station you show in your Culver's video) in the mid twentieth century, along with our near neighbors in Wauwatosa, with the center of Celtic gravity being St. Sebastian's Catholic church on 54th St and Washington Boulelvard. Loved seeing you walk for a bit through my neighborhood before you realized you had no wifi. Have also had trouble figuring out where to catch the Amtrak at Union Station in Chicago. I currently live in Walker's Point, which is the neighborhood immediately south of the Third Ward, which is where the public market is (I walk through threre on my way and back to work downtown). Any and all Milwaukee content you have filmed will be appreciated. Your sense of humor and your appreciation for other people is infectious, so thank you for that.

Back in the Day….each neighborhood had local bars. Sometimes even more than one watering hole. The neighborhoods of the past tended to be very ethnic so these bars used to be based centered around an ethnic heritage.
Over time many of those small bars somewhat faded away. There still plenty of ethnic bars. St. Patrick’s day remains a very big thing in Milwaukee.
There is one Milwaukee bar that is very distinctive. It’s called the Safe House. Founded in 1966 it is a Spy centered place. It’s even has its own Wikipedia page. Even getting into the place you have to try & give the “Secret password”. No one is ever turned away.

I think it is fantastic that you visited my "Home State" if you will. I've only been to the County Clare and had a great time there. Was there on a Saturday after a Wedding across the street and then again for Breakfast the next day. Had the Corned Beef Benedict and it was amazing. Also the Bartender on Saturday was from Dublin, which part of my Family is from and the other side is from Cork.

Fun fact about County Clare Inn, they have a sister Inn over in the real County Clare and there is a travel package where you can visit both places.
I went there before the pub opened once and it was very beautiful, would love to sit down and try the food!

Milwaukee is my hometown, and I grew up just a few miles away from the first two pubs. I'd love to see more Milwaukee and Wisconsin videos. It was crazy to see you walking through the neighborhoods that look just like mine did!

Since you have followers In probably every US city you’d visit (as well as other countries), maybe take a local along with you to see if they find the hidden gems every city has wether food or pub. Keep coming over! There’s a lot to see!

As always a great fun video and a premiere too. Got to Love it. I'll be honest if you shot it I want to see it even if it's a bit cheesy or brewery. Hope you and the girls and Chewie have fun. As a woman I'm vaguely acquainted says Good Craic must be had.

Diane, You are correct about the mother's letter being just a funny thing. There are variations of that letter in different regions of the country. I first saw it in Appalachia, where I grew up, many years ago. Now I live not so far away from where you've visited on this trip. Glad that you had fun. Keep being you! 🙂

At 5:24 some places do have limited calling and wifi depending on antenna location. Good thing is sat phone is going to more newer phones as a backup when cell phone service and wifi goes out. I would like to see some of the extra footage in the future.

I've never actually been to an Irish Pub, I don't even think we have one near here, though my town has exploded in the last 5 years, so I probably ought to check and see. And despite the secondhand anxiety from knowing you were running around without a working phone, we'd love to watch more of your day in Milwaukee!

Happy Friday to you Diane. I’ve read that there is an Irish pub in Boise, Idaho called Bad Irish, where the barmaid that serves customers wears a Catholic school girls outfit. That is an interesting idea for a Pub 😂.
