The best way to honor your really great dog, is to give a good home to another really great dog.
Yes, but do it when you're ready. I had a friend who lost her ❤ dog & was really grieving. She quickly adopted another dog & after a month, almost took her back because she wasn't ready for someone new. Quite a few of us talked her through that tough time & she kept the dog. It's all better now, and she loves her new girl, but still misses her boy.
I adopted two children in the 1970s. The procedure I went through to adopt a dog in 2008 was far more intensive than for my children. I lost my doggie last year…she was 18. Just adopted another pooch..privately…he’s older, but then, so am I. We can be geriatric together. If everyone would adopt, there wouldn’t be any strays.
I am older also and intend to adopt older from now on. I would love puppies but there comes a time.

I just kept smiling through this video. I trap, spay and neuter cats, and re-home them. I love dogs, but as a senior I know cats are better suited for me. So glad you adopted Belle. She will be so good for you, as you will be for her. A true win win for you both.
older dogs are so overlooked but they are wonderful for people like myself that are also not younger and they suit my quieter lifestyle. Enjoy your many years with your lovely little pooch.
Which is why adoption is a joke
The threes rules…..3 days to decompress; 3 weeks to relax and establish a routine; and 3 months to fully be comfortable in her new situation. Congratulations!
I'll bet you've worked in a shelter or rescue!! We say those words all of the time to get adopters to understand dogs take time to adjust!!!!!!

Doggie suffered a loss of loved ones, her humans. You suffered a loss, your beloved dog. So you both now found new love, and can live together overcoming the pain of a loss.
So sad that an elderly lady who is dying had to leave her 2 dogs at a shelter! That would kill me! I’m glad you gave her a home! It sounds like it worked out for both of you! ❤️🐶
The similarities to Lilly aren't because you were trying to replace her, they were simply a sign that Georgie was meant to be yours. I truly believe our animals are chosen for us and find a way to be with us. Congrats on your "new" baby.

Me and my boyfriend (had been living together for 5 years at that time) tried to adopt and not shop, but the shelter told us we weren't married, and because we were considered a young couple (under 30), they said it was too high risk we were going to break up in the future...
We still want to adopt in the future, now when we both are 30+. All dogs deserve a loving home and I'm so happy more people are adopting from shelters and not shopping.
My precious little Lucy hugs me with her head and neck. She's a 6Lb chihuahua who was given to me when I was going through a divorce after 30 years. She was born on my birthday in 2016 and is an angel in a dogs body. God used her to revive my will to live and restore my soul.
I now have 2 more chihuahuas and they are so precious!
Chihuahua’s are great dogs. I grew up many years ago with a chihuahua and a Kerry blue terrier . The Kerry blue terrier was older and eventually lost its hearing and couldn’t see very well .. Frito, our Chihuahua, become our Kerry blue’s seeing eye dog and would wake Tara, the Kerry blue, up to go bark at the door and kept Tara able to navigate outside and in the house . It was a beautiful relationship between the 2 .. I miss them both as my youth was very difficult and they made it easier to survive
I lost my dog to CHF in August.. he was 16. he was a shelter dog. I dopted him when he was 6 months ...the pain was real. I was devistated...I decided to adopt again and I went on pet finder because I needed a new friend. He was a foster. He such a great dog. Sometimes you need a new buddy..thats his name btw. I'll never get over Eddy but my new dogs helps alot. I needed something to love again.
PS: she’s going to have a GREAT life with you as an “only” pet who will get tons of attention and live in a quiet home with travel adventures galore. Thank you for adopting a shelter dog- she’s a sweetie!!❤
This is extremely heartwarming to see. I'm fostering two chihuahuas right now that when I sniff my nose, both of them jump. They are absolutely terrified of everything - hide in corners, run to the back of a crate. They were part of a hoarding and breeding case. Adopt DON'T Shop! Thank you!
We have a chi weenie named Princess who looks very much like Belle. We adopted her from Operation Kindness in 2014. Someone had dumped two puppies into a dumpster and left the mama running around the outside. A volunteer with Operation Kindness just happened to see the mother dog and was able to rescue the puppies. When they were ready to be adopted OK posted them on their website and my husband saw it and called me at work and said he had found our new puppy. She has been a joy.
You are such a good parent. Lots of walks, healthy food, lots of affirmations and affection. Perfection!

