First class work, as I've come to expect. If (when...) that gearbox on the deck starts leaking, you can use corn head grease in it instead of gear oil. Tractor Supply should have it. It's a light grease that get's very fluid when up to operating temp but thick enough not to leak so much.

Great job young man, you’re getting to enjoy the fruits of your labor. That’s kind of why old guys always yell to the kids to get off their grass, a lot of hard work goes into a project whether mowing a yard all nice or fixing a lawnmower like you did. You have really good patience and whoever taught you, was worth their weight in gold. If you’re self taught by tinkering, congratulations. You’re mechanically brilliant. Good video series. 👍

Another brilliant resurrection. That certainly is one robust machine. I love how you can take off an old part like that hydraulic cylinder, disassemble it, and rebuild it with new parts and have it as good as new. Because back in the day you got real quality. Try that with the tin can and plastic junk made today. You used to buy a machine and it was built like a tank. Now you get something that has Bluetooth and a cup holder for your soy latte but falls apart in a strong wind. Sad. I am also fascinated by the collection of tools you have for your projects. And the ones you craft yourself. Very interesting. I always enjoy your great videos and look forward to the next monstrosity that needs your help. I vote that you do decide to paint this treasure. Something this impressive deserves to look good too.

Enjoyed watching this video! I’m 68 yr old welder / fabricator. Owned and operated my welding business repair many mower deck and bush hog decks. Worst enemy to a deck is not removing cuttings from the top of the deck. The cuttings left will cause a chemical reaction and literally start eating the metal. Why didn’t I say causes rust it is in a sense it is caustic rusting. Looks like you have a mowing “Beast”! Good to see the ole girl doing her job!

Some basic maintenance would have kept it in service many more years but I guess it's easy to give up on something that a company or municipality is okay with just replacing! Too bad about your dog. We have a 140 pound Rottweiler that tore his acl while playing one day last year. Never heard such a yelp from the dog. He was in serious pain so we took him to an emergency vet clinic that night. They put him on pain killers and a no movement protocol except to do his business until they could do the surgical repair. It was not cheap...about $ 6,000. That's here in MD, you may find better pricing where you are. I would advise not to wait too long before getting it repaired. All that stress on the other leg can cause it to happen again. Once they do surgery she'll be in the cone of shame for a while and be restricted to very little movement until she starts to heal. Plan on at least a month of recovery!!

Just like you said I'd paint back green again why not right. After all that's what the original color of it was to begin with. I think it was Forest Green.,or emerald Green.,or Hunter Green we're the paint color codes that was used on those green lawnmowers back then. Cause A lot of them was sprayed powder coated and sprayed clear coat and sealer. I've seen them being sprayed with mixed green powder coating with metallic flakes. In both of the paint and the clear coating sealer together. As the new paint jobs on them. I think it was like Three of them was repainted differently colors though. Two different green ones and one yellow.,or orange colored one to with metallic flakes.

The amount of videos on CZcams that involves a blown up excavator or skid steer and then they cry on about how much a new or rebuilt engines going to cost them and then you have others who simply go to an old scrap yard and pull 1 of these old piles of junk out the weeds that is a 3 cylinder yanmar or a 4bt or some other ideal diesel engine that just fires up and run perfectly after sitting for 20 years and only cost them a max of $500. It's like those heaters that everyones going all in on. I used to go to junk yards years ago and buy 5 or 10 of these "Night heaters" from junked or crashed Heavy goods vehicles as they were installed in most over night lorry cabs. I'd pick them up for $75 a piece and sell them on for up to $250 a piece. .

It is beyond me what people throw away sometimes. Even if the mower was complete junk, you just shouldn't be throwing away a good running diesel engine.
Good for you giving it a new lease on life.

Well donel I don't understand why some owners don't do the proper maintenance which would allow these machines be handed down to generations. You did an excellent job.

Sorry about your dog tearing her ACL.
We had the same problem with a large dog years ago. Vet wanted mega bucks for surgery and gave us a poor prognosis particularly due to the fact that she was a large dog. Apparently those Surgical outcomes are better with smaller dogs.
Obviously in pain/ discomfort or they would not be limping. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Fortunately after several months our dog stopped limping. She adapted to it quite well and lived for several years only to develop discoid lupus which eventually led to putting her down. Sweet dog.

    Awesome technical restoration 👍
It looks like it was a really well made and expensive machine when it was made.
I really liked the tricks you showed in the hydraulic section like that wooden hydraulic ram clamp and using the thin drink can metal guide to get that that seal in.👍

If you’re drilling and taping into an area that needs to be clean put grease on the bits to capture the metal shavings

I had a Pitbull for fourteen years before he passed, best dog I’ve ever had. He had the same injury and if he was running hard it didn’t seem to bother him but just moseying around he would lift it. That lasted about three years and he finally recovered from it. But I’m missing a leg so I had no mercy on him because he had three. Yes it took about three years, I think when he ran he would aggravate it. Good luck with yours, it’s hard to find that special dog.

Nice job on the Mower, I have noticed on several Channels that when people replace / Fit new or just Grease the Grease Fittings they seem to Over fill which leaves a big Blob of Grease exposed which will attract Dirt etc, maybe they should wipe it away to prevent Clogging or Dirt attraction.

Bonne continuation.
