      hey, nacho! I'm just starting out with painting mice and am wondering what paint to use. I noticed that you typically use/recommend Montana, why is this? also have you ever used rust-oleum paints? For the EC2-A White, it only has one screw underneath the hind mouse skate. After removing that, you can take the top shell off of the bottom shell (top shell is the white part; bottom shell is the bottom part) by prying on the back with your nail or something similar.

      gloss will work if you use like a 2k automotive clearcoat instead of a regular spray enamel, but keep in mind you NEED a good respirator to work with that stuff because it is EXCEEDINGLY nasty. i know this comment is two years old but I'm always looking to teach and learn. for the colors i also have been using montana, im gonna switch to 94 though since its easier for me to get my hands on. since it's an automotive clear coat you can just polish it in the future if it starts to lose its luster as well. to be fair though a lot of people just prefer the feel of matte finishes, although satin typically works best for me. either way I'd highly recommend switching to 2k compound automotive clear coats for the top coat though, it'll last lifetimes especially since it's not getting direct sunlight.

  • @iannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

    Great video to show people this isnt that hard and to be confident in their work. One thing that I didn't hear mentioned and is important to a great clear coat finish is that after the final coat of color has dried you should wait at least 24-48 hours if not longer to allow the paint the cure fully. If you can still smell that 'paint smell' it has not cured.
    If you don't have a second mouse to use in the mean time try to wait as long as possible before spraying the clear coat as the paint fumes that are released while curing can cause strange effects in the clear coat such as rippling or potentiall cracking. Not the end of the world but it would be a shame to have a defect after all of this hard work.

    • @calonyoutube
      @calonyoutube  Před 3 lety

      Interesting. I got told that you should apply the coating as long as the paint is still partially wet, to make it stick to it better. Will look into it again! thank you for the tip!

    • @iannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
      @iannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Před 3 lety

      @@calonyoutube This very well could be one of those things that someone has just done the same way forever and it always works. I am not a professional painter, but I have been told to let the final coat of paint always dry first until it no longer smells like paint which means all of the solids or VOCs(Volatile organic compounds) have dried and evaporated (The paint smell) and then clear coat it. I am sure it would work just as well the way that you did it. But it would be interesting to see if there actually is a difference.
      I think with a mouse the difference would be so small/minor that if we noticed a problem we can do an easy touch up but for a Car or something more expensive, I am sure professionals have clear guidelines.
      Whatever works best for you I say do that :)

      you arent just spray painting, but also sanding the plastic down so it will probably be around the same weight or even lighter if you sand a lot (which you can do on a mouse like g102 or gpro since the shell is rly thick) due to a lot of plastic being removed. it will also depend on how many coats you are doing. sorry for late reply.

      no its fine :) you just apply the finish at the end. it is like a separate "color". if your mouse is currently glossy you should be able to just finish it. you would probably still need to use primer and sand it down a bit. just skip all the color layers