If you are looking for a specific age / size / breed… just be patient and keep looking at the shelters and rescues daily! Your perfect match will be there eventually. Adopted dogs are the most grateful creatures ❤

Okay, one more thought. How lucky is that sweet baby to have found such a loving home with you as her mama. ❤️
Been a shelter volunteer. There were many times when an older lady would come in with her daughter to find a dog to replace one that had passed, same with cats. They would tell me the family would push them and I always told them that they would know when they're ready. Georgie (Bella) had traumas but you gave her a chance to adjust and it looks like it worked out great. We always try to match personalities between the pet and the adopter and you typify that match, enjoy each other!
Thank you for sharing ❤she’s been through so much. It had to be really hard for her to lose her “elderly mom”-thank you for taking her in. Praying for you and her and her previous “mom”. Can’t imagine being older and knowing you are dying and have no one to take care of your dogs…

Georgie looks so much like our Charlie we adopted from a no kill shelter. He was such a cuddle bug and much loved. Here's to many cuddles with your new furbaby.

As a previous chihuahua breeder I am confident that her initial screeching at being picked up, is not necessarily a sign of abuse, but more a sign of being nervous of new people. So unless she has other signs that you haven't mentioned, it may be just that.
It's so wonderful that she has a good and permanent home now!
I've lost my Sonny 2 yrs ago..adopting is the only way to go..but will never change to fill my heart from losing Sonny .

Congratulations on the new addition to your life, i'm a foster parent and I have a foster dog who does the same screaming thing even when I'm not touching him just trying to put a harness on him, took him to the vet to make sure he didn't have an medical issue's, just behavioral also discover he's epileptic, seizures brought on by sunshine he's on meds now and no more seizures yeah.

I’m so happy for you. I recently lost one of my chihuahuas on Easter Sunday. It’s devastating and while we cannot replace our beloved dogs, it’s a tribute of our love for them when we share ourselves with another deserving pup! Missed your videos and IG posts and hope you’re doing well.
I adopted my Chihuahua from my local shelter in 2020 , I had lost my Pomeranian of 15 years in 2019, I love my Chihuahua to the moon and back she is always by my side does not like me out of her sight took to me right away .

When my calico Fifi died I was unconsolable. But then I found myself looking on pet finder every now and then. And of course I gravitated towards calicos. About 10 months after Fifi died, I adopted Coco...another calico. and she's never going to be Fifi, but she's just as sweet and loveable as Fifi was. I think Fifi would be pleased, as will Lilly be pleased. They'd never want us feeling alone.
I rescued a "cocker-weinie" almost 12 years ago. His favorite place to sit is on the back of the sofa so that he can guard his property! Georgie is adorable and will bring you so much joy!

OMG!!! I’m crying before I even watch this video! She’s beautiful! I love her! I feel the same way about getting another one after my Daisy died in January. She was 16 & was my heart! Georgie was meant to be your new baby! Bell being her name when that was Lily’s middle name is a definite sign & her being good for an RV is definitely another sign! My Daisy was a chihuahua. I love them! My niece wanted a chihuahua when we got a dog & I wasn’t crazy about chihuahuas but love them now after having sweet Daisy! I decided that I’m going to rescue senior chihuahuas when I’m ready but not ready yet! A friend rescues chihuahuas. He doesn’t know their names so he names them old lady names. He has Sadie, Gertrude, Hazel, Peggy & Sally. They are all so cute & none of them look alike! I am so happy for you & Georgie! Love her name! You just hit the dog Mommy lottery Georgie! ❤

