This is a song about the BIGGEST steam locomotive in the world that ran on the Union Pacific Railroad line. The 'Big Boys' were used on the Overland Route on long continuous climbs at the summit of Sherman and west of Green River through the Wasatch range. They were first called the "titans of the Wasatch," but quickly adopted the name 'Big Boy.'

The Altar Billies are a trio from Orange County California fronted by guitarist/vocalist Michael W Stand. Rounding out the group are Johnny X on upright and Chuck Cummings on Drums. The group covers many classics hits, as well as newly penned originals. Altar Billies are one of many groups that are taking a "liking" to a new and rapidly growing alt country/rockabilly/ psychobilly trend (Punktry as they like to call it).
The group has been playing all over Southern California for about 7 years. They perform for a large variety of audiences both young and old. Altar billies have played at such venues as the Orange County Fair, Orange Street Fair, Silverado Canyon concert series, as well as many clubs in the OC area. It was not special permission. You could whistle all of them or blow the horn on the diesels, except for Pacific 5021. you cannot whistle it it’s loud. Even the diesel that replaced 4014. They’re really loud, but there are other not loud ones

I have a family member who received the Golden Spike Award Posthumously....43 years of UP RR Dedicated runs from North Platte Nebraska to Cheyenne Wyoming..now he has a memorial in the GOLDEN SPIKE Museum at Bailey Yard North Platte Nebraska! .. William "Bill" Riley Sr. UPRR Locomotive Engineer! Caught that Long Black Train up to Heaven Above! Blow the Whistle

Great sing &great tribute to Big Boy 4014 which runs excursions now with UP 844 & Challenger 3985 giving the Union Pacific triple steam power for excursion trains. Big Boy 4014’s brother 4012 is at Steamtown in Scranton,Pennsylvania and it’s brother 4004 is on display y in a park in Cheyenne.

Yes, it was filmed a few days before union pacific took possession of it. We were invited to play in Ogden for the return of 4014 in May of 2019. I don't think we will ever get the chance to play on the "deck" again, that was a one time deal.

Actually, PRR S1 class 6-4-4-6 was 140ft rendering it the biggest non turbine steam locomotive. The biggest turbine was the C&O M-1 class at 173ft
The certainly is a debate about which locomotive is bigger - for now it appears Big Boy wins.