She looks so much like my chiwini Sisu. Sisu had a lot of trauma before me. I’ve had her since 2016 and she’s a total LOVE!!! Georgie reminds me so much of Sisu! Sisu loves to lay in the sun!! Congratulations 🥰❤️❤️🩹
Rescues can be challenging but if you have patience they are the best. My mom had a sweet cat and when she died he became my baby. There was no way in hell I would take him to the shelter...he was a part of my mom. Selfish families make me sick almost as much as breeders. Bless you for giving this sweet girl a second chance and sharing your story. All my babies are rescues and they are wonderful! 😻😻😻

Such a cute dog. This is not meant to sound insensitive but lost my perfect 5 year old dog a month ago and was torn apart purchased a new puppy the very next day. Still miss her dearly but so so much better to have another to get through the pain

I have two dogs pound dogs, both small breeds. Both were abused, one found wondering the streets of a nearby town, the other out in the country in the middle of nowhere. One dropped off and nearly starved to death it is a dog like yours accept Jack Russel mix. He was a chewer, with furniture, shoes, clothes, took a lot of work praise and watching him to teach him to chew only chew toys. Success though. He was definitely beat on. Now not hand shy and now trust us. The other was kicked by a man most likely a lot, with black shoes and socks on. First time my husband walked by him in black socks he freaked totally out. Yelping and crying and trying to curl within himself. At first, we did not get the connection. Until I put on black socks and shoes then he was freaking out with me. So, it was a process, but we can wear black socks and shoes now and others around him. He is fine. I had to lay black socks near him while petting him, do that for a while, then advanced to putting one on my hand, petting him with it, so forth. Great dogs both house broke in one week, and stopped chewing one within a week the other took two weeks because he'd try to sneak. I found in getting shelter dogs throughout my lifetime is two weeks spend with them, and if not home put in their cage bed, if out they are with you, you watch them and even when you cook or shower either cage or with you. What I mean by with you is your watching them or leash them. Usually takes less than a week to house break them. It is all about praise, chewing too but a strong chewer maybe two weeks. I love my shelter dogs, very smart and loving. As soon as let of cage take outside on leash, my dog love their cages and well go in just for alone nap time on their own. When we go to bed we say night, night and they run to their cages. One will go to bed by himself if we stay up late. I had to put my 16 yr old dog down and it took about 8mths to get another one. Best thing I did. Took friend to look and when I saw this Jack/chi mix so thin still, and he just cuddled right up to me. Had to get him. Both are very social great with children, even babies, are good with other dogs. I been real blessed by these beasts. Love them. I share because shelter dogs are great, make sure it is a good match.
All of my dogs were adopted, either from the pound, off the streets, or given to me. They are the best!
She is just beautiful!! What a sweetie! It hurts to lose our precious fur babies, but it is such a good healing experience to open your heart to give another deserving doggy a good home. All of my pets have been rescues, and l am always so happy to hear when someone adopts and can provide a loving home for them. They bring so much love and joy to our lives and l know you two will have great times together. 🐾💕😊

I was planning on adopting a dog. When I found a whole group of little dogs recently rescued I felt confident I could find one good for me - until I read the adopting agency’s “fine print”. There I found the clause about leaving a $200 deposit. No problem - until I read further that if the agency decided the dog I wanted was not a good match then they were going to keep my $200 and pick out the dog THEY chose for me. If I accepted…fine. if not, the deposit was non-refundable. Several hours later I found my beloved Yorkipoo at a small family pet store. While I appreciate their work and care for their charges that policy was absurd and hindered, not encouraged, adoptions.
My dog died at four months old, it’s tough and I’m glad that you found ways to cope with emotions

Yes, you are right they slowly come out of their shell, then every year they grow and grow, and get more sassy and comfortable! The first few weeks are all about safety.

Australian Shepherd and Schnauzer mix. She was a purchase puppy from a local breeder I used to work with. I actually chose one of Her brothers, but She won me over with the head hugging.🥰
